  Adoption Requirements:
MBR puts a lot of love, time, effort and money into its dogs. Our ONLY concern is what is in the best interest of the dog and our ONLY goal is to match the right dog with the right home. Adoptions are decided by compatibility estimates, not on a first-come, first-served basis. MBR recognizes that each dog and each adoptive home is unique. If you feel that there is a plausible or necessary reason to deviate from the requirements listed below, please specify why on your application.
  • Knowledge of the bloodhound breed
  • Financial resources to properly care for a bloodhound. See Costs of Dog Ownership
  • Clean water and nutritious food, minimum of twice daily
  • Indoor homes only - dogs will not be placed to live strictly outdoors
  • Substantial above-ground fenced enclosure
  • Substantial daily exercise and human interaction
  • Regular veterinary care, monthly heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention
  • Other dogs in home MUST also be spayed/neutered unless actively competing
  • Adherence to terms of Adoption Agreement
Adoption Process:
  • Complete an Adoption Application
  • Email or mail the Application as directed
  • MBR will notify you when your application is approved or denied
  • If you are approved, MBR will discuss potential matches for your family. We do NOT discuss individual dogs prior to this point. Also, you do not "pick" your dog. MBR does. Appropriate foster home info will be provided for the selected dog.
  • Schedule a time convenient to the foster home to meet your new dog. Please
  • note that ALL transportation is the responsibility of the adoptive home.
  • When you meet your new dog, you will be required to complete an Adoption Agreement
  • What to bring: appropriate Adoption Donation (cash or money order), leash and collar
Adoption Donation:
Adoption Donations cover the cost of medical needs, transportation, housing and processing of a dog in rescue. Where does your donation go? Click here to find out! MBR gladly accepts cash or money orders for payment of the Adoption Donation. Payment by Paypal will also be accepted if completed in advance of adoption. A 5% handling fee will be added to the Adoption Donation. The amount of the donation is determined by the age of the dog when it is received by MBR, not the date of adoption. Effective January 16, 2006, MBR's required donations are as follows:

2010 FALL SPECIAL: ALL MBR DOGS - $150
Puppies 6 months and under - $300 + $150 spay/neuter deposit (if applicable)
Puppies 7 months to 2 years - $250
Dogs 3 years to 6 years - $200
Senior Dogs 7 years and older - $100

Police/Fire Departments and Correctional Facilities:
MBR's dogs are evaluated physically and behaviorally for their suitability to mantrailing. All facilities involved with the dog's care and training must be approved prior to adoption. No discounts are given. Please use our Corporate Application when applying.
