Abbey

Abbey was adopted by the Skifano family of Illinois in March 2003. She was turned over to one of our foster homes by a family who had kept her in a rabbit hutch in their backyard. After getting cleaned up and medically treated, she was able to enjoy life indoors. Now, at her forever home, she will enjoy the company of her new Golden/Collie mix sister.
Abigail n/k/a Suzy
Abigail was adopted by the Morg family of Illinois in September 2005. She will be the spoiled only doggie in her new home but will have to share a little bit of the attention with her new kitty cousin. She also has 2 new grandkids to play with on occasion!

Update: I just wanted to give you an update on Abigail, now known as Suzy.  She is the best! She has made herself at home on our couches and my lap.  I think somebody forget to tell her how big she is!  Jim had wanted a Bloodhound for a long time.  I tell him all the time that he made a wise choice. Suzy is so gentle with the grandkids, especially with the 17 month old!  There really isn't a problem with the toys either. She is learning that they toys are for the boys.  I know that the previous family had fears with the 2 small kids and their toys but she is OK here. She drops things that she shouldn't have. My slippers are a different story. She also has her own toys.  She loves her backyard and nightly walks too. I also enjoy looking at all the other dogs you have for adoption and telling Suzy what has happened with her brothers and sisters. Thank you again for taking care of our Suzy until we were able to adopt her.  She continues to bring us joy and laughter.  Can't wait to come from work everyday and give her hugs and kisses.

Addison
addison
addison
addison
addison

Addison was adopted by the Butts family of Pennsylvania in April 2007. Her new 2-legged siblings are all grown up but she will have fun playing with her new English Setter sister, Emily. Max, an older beagle, may not be quite as happy about Addison’s arrival on the scene but she will help keep Emily busy!

Update 6/07: She now weighs 65 lbs...and has taken her rightful place in our bed right next to our beagle Max...who she thinks loves her as much as she loves him...WRONG :)  Emily still insists on sleeping in her bed in our room. Her stomach is fine now, but she did have a bacterial infection...the antibiotics and a spoonful of yogurt every morning put her on the straight and narrow.  She is eating Fromms Gold along with Emily and Max our English Setter and Beagle.  Of course she eats everything that isn't nailed down...typical bloodhound. "Potty training" has been a challenge since she had that long bout with diarrhea but I think we have about licked it.  She is out on the "long" walk for the first time with her sister Emily and her daddy and big brother David.  She has been on the 1 mile walk for the past month but tonight since it is cooler she is going for the long 4 mile walk. Our dear sweet Max was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease and is having a very difficult time with his new medication.  (I finally get Addison to stop pooping in the house and now poor Max can't help but do the same thing)  We have to take him back in a month to check on his level's and hopefully adjust the dose. But all is well and we just love our newest addition.  She sits so nicely waiting for her treat every morning but is still having a hard time on her leash.  She all but knocks our (7 month pregnant) daughter Kate over every morning when she gets here for work. She is MY dog...but I must admit she loves our Max the most!

Update 7/07: Can't say we didn't know better about the bloodhound side of getting into trouble...but I think we got the naughty side of both breeds :) Nothing is sacred...one good thing though, she doesn't seem to have an interest in eating shoes! She has eaten the entire corner of our upstairs hall wall along with the top step and three window sills. She has pulled up every single flower in the backyard and finished the job our Emily started on our coffee table. It is now out in the garage ready for the next trip to the dump! But I still adore the little...BIG monster :) The photos are of her destroying toilet paper...she opened the 12 pack and ate two rolls while we were out. She loves the pool but just goes nuts in the creek chasing the fish and trying to get us as wet as possible. She and Emily are joined at the hip and she sleeps all curled up next to Max on our bed every night. She goes in tomorrow morning to be spayed. George is taking her because I cry when they have to get shots so I know I won't be able to endure the IV being put in her little leg. I think she weighs about 75 lbs. now. She is doing wonderfully on her lead now. She sits and waits patiently for her treat but we still can't keep her from attacking Max with kisses when someone walks in the house...she doesn't jump on the people...just Max!

Update 9/07: Sandy, I would love to be able to contact Addison's sibling's parents.  We have so many questions about our "monster".  She has been showing some very disturbing signs of aggression towards other dogs and even our Emily.  She is going to "doggie school" right now (She will graduate this coming Tuesday) and has even growled at an 8 month old female Mastiff.   Pocono Kennel Club runs an excellent program.  As you know, we have always had hounds, either beagles or our beloved bloodhounds, so we are very surprised by some of her behavior. She is without a doubt a love bug and has learned to follow directions while on her lead...a little less cooperative when on her own.  She has mastered heel, casual walk, sit/stay and will actually walk next to me in the house with her lead draped over my shoulder.  She sits on command and will even give you her paw if you extend your hand.  She is a real "mudder" and like our previous bloodhounds, loves to dig.  We still can't figure out her behavior towards our old beagle, Max.  She just adores him and whenever he gets out of his bed or if someone comes in the house she just overwhelms him with crying and kisses.  She has about 50 lbs on him ( she now weighs 82 lbs.) and all but turns him on his back to love on him...we have actually had to resort to a squirt bottle to get her off him. She is still eating everything in sight and we did just buy a 4' by 2 1/2" crate for her when we go out of the house.  She demolished our coffee table...but in her defense...Emily, our 2 year old English Setter started in on it when she was a pup...Addison just finished it off for her.  She has eaten the drywall in the kitchen, ripped the wall paper off in the newly renovated bathroom and her teeth marks are on every single one of our steps. Thank goodness she doesn't eat shoes!!!  She has actually pushed George out of our bed and sleeps with her head on HIS pillow.  He was really on his way out because of his terrible snoring Addison.  She sleeps so nicely with Max and my cat Girlie...as a matter of fact Girlie even slept with her head on her neck the other night! We do love her but as bloodhound people she has taken a lot of getting use to...I think personality wise she is mostly Lab...looks wise she is certainly a bloodhound, with the exception of her eyes and coloring.  I will be perfectly honest with you...she has caused some serious arguments between George and I...he has had a very difficult time with her behavior, while the mommy in me understands that she is just a puppy and will outgrow this stage...hopefully!  George has come around since he has had to take her to school for me the last two weeks. (health problems with me) Both Kate and David, our grown kids, adore her.  Emily plays nicely with her until she drags Emily around by her collar.  We take them out to a local baseball field for Emmie to run and Addisin shows her true bloodhound traits and just drops her head and sniffs along with Max. The older she gets the more I'm sure George will enjoy her.  Me...I already ADORE her...flaws and all! Do give our email address to whoever wants to chat! Just ordered some more Salmon Oil...they look great!  Thanks

Update 1/09: It's difficult to bellieve that the Blabs are turing two!  2009 finds our Addison in very good health weighing in at 108 lbs. She is tall and lean and knows that she is a gorgeous young lady. She still doesn't care for other dogs very much with the exception of her "sister" Emily. We lost our beloved Max to lung cancer on Novemer 21st and dear sweet Addie ( who loved him dearly) refused to eat and we had a difficult time keeping her off his grave out back. For weeks she would lay on his pllow with his favorite stuffy...it was heartbreaking. She and Emily are the best of friends without any signs of fighting any more. Emily has become a little food aggressive towards Addison but Addie just walks away. There is no more jumping but she still continues to "paw" you with her nails when you're not paying enough attention to her. With winter upon us she has taken to walking around on the frozen pool and holding cout atop the picnic table again. Last year it didn't concern us since she was still a "lite weight" but now I worry about the table giving way under her weight. But it is quite a site seeing her on her throne keeping an eye on her domaine. Only down side of this sweet monster is the fact that she hates the vet and has become very protective of the family...difficult to trust her around "strangers". We actually have to sedate her and put a muzzle on her when she goes to the vet. A friend of ours works with dogs with emotional issues and she is coming over tothe house next week to do a reading on our Emily to see why she won't sleep the night and is going to work with Addie on aggressive behavior.

Adele

Adele and McDreamy were adopted together by the Faus family of Illinois in April 2007. These two beautiful four-legged girls will enjoy playing with their beautiful new two-legged girls!

Alex
alex
alex

Alex was adopted by the Roberts family of Illinois in August 2003. This beautiful little bloodhound/lab puppy will enjoy being spoiled by his new family but will be kept in line by his new older sister, a german shepherd.

Update 2/04: Alex is doing fine. He's huge now and gets along well with the other dogs. Alex is healthy, spoiled and playful. He's a good boy.

Alex II
alex II
alex II

Alex II was adopted by the Johnson family of Wisconsin in June 2004. This handsome Basset boy will enjoy playing and lounging at his new home with his new "folks" and his new English Bulldog "brother".

Alex III n/k/a Murphy
alex III
alexIII

Alex III n/k/a Murphy was adopted by the McManis family of Ohio in March 2007. The first of the Blabs to go home, this lucky boy will have a new bloodhound brother that is only 4 weeks older than he is. One down, 16 siblings to go!

Update: Just a note to let you know that "Murphy" is settling in well with his new big brother Doolin. He made the trip just fine from Chicago . He's definitely not timid or shy -- in fact, he's much more of the instigator than Doolin who is just  a bit bigger (and 4 weeks older).

Update 1/08: Greetings from Cincinnati! We are the proud (and tired) parents of Murphy (formerly known as 'Alex'). Thank God he's one year old! (Please tell me he'll start to mellow soon!) Murph and his "brother" Doolin (a 13-month-old B&T purebred bloodhound) were both impulse decisions for us -- my husband and I lost our two beloved bloodhounds (13  and 6) within ten days of each other back in February (the 6-year-old female just 'gave up' ten days after her 13-year-old companion died from cancer). After a week of total insanity and mourning, I went out and got Doolin (the purebred) from a breeder (I know, I know...what can I say? I was desperate to replace my hounds) and got Murphy a month later from Sandi. Let's just say it has been a very trying ten months! Murph is by far the smartest dog we've had (we've owned or fostered five bloodhounds/ bloodhound mixes in the last 11 years.) He's extremely food-motivated which makes it easy to teach him things. He knows sit, down, stay, leave it, yoga (downward dog pose), low crawl and 'easy'...we're working on "off" but he loves to be up on things (picnic table, couch, etc.) He's definitely a dominant personality and pushes Doolin around. We're still working on convincing him he is not the pack leader :o) although some days I just give up out of frustration! He and Doolin together managed to chew threw the drywall in our kitchen, dig numerous holes in the backyard, completely consume a Japanese Maple tree (!) as well as numerous other towels, paper towel rolls, Kleenex boxes, etc. Murph loves tissues, paper towels and napkins and will shred them in seconds. He has so much energy - I am a runner and have tried taking him on short jogs with me, but he only has two speeds: walk or SPRINT!!! And at 90 pounds, the little muscle-head can drag me down the street! I take him to the neighborhood tennis courts (fenced -in) where we play fetch with the tennis ball for what seems like hours and he never tires...I'm thinking about getting a treadmill just like on the Dog Whisperer.... :o) He's had great health except for mild optical dysplasia (dysplastic spots on his eyes which a specialist assured me is non-progressive and should cause him no problems). Has anyone else had their vet notice any optical dysplasia? It tends to be hereditary so I thought I'd ask. Did anyone save the photos of Malina with all 17 pups? When I tell people Murphy was from a litter of 17, no one believes me! I'd love to have those photos of the crew as newborns. We really enjoy the news and photos of Murph's sibs. Keep 'em coming! Do you think a reunion is in our future? Is anyone 'handy' with My Space? Maybe we could start a page just for Malina and the brood!

Allie

Allie was adopted by the Wells family of Missouri in July 2002. This sweet, loving girl will enjoy playing with her new Pug sibling. Allie was previously owned by a breeder and whelped several litters. She will now get to live a life of ease lying on her new twin bed with purple sheets!

UPDATED 12-03 Allie is doing great. She has finally adjusted - was scared of everything at first. She is still a little timid of new people. Allie is just beautiful and likes to play with her toys. Her favorite trick is to take the toilet paper rolls off the bathroom roll.

Amos

Amos was adopted by the Osuzik family of Michigan in July 2001. He will have playing with his new 4-legged brother & sister, both chocolate labs. He will also have a kitty cousin and 2 horses to check out

Amy

Amy was adopted by the Hodson family of Indiana in June 2009.

Update 6/09: Amy is doing just great, what a wonderful addition to our family!  Trevor dotes on her, and she and Hemi are making fast friends!  We have had one or two "power struggles" between the dogs, but nothing major.  They play together, and even snuggle occasionally.  I don't think we are ready to take on another dog right now, but perhaps in the future.  Thank you for keeping us in mind!  I've attached a few more pics of Amy...enjoy!

Update 7/09: Amy is doing just great, what a wonderful addition to our family!
Amy n/k/a Gerti

Amy was adopted by the Polhemus family of Illinois in August 2002.

Update 9/03: Just adopted a bloodhound puppy sister named Cookie from MBR!

Angel
angel
angel
angel

Angel was adopted by the Ross family of Illinois in September 2004.

Update: Hello, Update on Angel. She is really enjoying all the attention from the kids, us and our other dog. The kids have had fun with her, that is for sure. Angel even dressed up for Halloween, complete with Trick or Treat bag, well Doggie bag to be exact. She still wants to go in the house from time to time. So if you have any advice that would help, please let me know. I take her out every few hours or so, usually 2-3 hours apart. We feed her about the same time everyday. This morning I walked in to my son’s bedroom to see this picture perfect opportunity. As you can see, she is rather comfortable here.

Angel II n/k/a Angie

Angel was adopted by the Mulhollan family of Pennsylvania in October 2009.

Update 11/09: Just wanted to update you on Angie. We have started her going to a obedience class. She actually is doing pretty good. She is the biggest puppy the class. There are 5 other dogs 8 mos to 14 mos and  if I must say so myself she is in the top of her class. She did better than I expected. She seems to learn fast. She is also doing better with house training. We took her for her first visit to Dr. Frankel our vet, and he gave her a clean bill of health. We are going to put her on Interceptor as the heart worm prevention. I can't tell you how happy we are with her. She really likes her toys. Her favorite is a squirrel that she carries like a prized possession. As soon as the weather clears we will send some pictures of her outside. It has been raining the last 2 weekends. Hope all is well.

Angelina

Angelina was adopted by the Doty family of Illinois in June 2004. Mrs. Doty has been involved with Friends of Strays for many years and always thought a bloodhound would come through their rescue. Luckily for Angelina, one never did. Angelina will enjoy playing with the family's four other main dogs and foster dogs.

Annie

Annie was adopted by the Hovey family of Michigan in April 2003.

Annie II

Annie II was adopted by the Young family of Iowa in Aprl 2003. She joins two big 2-legged brothers and three 4-legged pals to help keep this active girl busy. Annie II was proof of just how important socialization is for younger pups. Her original owners did well by her but did not socialize her enough. MBR's foster family spent quite awhile working with this shy girl to acquaint her to new situations and people in an unthreatening manner. The results were wonderful and Annie II should continue to thrive under the love and guidance of her new family.

Update 10/03: Annie is doing great. She still doesn't care for the other dogs but does play with them sometimes. She is very vocal and loves my son. They all enjoy her.

Annie III

Annie was adopted by the Wilson family of Illinois in March 2005. She will have lots of fun playing with her new bloodhound sister, Belle (previously from MBR), and taking trips to the local dog park!

Annie IV

Annie IV was adopted by the Hingham family of Massachusetts in July 2006.

Apple n/k/a Abby

Apple was adopted by the Sikorski/Nelson family of Illinois in April 2002. She will be the pampered only dog of the home and is already settling in nicely.

Update 9/03: Apple n/k/a Abby is doing very well and in good health. She has some allergies, though. Her family loves her like an only child and enjoy spoiling her.

Update: I took your advice for Christmas presents for Abby. She loved her treats and she got a new bed. She likes the new bed but still likes sleeping with mom & dad more. I'm not complaining. She does a great job at keeping us warm. Here is one picture we have of her. As you can see, she loves her dad and dad loves her.

Babe & Billie Blue n/k/a Sandy
babe
babe
babe

Babe and Billie Blue n/k/a Sandy were adopted by the Fausher family of Illinois in September 2007. This family has had many bloodhounds in the past and lost both of their bloodhounds within the past year. The house just wasn't the same, and they didn't want their new bloodhound to be lonely, so both girls went together. They will have lots of fun playing with their new 2-legged sister when she gets a bit bigger.

Update 9/07: Just wanted to share pics of Babe and Billie. They are adjusting, and are getting used to their new home. Babe spends a lot of time in the yard announcing her presence to the neighbors, and Billie follows along. Billie didn't sleep with us the first two nights, but has since joined us on the bed and curls up with us each night now. The only thing we are working out is the breakout fights the two get into...when there's food around, Billie goes after Babe pretty viciously and we have to break them up. I'm sure it's because of her background, and hopefully she will become a bit more relaxed when there's food around. We feed them in separate areas, but when we are eating, Billie doesn't want Babe near her and the food, so she goes after her. We may have to gate them when we eat in order to keep the peace. We'll keep you posted on the progress!

Update 10/07: The girls, now Babe and Sandy (not that either really listens to their name anyways!) are doing well. They still play constantly, and are pretty funny to watch. Sandy still isn't housebroken, and the main reason for this is that she hates to be outside without us. We let her out right after she gets up, and she will turn and sit in front of the door and refuse to move. If we go out with her, she still stands by the door. We walk around the yard, and she still sits by the door. It's as if she's afraid she's never going to be let in again, and it's every time we let her out. So, Lou has started leashing her at 6am and walking her down the block until she goes. We set up our old giant crate, and will probably crate her if we go out and she's not housebroken yet. She's gone in and laid down in it so she's getting comfortable with it. The fights have subsided. There are still a couple, and it's mainly when both have their jaws firmly clamped on the same toy. It's a serious showdown and they will hold it and not move for over a minute. It's kind of funny. If Babe doesn't give in, Sandy goes after her. Yesterday Sandy went after Babe when I was feeding Natalie, and I saw it coming so I held Sandy and just told her no right when she tried to lunge at her. She listens right away, and she hasn't inflicted any pain on Babe lately – the viciousness has gone away and it's more like a warning of, hey, back off. Yesterday we found out Babe wants to kill our lawn mower. Lou was out cutting the grass and had to bring her in because she was barking and started to attack the wheel. She's actually a great watchdog (our neighbors are actually afraid to come over now, which is kind of nice in a way!) but we know she's a sweetie. Our vet summed it up nicely when he said she just has to have the last word…when he checked her out the whole time she was growling a little and when he was done, she grabbed his arm and just held it in her mouth to let him know she didn't like it. She does the same when we clean her ears or dip them in water so they don't get crusty. I think we'll get them both groomed soon, now that things have calmed down. We picked up more dog food from the place not far from our house that sells the same brand, and the owner actually has 3 bloodhounds, and they do grooming there. She told Lou she used to see us walking Dixie and Sophie at the woods all the time and wondered who we were. So, we'll probably bring them back to her for grooming, since she knows hounds. Sandy could use it. She rolls in dirt all the time. It's been hot here lately, and when they're in the yard I think she just does it to stay cool. Thankfully cool weather will come in this week. They enjoy going for walks and get excited when they hear the leashes now, instead of being afraid. We actually have slack on the leashes when we walk them – unheard of with Dixie and Sophie, who injured Lou's shoulder on about 50 different occasions.

Update 3/08: Attached are some pics of Babe and Sandy (formerly Billie). They have settled in nicely. We still have the occasional breakout fight - the last one was over a box of crayons! But, they're doing well, and happy.

Baby Huey (6/02)

Baby Huey was adopted by the Cumberland family of Illinois. This poor boy was purchased from a breeder way too young (6-7 weeks) and then turned in to a shelter 2 days later. The shelter immediately neutered him, which turned out to be a good thing because then the breeder didn't want him back. So, MBR brought him in and his foster family got him strong, healthy and well-socialized in no time at all. His new family is absolutely in love with him!
Bambam (2/04)
bambam

Bambam was adopted by the Berhhold family of Illinois. This beautiful little boy (who will not be little for much longer!) will have four new 2-legged siblings with which to grow up and play. Bambam's little boy is SO excited!

Update: BamBam is doing good and 100% recovered. He is already 60 lbs. and still growing. They gone through obedience training and love to have Bambam around.

Barney n/k/a Baxter

Bandit n/k/a Baxter was adopted by the Roy/Miller family in Febuary 2009. This lovely beagle mix was found as a stray during some bitterly cold weather a few months ago. A good samaritan local to MBR took him in and asked for our assistance. Luckily, we were able to help the young boy recover and find a wonderful new forever family.

Update 12/09: At the moment we are unable to locate the paperwork as we just moved last weekend. I know that it is in a box somewhere! I wasn't sure if you needed to be updated on his current address? We also wanted to send you updated pictures of "Bandit" aka Baxter. So we were looking for your address to send some pictures to seeing that it has been almost a year since the adoption!! Baxter is doing very well and is very important to our family! Thank you!

Barney
barney

Barney went to his new home today, He was adopted by theValenti's of MO in August 2004. Although he will be an only spoiled dog, the Valenti's have a 17 year old cat for him to tease and grand children to play with.

Bauer
bauer
bauer

Bauer was adopted by the Bull/Ciotti family of Michigan in July 2005. Most of the time, Bauer will enjoy being the pampered only pet in the home. On weekends, she has to share some of the time with her new 2-legged siblings but that also means she has new playmates!

Update 5/09: Yes, Lillian and Bauer are happily romping around driving my husband crazy in the backyard!  He is planting tomatoes and herbs ... and they are helping to dig them back up! (picture of Bauer & family attached, but as you are well aware, the more "kids" the less pictures of the younger ones!  Lillian does have pictures, but just not downloaded.)

Baxter n/k/a Boomer
baxter
baxter

Boomer was adopted by the Wilson's of Michigan in April 2005.

Update: Just a note to let you know we are in love…. We have successfully integrated Baxter into our family (without much grumping from our female BH Tazzy). We thought we would keep his name as Baxter, but as the days have gone by, he has made is very clear to us he is a BOOMER, as he boom, boom, booms around the house and on everything therein… Ironically, he seems to respond to this name better than either Baron or Baxter. Also, we just wanted to let you, Daryl, and Tina know the 5 hour car ride home to Michigan wasn’t at all what we expected it to be – he was a perfect angel and slept almost the entire way! Boy, it’s a good thing we weren’t using the car ride to judge his personality! He’s anything but quiet! He’s bouncy, bodacious, and is all boy. Which we absolutely adore.

Beau

Beau was by the Rainey family of Indiana in April 2001. The Rainey's 18 yr. old lab had crossed the Rainbow Bridge the previous year and they decided it was time for another dog to join their family. Mr. Rainey had always wanted a bloodhound and it was a match made in heaven.

Update 9/03: Beau has grown up to be a 90 lb. boy who still likes to get into things! He is very playful and very happy.

Update 8/07: He's not much trouble. Still adventuresome and loves to go for walks. He likes to be in charge but he's really enjoyable.

Beauregard Burnside
beauregard
beauregard

Beauregard Burnside III was adopted by the White family of Illinois in April 2003. This spunky boy was dearly loved by his original family but they knew their home was not the right environment for such a big, active boy. They made the painful decision to do what was right for Beauregard and place him with a family more suited to his needs. The White's fit the bill perfectly. Beauregard will enjoy playing with his new bloodhound brother on 5 acres of fenced land and mature under the loving guidance of his new "parents".

Belle
belle

Belle has gone to her new home with the Padilla of Illinois in March 2003. They were very happy to add this beautiful girl to their large family of canines which now numbers four. Belle will be working along side her big brother Blue, a 120 pound bloodhound, doing search and rescue (after training of course).

Update: Belle likes attention, food and to play. She is very afraid of thunder and storms. Her health is excellent. She is currently in Joplin, Missouri with Mike Best at Best K9's working becoming a certified police tracking dog. When he was in town to recertify our other bloodhound, Blu ,he agreed Belle had great potential to become a working dog. He reports she is coming along quiet well and has the abilities needed to become a NAPWDA K9. We are very pleased with her and I believe she feels the same way !

Belle II
Belle II

Belle II was adopted by the Wilson family of Illinois in January 2004. She was owned by puppymillers who luckily got divorced and couldn't breed anymore. Belle II and her mate, Bud, along with Droop Dawg & Missy, were all turned in to MBR. True to the bloodhound's wonderful personality, all 4 of these dogs were very sweet and loving despite the harsh environment they came from. Belle II now gets to enjoy life the good way - a new Mom & Dad and 2 new dogs to play with.

Belle III
Belle III
belle III

Belle III & Elvis were adopted by the Sumrow family of Illinois in July 2007. They join 2 other lab buddies to help guide them on their new 5 acre yard.

Update: Just a quick note to let you know how the dogs are doing. Elvis has come along way. He's great with Bill, lets him hug on him, even plays out in the yard with him. The other dogs have accepted them...the cat however, has not !!! E & B are GREAT with the kids, even our 3 yr old granddaughter. They even get along with the horse !!!!! Though they all think that they are horse herders !!! No one's been kicked yet !!!

Update 9/08: We wanted to say hello and tell you how happy we are here at our home. I ( Belle ) am very happy and I like to show it by wagging my tail like a helicopter propeller !! I love resting in the sun on the driveway, and I really love barking at the deer in the neighbors yard. I don't know why the deer won't come visit us ? I love giving my mommy kisses, especially after she gives us cookies !! She's so nice to us. We play out side a lot, but can come in whenever Elvis knocks on the window for us !! Boy, Elvis has come a long way. He loves his daddy Bill so much. He talks to him when he gets home, you know, like howl/talk. It's so cute, don't tell him I said that ! He thinks he's stud dog !! Of course he loves his mommy too !! And we both love our siblings, Ginger and Buddy. They are a lot of fun to play with. We have a HUGE yard ( 5 acres, all fenced...tho Elvis still plays Houdini once in a while, but he always comes right back home ) so we run around a lot !! I sleep well at night because I'm so tired !! It's great here. Like doggy Heaven.

Ben
Ben I
ben I

Ben was adopted by the Hartman family of Illinois in April 2005. He will be the spoiled only puppy on the farm but will have to share some of the attention with his new kitty & horsey cousins. He will also have some 2-legged grandsiblings to play with on occasion.

Update: I just wanted to let you know that Ben and I are doing splendidly.  I'll send pictures soon...Ben and I will be attending obedience school beginning Thursday of this week.  He doesn't really need training, but I have a hunch he knows a whole lot more than me and I want to know how to ask him. Perry, who admittedly was concerned about having a dog Ben's size in the house, is frequently amazed by how well behaved Ben is.  We are both convinced Ben's long lost previous owner must be missing him very much.  Perry typically beats me home from work and takes Ben for 1-2 of his many walks.  I told my oldest daughter that when she returns from Germany, her ole mother will be buff.  In addition to several shorter walks each day, Ben and I go exploring for about one hour each early evening.  We're getting a lot of exercise and fresh air! I think Ben's only potential complaint about his new home is that while we are at work we keep in in the barn and attached kennel.  He has LOTS of room to run, to get fresh air, and to chase my barn cats & admire the horses.  I really don't think he minds, but his sad face earns him extra treats.  (...come to think of it, when doesn't a wrinkly bloodhound have a sad face?) Ben's two favorite spots to rest his bones after long walks, is the window seat, with cushions of course.  When he doesn't want a "view" he has a big dog bed that's right in front of the TV.  I plan to train him to watch PBR bull riding with me on Sunday nights, but I'll bet he has a hard time keeping from snoozing, just like I do. Ben gets lots of doggy visitors here, and we visit other dogs too.  (Ben loves truck rides.)  I'm beginning to think, however, that Ben is beginning to recognize some of the many benefits of being an only child.  Time will tell. I do have one question, while I have you captive.  How do I go about notifying whoever is necessary, that Ben's microchip is tied to our address?  There's NO WAY we'd give him up, and I think this is the last official action we need to take.  Please advise...Thanks again for helping Ben, and for helping us to find Ben.  We are a "forever" family!

Betsy n/k/a Maybelle

Betsy was adopted by the Moran family of Indiana.

Update 7/09:
I will be sending pictures soon but I wanted to let you know how well Maybelle aka “Betsy” is doing in our home.  She is a pure delight and really loves romping with our two other dogs.  She copies everything the Catahoula does.  It is really funny to watch.  The beagle barks in her ear and she howls back.  Quite a chorus!  Luckily, our neighbors all are dog people. I thank you again for bringing her into our lives.

Update 12/09: I cannot tell you how much we have enjoyed having Maybelle. She is so goofy and funny and big. When she stretches out across the bed, she nearly touches both sides. I am amazed every day at how much she LOVES food! I have had dogs my entire life but she takes the "food hound" crown.

Beverly n/k/a Baby Girl
beverly
beverly

Beverly n/k/a Baby Girl has a new family in Michigan in June 2004. She was adopted by the Barley's and will be living the life of luxury as a inside dog. This should be especially comforting to her since she spent last winter chained in the cold with no shelter. I guess one bloodhound in the family just isn’t enough since the Barley's already have a hound for Baby to play with.

Big Foot n/k/a Duke

Big Foot n/k/a Duke was adopted by the LaFleur/Olsen family of Wisconsin in November 2005.
Big Jake

In December 2004, this lucky boy has the best forever home with other bloodhounds, other dog breeds, some 2-leggers to play with and a big couch to sleep on. Big Jake was adopted by his foster family ... the Deans ... from Ohio or as his foster Dad says "Jake has been adopted by a big fat guy from Ohio. They lived happily ever after."

Blue III

Blue was adopted by the Rabeor Family of Illinois in May 2003.

Update 6/04: Hi Sandi, Just a quick note to say Hi, and let you know how much we love our Blue. We just celebrated one year with him! Here is a recent photo. He has filled out, still acts like a big baby, is scared of his adopted sister at times which is good as he outweighs her by at least 40lbs. He is ready to hit the beach here in Chicago again this summer where he is always quite a hit. A father and daughter came up to us last summer and asked "is that a real Bloodhound? We've only seen them on TV!"

Update 2/08: Since last year Blue and I completed training at Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy which we saw at the Expo and stopped by during one of our walks around the show floor. We go to Miseracordia just about every weekend to visit the residents, get petted, show how we can find a treat under one of three cups and other fun stuff. Hope all is well.

Update 9/09: My adopted Bloodhound Blue is seven today. I adopted him six and ½ years ago from you and just wanted to say what a great dog he had turned out to be. He is in his second year of animal assisted therapy with Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy in the Chicago area where we volunteer nearly every weekend at homes for handicapped teenagers and adults. Blue is very popular with the residents, they love to see him give “high fives”, and sniff out the treats they hide under the cups. Last year Blue was chosen for a small part in a Discovery Channel TV show on Animal Planet called “Animal Witness”, where he did what comes natural, sniff out a missing person. I look forward to many more adventures with this big loveable hound…

Update 1/10: Blue has started to have seizures one a month for the last three.  Our vet wants to put him on Phenobarbital, but with the side effects I would like to ask if you know of any other treatments?  I have heard going to a grain free diet may help? He is seven and four months now, so he is getting up there…

Blue V
blue

Blue was adopted by the Charlton family of Missouri in February 2004.

Blue VI
blue

Blue was adopted by the Durfey family of Indiana in February 2004. We ran a few quick trails when they met and Blue VI was did wonderfully! In his off-hours, Blue VI will enjoy playing with his new 2-legged siblings and the family's other 4-legged critters.

Blue VII

Blue was adopted by the Kenny family of Illinois in August 2004. Blue is truly a unique dog - both in appearance and personality. She will enjoy playing with her new 4-legged sister and have two 2-legged siblings too!

Update: Just a little update on Blue. We have finally decided on a permanent name for her. We decided to name her "Stella Blue". We still call her Blue for short. She is such a great girl. She loves the kids so much. She runs with them in the back yard and just has the best time. Her favorite game is tug of war with an old rope. Our son Jack sleeps with her everynight and Blue waits patiently by the front door to greet him after school. Today she ran to the bus to greet him with a big wet kiss. The kids on the bus loved her. Her four-legged sister Madison insists on licking her face at least twice a day to clean her up. She has been playing Blue's Mommy ever since we brought her home. Thank you to Stephanie, Patti and you. We love her so much. She is our Angel with a tail and we adore her.

Blue VIII

Blue has been adopted by the Pass family of Indiana in February 2005. This spunky, unique-looking bloodhound will enjoy playing with her three new 2-legged brothers and two 4-legged brothers. Her new Mom, previously being the only girl in the house, insisted that their new pet be a female. We see a future of a lot of pink and purple in Blue's wardrobe!!

Bo

Bo was adopted by the Legg family of California in December 2002. This beautiful big boy got to travel in almost-luxury from his foster home in Missouri to his new home in California just in time for Christmas! Bo should have a lot of fun playing with his new Coonhound brother in his new backyard!

Bo II

Bo II was adopted by the Mr. Palmersheim of Iowa in January 2004. This unique boy will have his new dad's attention all to himself as they explore the outdoors.

Bobby Lee

Bobby Lee has moved north of the border to Canada to live with the Bull family in September 2004. He’s already worked his way into the hearts of the Bulls and apparently everyone in the neighborhood. When they take him for a walk they have to stop on the corner so the guys at the gas station can feed him his daily ration of cookies. His new dad hopes to take him for Search and Rescue training soon.

Update: Hello Sandi, I hope all is well with you. Bobby-Lee is doing very well. I love him greatly.  His playful personality is really coming out in leaps and bounds and he has grown very protective of his new family. Bull Family, proudly owned and loved by Bobby-Lee

Update 10/07: Reporting in on the latest happenings of Bobby Lee! He now lives in Calgary with his family. He has settled in quite well in his new home in this new city. He loves going for walks in the foothills as well as in the mountains of Kananskis country. Please say hello to his foster dad and, guys, please keep up the good work!

Bodine n/k/a Travis

Travis was adopted by the Kreklau family of Illinois in June 2007. He joins big brother, Toby (f/k/a Bugsy, an MBR bloodhound), and a basset brother and sister. Bodine’s new name will be Travis – him and Toby will be the T’n’T boys…..because they are DynoMITE!

Due to the tragic death of Jimmy Kreklau, Joanie was forced to do what was in the best interest of Travis - rehome him. Travis is a sweet, loving dog that is also huge & very powerful. She just could not handle him appropriately.

Travis was adopted by the Enright family of Colorado in February 2010. He has a new bloodhound sister.

Update 2/10: Travis is home as you can see from the picture all went well on the ride home Dan brought him at Dr Brooks today while I was at work to say HI and they had a ride thro the bank drive thro for cookies BIG FUN those Cookies I sented Hope an email too  Thanks to both of you  tell the gang hi for me Petra

Booford

Booford was adopted by the Wilder/Szews family of Illinois in February 2008. His new mom is an avid hiker & camper so Booford will get to go on all sorts of adventures! His new 4-legged sibling, a Min Pin-Chihuahua mix, doesn't like to go much of anywhere so Booford will get lots of rides. He'll have fun spudding on the couch with his new Dad playing Xbox (at least until Booford gets a better score!).

Update 2/08: Booford is doing well here at his new home. He's pacing and worried and whining a bit, but I figure that's probably normal. After all, he's been at your house for an eternity in dog time and now that's all uprooted. But he's also wagging his tail (sometimes because he's nervous, sometimes because he seems genuinely happy) and giving licks and being very curious about everything. He and my old man chihuahua aren't seeing eye to eye yet, because Booford got right up into Spike's face and basically shouted in dog language, "I'M BOOFORD WANT TO BE FRIENDS???" and Spike was having none of this huge head in his face and got snarly. Which meant Booford got grumbly a bit. But now Spike is in his bedroom and Booford won't go through the door (he just stands outside and whines and wags his tail - so pitiful! I want to tell Spike to get on out there and be his friend, darn it!), so there's some respect going on. But what's funny is that Spike and Booford at one time were lying down within two feet of each other on the guest room bed, so Spike is definitely interested and non-hateful. He's just afraid of a huge hound dog face all up in his business. Go figure. Also, the harness thing? Best idea EVER. So thank you. It's like you know what you're talking about or something **smiles** I took Booford out on a "walk". That's in quotes because it turned into a take-Susan-on-a-drag kind of thing. It was pretty cool, except for when we both busted our butts on the ice. I've been complaining about gaining 30 pounds over the past two years - guess Booford will be getting me to lose that by going on walks/runs/drags twice a day, huh? I did have to throw myself into a snowbank in order to use my body weight to stop his momentum. He saw a dog halfway down the block and across the street and was trying everything in his power to go and be friends with that dog. That was funny, especially when two cars stopped to ask me if I was alright, while I was trying to wrangle a baying and barking bloodhound and get out of the snowbank all at the same time. After I explained that it was my first day with a new rescue dog, and I was just fine and he was about the friendliest dog in the whole world, they laughed and wished me luck. Know what else you're right about? Bloodhounds and their sense of smell. He knew exactly where one of our cats was standing on the dryer in order to leap into the basement ceiling. He found all five of our cats just by smell. Not that he cared - but they did. They're all making noises about it, but they're actually very calm. He also knew exactly which house was now his after our walk. Anyways, I pretty much think that it's going to be an interesting few days while he gets used to the house and we get used to having a dog that can walk. Spike will come around and stop being so worried. Booford will learn to not get all up in Spike's face. Booford has a few big dog pillows and a water bowl all his own. We're going to see if he wants to eat a little bit later, but chances are he won't. He hasn't wanted either some dog kibble or a treat at all yet. I think he's still nervous. He also marked the house a little bit, but that's no suprise, because Spike was unneutered for 11 of his years, and has marked pretty much everything. I've cleaned it all up over the years, but duh, bloodhounds can smell stuff. But then he stopped after the third time and hasn't done it anymore. I think that will be the end of that. Thanks so much for giving us a chance and approving our application!!! Booford is pretty awesome, and I think he and I are going to have a great time running and camping. I can't wait for spring when we can tie him up on the front porch while we sit there with him and watch the world go by. It's one of the benefits of living so close to Chicago - lots of interesting foot traffic.

Update 2/09: It's been almost a year since we've brought Booford home, so we just wanted to send you an e-mail and tell you that he's doing wonderfully. He's super-charismatic and a big snuggler. Since it started getting colder in the fall, he's enjoyed being covered up with some blankets to make him extra-cozy. He also loves his plush toys and enjoys chasing after them when we throw them. I've attached some pictures because he's very cute. He gets daily walks here in the big city, and they're the favorite part of his day. For the past few months, his walks have been filled with baying and barking. I think he smells the other dogs who have walked by and wants to meet them, so he calls out to them. Any advice you have on getting him to curb the barking while walking would be appreciated.  When he does meet another dog, he's so eager to say hello that he nearly pulls our arm off (barking and baying). He's just a little too eager. We know that he doesn't want to do anything but say hello and play, but the other dogs don't always see it that way. We hope that when the dog parks open in the spring, we can take him to meet some new friends. We hope that will calm him down a little. For a six-year-old bloodhound, he sure acts like a big eager puppy. So, in summary, Booford is doing great and has a good life here in Evanston. We love him to death, drool and all.

Boomer

Boomer was adopted by the Haack family of Illinois in May 2006. He joins big sister, Maggie, another bloodhound previously adopted from MBR. Maggie will have her work cut out for her in training this big, energetic boy but his family thinks she can keep him in line. In between "lessons", he'll enjoy being spoiled by his new parents!

Boone

Boone was adopted by the Reyes family of Wisconsin in August 2007. This lucky boy was found living in a cave and then had to endure a week at an awful shelter. He came to MBR terribly skinny but very happy. He will be even happier now with his new Mom & Dad, four 2-legged siblings and bloodhoud-mix 4-legged brother.

Update 5/09: MBR received a phone call from the Reyes family that they needed to return Boone. We asked them to mail us information, which they did not do. All of their contact info had changed. Luckily, Penny Romasko in Wisconsin saw an ad the placed on Craigslist. She is an experienced rescue person and Boone's plight touched her. She picked up Boone, who was tied outside on a chain (against our contract) & brought him home. He was woefully underweight. While MBR is very disgusted with the Reyes family's behavior, we thank Penny for stepping in & caring for this special boy.

Bosco

Bosco was adopted by the VerKuilden family of Illinois in August 2005. This beautiful, spunky boy will enjoy ALL of the attention from his new mom!!

Briar

Briar has been adopted by Wood/Donahue family of Indiana in November 2003. Since his new "mom" is a veterinary student at Perdue, Briar got a special guided tour of the Veterinary School when he arrived in West Lafayette. Briar loved the tour but had to wait in the hallway with his new dad while his foster dad and sister toured the anatomy lab (too many bones). Briar who instantly bonded with his new mom and dad has found the perfect home! Briar was last seen jumping onto the seat of his dad's truck wagging his tail and smelling everything he could get his nose near.

Update 4/04: Briar is great! He's the best dog ever. Briar is healthy, doesn't bark much at all and the perfect dog for their family.

Update 3/10: I am writing this to give an update on a Bloodhound that my wife and I adopted in November of 2003. I hope this is going to the right place. In November of 2003 my wife Hayley and I adopted a great blood hound Briar. Briar has been an excellent dog a good companion and a great friend. He went with us when we moved to southern Indiana and never missed a beat. He was not effective when we moved back home 2 years later. We had a daughter on Halloween 2008 and he has found a new friend in her they do everything together. He follows her around and they help keep each other out of trouble. Unfortunately Briar was diagnosed with cancer in his left lung and in his intestinal tract yesterday. Though you wouldn't know it he still met me at the door with his tail wagging ready to play when I arrived home from work. I was hoping that this message would make to Briars foster parents they did such a great job with him and seemed very interested in his wellbeing. Hopefully we will be able to come up with an effective treatment plan and keep him in good spirits throughout tuff time.

Bruno II

Bruno II was adopted by the Myles family of Illinois in October 2001, who previously adopted Abby from us. Bruno was hit by a car and left to die until some very special people stepped in and spent a long time helping this loving boy recover. He lost a leg because of it and was found to have hip dysplasia and a butt full of buckshot. Now, Bruno has his "forever" home that includes a bloodhound sister and several 2-legged and 4-legged buddies to play with and love. Mrs. Myles called us the other night just to say that anyone who passed Bruno by or didn't want to adopt him has no clue what they are missing out on. Apparently, everyone who comes to their home wants to take him home! And if you saw him running in the backyard with the dogs and kids, it's hard to tell he's "handicapped".

Bubba II

Bubba II was adopted by the Myers family of Illinois in September 2004.

Buddy II

Buddy was adopted by the Lenich/Shackelford family of Illinois in November 2002. This bouncy, but polite, boy joins big brother Sidney, a shepherd mix

Update 9-14-03: Buddy II is the best dog we've ever owned. He weighs 115 lbs., loves people, not crazy about other dogs but loves cats. He had a broken jaw but it is all better now. He is energetic and in good health.

Buddy III

Buddy has been adopted by the Wibben family of Illinois in December 2004. This spunky beagle will enjoy playing with his new "boy" and stealing food from his new grand-sibling.

Buffy

Buffy was adopted by the Fraser family of Massachusetts in July 2003. This adorable little puppy will be well-trained by her new big sister, a shepherd/rottie mix. Her new dad may be able to teach her a thing or two about SAR work too! When Buffy is done with all that, she gets to learn about love from her 3 new 2-legged siblings.

Buford

Ellie came from a shelter. Classic story, classic reasons for the dog being there. Buford is another story. Buford was bought as a pup from a sub-par breeder by people who had no clue how to properly raise or care for a bloodhound. The put him in an outside pen attached to a barn and left him there for 2 years. Then they decided they didn't have the time for him and didn't know how to deal with his behavioral issues. Buford was still intact, not current on his vaccinations and had not had his yearly heartworm test. We asked his family to take care of him medically first while we waited for room for him in foster care. They did and we brought Buford in. It quickly became very apparent to his foster home that Buford, while being very friendly, had received no socialization or training whatsoever. He had no clue what being leash-walked was. He was scared to death of coming into a home and certain types of flooring. Once we did get him inside, he found all sorts of fun things that were chewable (he literally ate an entire phone book). He was also very underweight and had a very bad coat. Time, love, proper nutrition and a lot of patience took care of most of these issues. However, Buford was most comfortable outside. As was and always will be our policy, MBR decided that Buford would be happiest continuing to be an outside dog EXCEPT with a lot more attention, companionship and love. Ellie was the same way. Then we got an application from the Shull family. They BOTH were adopted by the Shull family of Illinois in October 2001. They will both enjoy the company of a veritable zoo of animals - 3 other dogs, several cats, 10 turtles, horses, 1 jackass and lots of pigs. Since their new mom drives a truck each day, and the other dogs don't like to ride, Buford and Ellie will get to go for daily truck rides. They had a large area to run and play in with separate areas for sleeping and shelter, right behind the house. The other animals' areas were also fenced, so they got to help do chores with their new family. Best of all, they were both now going to receive proper medical attention, food and love for the rest of their lives - something their original owners failed to provide.

Update 8/07: Ellie passed away a year ago - she just curled up and passed away. Buford (Bosco) is still doing fine - stinky as ever.

Buford II

Buford II was adopted by the Martin family of Indiana in November 2001. He joins big bloodhound brother, Huckleberry. The two are still unsure of each other but both agree that couches and beds are wonderful places to sleep!

Buford IV

Buford was adopted by the Roberts Family of Missouri in February 2006. This spunky young lad joins a family that's truly FUN. Buford now has two 4-legged canine brothers and two 2-legged human brothers. Buford was last seen playing with his 2 legged new brothers and at last we heard, they all slept in a pile on their way home!

Bugsy n/k/a Toby

Bugsy n/k/a Toby has been adopted by the Kreklau family of Illinois in February 2005. He joins 3 basset hound brothers to play with and to teach him the ropes as he matures!

Bundy n/k/a Corky

Bundy was adopted by the Johnson family of Illinois in January 2008. He was MBR's first experience with an Irish Terrier and he definately made it memorable! Bundy with have a big 4-legged sister and three 2-legged siblings to help him burn all that energy!

Update 1/08: Bundy, now Corky, is settling in well.  He had several accidents in the house (#1 & #2) so we're crate-training him and it seems to be going well.  He's clearly used to being in a crate & doesn't complain about it.  He's great with everyone, even with our old lab, Sasha.  (The cat is another story, but they will work that out.)

Burke n/k/a/ Otis

Otis was adopted by the Rudinski Family in April 2007. He will enjoy his new brother Ollie, a Lab.

Buster

Buster was adopted by the Wagner family of Missouri in August 2002.

Update 2/08: I adopted Buster from you guys 5 years ago. Were doin great but Buster turned 7 today and he is starting to get stiff joints in his shoulders. Do you know of anything I can give him to stop this? He gets excersize with me daily at work but he gets real sore after our 6 mile hikes.

Butch

Butch was adopted by the Erickson family of Minnesota in November 2006. This handsome, active boy will be the very spoiled only pet at his new home but will enjoy lots of activities and love with his new Dad. As an added bonus, Butch’s new grandparents live right next door!

Buttercup n/k/a Maddie

Buttercup was adopted by the Swenty/Magras family of Wisconsin in May 2003. This beautiful girl (her name fit her perfectly!) joins a big brother lab to play with and 2 cousin kitties to chase.

Caesar

Caesar was adopted by Knazouich's of New Mexico in July 2004.

Callie n/k/a Willow
Callie
See the listing under "Weber"
Carmella

Carmella was adopted by the Valli family of Illinois in March 2005. Carmella was one of a string of 4 dogs that were heartworm positive. She went through her treatment like a champ and proved herself to be a wonderful girl. Carmella will enjoy the company of a senior Basset and the full-time care of her new Dad. Her new mom gets to enjoy cuddles at night!

Carter n/k/a Rufus

Carter was adopted by Mr. Thompson of Illinois. This lucky boy will get to go to doggy daycare during the week while Dad's at work & enjoy romping on Chicago's lakefront on the weekends!

Update: I’ve been meaning to send you an e-mail for several days and I just wanted to dash you a note on how “Carter” has been doing. In a word, he has been awesome. First off, he is no longer Carter. I decided to call him Rufus which seems to be an appropriate name for his personality. There was only a minimum of crying after we pulled out of your driveway back towards Chicago. By time we got a few miles away he had settled into the blanket he was riding on and slept the entire way back. He is certainly a champion sleeper. From the first night on he has consistently slept through the night and I have to rouse him every morning for his first walk. The most incredible thing about him so far, which I say at the risk of jinxing things, is how quickly he has taken to house training. In the two and a half weeks I have had him now, he has only had a total of three accidents in the house and all three of them were in the vicinity of the front door. Of course I took him out for very frequent walks in the first few days but I would say by his second day with me, he would walk down a couple of steps towards the front door to let me know he wanted to go outside and when we go out, he immediately does his business. There’s lots of praising and I hope this remains his inherent pattern. He seems to really enjoy the daycare he goes to M-F when I am at work and I am forwarding along the attached video that they sent me today as they were amused by his new female interest at their facility. I will try to keep in touch and send along pictures of his rapidly advancing growth.

Casey

Casey was adopted by the Cohen family of Illinois in August 2003. This petite beagle will enjoy playing with her two new 2-legged brothers and her new big sister, Bella, also a beagle.

Cash

Cash was adopted by the Rosson/Markus family of Illinois in February 2007. He will be the very pampered only pet of this active family.
Celina
Celina

Celina was adopted by the Messa family of Illinois in January 2008.
Chessie

Chessie was adopted by the Tschetter/Winkle family of Nebraska in August 2006. This voluptious female has had a rough year - she lost her loving home due to family illness, lost her first new mom due to stupidity and her second new dad just wasn't ready for a new dog (which they didn't realize until they brought her home). Her new family is ready, willing and able to provide all the love & care this lady deserves.

Chevy

Chevy was adopted by the McCleish family of Illinois in January 2006. This young, spunky boy was an eagerly anticipated addition to this young, spunky family. They are in a new house and felt that their lives were missing a companion. Enter Chevy and a match was made!

Update: Chevy is doing great! He is very spoiled, he is our big baby. He cries whenever we walk out of the house, or even if he is not in the same room as one of us. He follows us around all of the time. He has lots of toys and is a little protective of people touching them. He sleeps at the bottom of the bed and if he is still tired he jumps in the bed the minuet we leave the room (then jumps off when he gets caught). We take him to the park and for walks everyday, and he's good with kids. We are very glad to have him, so thanks again!

Chi Chi

Chi Chi was adopted by the Havercamp family of Iowa in September 2004.

Chrissy

Chrissy was adopted by the Sekerek family of Ohio in October 2007. She has a new "big" 4-legged sister to play with and a Mom & Dad to love on her!

Update: As you can see Chrissy is adapting to her new family, sister Rosie, and new surroundings. Does Chrissy bark? She only makes a sqeaking sound. Janet & Chrissy are  competing  for the family room couch. She seems to be a little shy, but she is coming around. Rosie loves her. They enjoy romping in the backyard and long walks.

Update 11/07: Just thought we would let you know how things are going with Chrissy. Both dogs slept the whole ride home, though Chrissy sat up each time we stopped. She must have been curious to see where she was. When we arrived at home, Chrissy trotted around the house, squeaking the entire time. She squeaked constantly for the first couple days. Chrissy has settled in beautifully. She was perfect at the vet's, (no one at the vet's office was surprised when we showed up with a bloodhound!) When the dogs play outside, they chase each other, jump on each other, roll over each other, and try to catch squirrel's. They play quietly in the house, thankfully. They will walk around the house holding the same rawhide. Rosie does get a little jealous when we pet Chrissy, and will get between us, but we can pet both dogs at the same time. Chrissy has settled in beautifully. She loves the walks in the park. (on my days off, we take both dogs for about an hour). The park is about 2 miles away, and is really large, much of it natural. Chrissy was about 10 feet from a deer. They watched each other for a few minutes, then the deer left. Her nose never leaves the ground ; there is an abundance of wonderful smells. Mr. Goober, our last hound, was the same, except he walked slower. Chrissy has gained about 5 pounds. The dogs play so hard that, even though we give her extra food, the weight is coming slowly. Chrissy is happy and healthy, and Ron and I want to thank you for all that you have done for her ( and all the other dogs!), and for being a super foster mom, and family. Ron really likes the collar Chrissy wears. He wants to get one for Rosie. Should we go to the web site, or just e-mail you with the size. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!!

Cindy

Cindy was adopted by the Noirfalise family of Illinois in May 2006. This beautiful girl was dumped in the country a few months ago and a friend of MBR took her in. She will have two new big 4-legged brothers to help show her the ropes in her new home and a new 2-legged sister to take her for walks.

Claire

Claire was adopted by the Wajerski family of Wisconsin in February 2005.

Cletus

Cletus was adopted by the Hurd family of Minnesota. This laid back boy will enjoy the attentions of his 2 new sisters, even though one sister had her heart set on a kitty cousin!
Cody

Cody is now a happy member of the Henderson family in Michigan in July 2002. They tell Mr. Dean, Cody's former foster Dad, that so far he spends his time chasing rabbits and has already tree’d a cat. He spends a lot of time playing with his new 2 legged siblings Alex and Anna.

Update: He's doing good, still destroys, but we're working on it. His girlie kitty, Willow, went to Heaven last month, but he still has Gizmo. He's our boy cat, and he doesn't like Cody one bit!!!! It's quite funny! Cody will make a 10 foot radius to get arounf Gizmo, or stand and whine until I save him! He's quite the couch hog, too. Oh, he has a girlfriend now. My dad rescued a little white german shepard mix who is about 1/2 his size. I dog sit for him and sometimes if my dad is going somewhere for the day he just drops Layla off. They play and play and play for hours! Well, my dad's neighbor is always concerned that Layla is getting too worn out playing with Cody, because when Layla goes home she sleeps for a couple days! But then again - so does Cody! When they come in the house from playing all day, they both make up the stairs (we live on the 2nd floor of our house) and they drop for naps right at the door! We call him "J.P Cody" now. If you look at or pet Layla, her runs over and pushes her out of the way, trying to hog all the attention. He weighs 116 lbs. now and still can't track anything but food. I have to admit he likes people food way more than dog food. We had a problem with fleas last month, oh that was aweful. We had to switch his flea drops to a different brand, because it just stopped working. We thought he was allergic to his dog food, so we tried different foods. He had terrible rashes all over, he itched from head to toe, and licked himself literally raw! Poor puppy! Although I never found a flea on him (he was using Advantix) the vet said that the fleas still can jump on, bite, and jump back off. It turns out he is severly allergic to fleas and gets terrible rashes from them. I am too - wonder if he got that from me?!?! I wish we could take him up north with us, but there are no fences and it's not fair to keep him tied up to a tree or locked in the house. We found a real nice couple that have a kennel and they are Great Dane people. So they like large dogs, and Cody isn't the largest thing there. They have horses for him to watch and bark at all day! Mark (one of the owner's) likes to show off Cody to his friends whenever they come over and Cody is there. Cody can do "Reach for the Sky" (Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story), lay down, sit, he shakes with both hands, and he can say "Thank you" with 2 syllables. He learned that one last week!

Cooper

Cooper was adopted by the Stimac/Johnson family of Illinois in September 2002.

Update 12-03: Cooper is a good dog but stubborn. He can be a bit of a bully but gets along well with his doggie sibling. He has put on some weight but is in good health.

Update 8/04: Cooper was returned because he stole unattended meat that was resting on top of the stove.

Cooper was adopted by the Fiessinger family of Kentucky in September 2004. He will enjoy playing with his new little 2-legged brother and getting totally spoiled by his new Mom & Dad

Cordy n/k/a Ruby

Cordy was adopted by the Hurlburt family of Wisconsin in August 2003. She joins a big brother Lab and two 2-legged little girls to play with as she grows. Her new mama will also begin training her for SAR.

Update 12/04: Hey Bloodhound family. Just wanted to send a note from Ruby. All's well at the North Pole. As all of you can see she enjoyed her christmas pic. yet another year. She is one of the best dogs. She is kind, sensitive can be a tad shy but also can drool with the best of them. Were thinking about maybe getting another one. We figure our house is big enough and we have enough paper towels for the drool. Ruby still does her weekly trips to the Nursing home. If you get anything that would match us let us know. I think a male would do better she's enough bitch to go around. Damm females. Talk to ya later Will be sending some stuff when I get it ready.
Happy Holidays Take care of everyone. Sincerely Ruby Hurlburt family

Update 2/08: Here's a recent pic. of Ruby (cordy) adopted about 4 years ago. She loves all of her puppies.  This should be the only kind of puppy people should have or take an I.Q. test which aaaaalllllooootttt of people would fail. Hope things are going well!

Cottle

Cottle was adopted by the Steltenpohl family of Indiana in September 2002. This lucky boy will join sister "Rebecca" in her SAR training and if initial are any indication, Cottle should prove to be one great mantrailer. In his relaxing time, he'll also have two 2-legged siblings to play with.

Coupe

Coupe was adopted by the Larsen family of Illinois in October 2008. They lost their beloved bloodhound, Odie, and he left a huge void in their lives. Along came Coupe and he is just the boy to help fill that void! After some obedience training, this hard-headed but loveable mantrailing monster will be hitting the trails hard & heavy - TDX....here he comes!
Cricket

Cricket was adopted by Intelligarde International of Toronto, Ontario, in August 2003. This inquisitive girl will join a large canine force as the only bloodhound search & rescue girl for her new community. She came to rescue already trained because her owners' team switched to only german shepherds. That communities loss is Toronto's gain.

Update 12-03 Cricket - She is doing sooooo good. Loves the German Shepherd and is doing very well on her trails. Its unbelievable how much muscle she has!

Update 2004: Hope you and your family are well. Just a quick note to let you know that Cricket is adorable and doing just fine. She has already won over everyone's hearts. Interest in our K-9 unit, both from our officer and outside sources, has risen dramatically since the Princesses arrival. She is fantastic. I will be sending you some pictures next week. Once again, Thank you for everything.

Cristina n/k/a Zaria

Cristina was adopted by the Davis/Sirochman family of Colorado in April 2007. She joins a big Rottie sister and an older sedentary Bulldog sister. Her rottie sister loves to play so Cristina will get plenty of exercise romping with her. Cristina’s new family loves to go hiking and camping so she will get to explore lots of new places.

Update: I wanted to update you on Malina's pup, Christina - aka Zaria.  She is doing GREAT!  She LOVES her sisters, especially Cheyenne the Rottweiler.  She has made Cheyenne act like a puppy again.  They continually play and taunt one another.  She loves her sister Acoma too, the bulldog, but Acoma is up there in age and has been recently diagnosed with cancer so she is a little short tempered with the playful puppy.  She will tolerate her for about 10 minutes of play then walk off leaving Zaria unsatisfied.  She attends doggie daycare one day a week so she is very social with other animals.  She makes some halarious noises when people come to visit, somewhere between a  bay and a bark - she is very vocal and loves everyone and everything.  Here are a few updated pictures of her - hope all is well with the rescue center and thank you again for what you do !!!

Curly II

Curly II was adopted by Mr. Wahl of Wisconsin in January 2004. This gentleman recently lost his beloved shepherd and was looking for a new companion. He found the perfect match in Curly II. Curly II will enjoy romping at his new owner's home and getting the attention of visitors to their campground all summer long.

Update 7/04: Curly II - doing very well. He's a great dog!

da Moose n/k/a Romeo

da Moose was adopted by Rubeo family of Illinois in September 2002.

Update 9/03: Doing Great!! We love him!

Daffy n/k/a Dinah

Daffy was adopted by the Malina family of Illinois in January 2007. Daffy was found as a stray and was in pretty poor shape. She was heartworm positive but went through treatment very well. Now she can romp & play with her new four-legged buddies (2 senior Bassets and 1 senior Coonhound). If that doesn’t tire her out, then her 5 new two-legged siblings should finish the job!

Daisy III

Daisy III was adopted by a wonderful family of Missouri in April 2002. This spunky girl has new playmates at her home and a wonderful, loving family. Notes from Foster Mom...They had Mason (bloodhound) and then met me over the Internet reading my story about APA Daisy, they then came out to meet her, did a follow up visit, then took Daisy home for a week trail period, then we did the adoption, Kerri (new mom) has worked so hard with Daisy and her issues and house breaking this girl in her brand new home and carpet, Brian (new dad) even bought a used car to take these two with him all over the place.

Update 12/03: Daisy III is doing very well and in good health. She has fun playing with their other dog. She is very sweet.
Daisy VII

Daisy VII was adopted by the Stephens family of Missouri in August 2003.

Daisy VIII

Daisy was adopted by the Collier family of Indiana. Their Husky puppy was so excited to meet his new sister. Daisy's new adult siblings were a little less enthusiastic but not by much!

Daisy IX

Daisy IX has been adopted by her foster family, the Dunn's, of Illinois in January 2004. Daisy survived being hit by a car, going without medical treatment for 6 days, not to mention a bone infection, multiple fractures including a broken pelvis and crushed femor. Daisy enjoys being spoiled with her new 4-legged sisters, Lucy and Topaz. Daisy loves to sing with her new Dad the song "grunt/groan/stretch"...

Update: Daisy is a nut and what would we do without her? She's become a very vocal dog? WOW ... what happened to the quiet foster dog from Nov. 2003? She's so much fun and we love her sooooooo much! She's such a big lovable goofball - Better go, Daisy and her sister Topaz are starting wrestlemania so I think its time to go "outside".

Daisy XI

Daisy was adopted by the LaFleur/Olson family of Wisconsin in June 2005. This poor little girl was siezed from her first owners by local police due to extreme abuse. She was then adopted out to a loving lady who was not educated on the breed or how to handle abused dogs. When Daisy came to us, she was extremely timid and fear-pee'd over most everything. She was especially timid around men. Thanks to the efforts of her foster dad, she almost never fear pees anymore, and best of all - has learned to accept and give love. She will be the pampered only pooch in her new home (even though her new kitty cousins aren't real happy about her being there so far).

Daisy XII n/k/a Daphne

Daisy XII was adopted by the Mounts family of Indiana in April 2006.

Daisy XIII

Daisy XIII was adopted by the Walters family of Virginia in May 2008. She has a new bloodhound sister to play with and two 2-legged sisters!

Update 5/08: I thought I would email you both the update on Daisy's first day with us.  She did very well (as to be expected) in the airport and on the plane.  She didn't like the crate but she didn't fight it too much. When we saw her again once she was in Richmond, her tail was wagging and she seemed happy to see new faces and familiar voices again.  That made us feel good too.  She jumped right in the back of the Yukon and eager to get home. We introduced her to our other baby, Miss Ellie and that went pretty good too.  However she became very protective over us when Miss Ellie came around and actually acted a little aggressive at times.  We let them play together for just little small increments to slowly have them both adjust.   It didn't take long to find out how much Daisy LOVES to play catch with tennis balls and we were very impressed how she fetched and brought the ball back only to drop it right at our feet.  And like a typical bloodhound, no matter how tired she was after fetching for about 100 times...she would keep on as long as we kept throwing.  She at a pretty good dinner, drank lots of water and played hard for her first few hours.....and then we brought her in to her crate and she took a little while to calm down. We are looking forward to tomorrow when things are so brand new....and we will continue to introduce her to her new home.Peter...thank you for allowing us to give Daisy a new home and already we have started falling in love with her.

Daisy XIV

Daisy XIV was adopted by the Raddatz family of Missouri in December 2009. She joins big sister Nala, another bloodhound.

Update 12/09: Just wanted to let you see Daisy's first afternoon in her new yard. It is finally quiet here, for they are both sleeping. Nala is being very voicetrous and a big stinker. She was like that with my daughters boxer too when she first started bringing her around. She'll get used to the idea and the reality that she has too share. I told you she was spoiled and I was not kidding by any means. But Daddy has been very good about letting her know that there is enough love for both of them and that she is just going to have to get used to it. Daisy does love prancing around the yard, right now she is sleeping on the couch with her clean blankie. I already washed and dried it for her and put all fresh blankets out on the couch and the beds on the floor so she could put her smell on them too. Well gotta go and get some things done now that the kids are asleep and being good. Thank you so much for everything. We love her.

Update: They are getting along pretty well. Nala keeps bringing her toys to play with, but Daisy isn't interested. They have been sharing very well though. Hope you enjoy the pics and know that she is well taken care of.

Daisy Duke

Daisy Duke was adopted by the Guthrie family of Illinois in December 2009.

Daphne n/k/a Bella

Daphne was adopted by the Sandora family of Illinois in February 2004. This spunky little girl is this couple's first "child". She will enjoy all the love and attention of her new family as she grows!

Update 9/04: Bella got a new sister(Ali) in May, another lab mix. They are both great! Training is an everyday process, but they are wonderful. Within the last week we have graduated both our pups to have the run of the house while we are gone. So far so good! Bella is now 47 lbs and full of energy. Bella and Ali go running in a large field by our house everyday and love to play with the other pups in the neighborhood.

Darius

Darius was adopted by the Carpenter family of Illinois. He has one new 2-legged sibling and a new German Shepherd brother.
Dawn n/k/a Cookie

Dawn was adopted by the Polhemus family of Illinois in July 2003. This lucky little puppy joins big sister, Gertie a/k/a The Ugly Puppy, and new 2-legged siblings to play with.

Delilah

Delilah was adopted by the Pavlat family of Illinois in October 2001. Delilah is a bloodhound/black lab puppy who will enjoy playing with her new Bassett hound brother and beagle mix sister. Delilah's mom, Ellie, was also turned in to a shelter 3 days before she was born.

Update 9/03: Delilah is doing very well and is a great dog.

Update 8/07: Delilah is very gentle with the kids. She's a good dog - very sweet & lovable, a great companion.

Dempsey

Dempsey was adopted by the Bernstein family of Nebraska in December 2005. His new family has owned several bloodhounds in the past so they are pretty wise to the ways of bloodhounds! Dempsey will have 8 acres that are all fenced in so he will have lots of room to run around and play with his new 4-legged sister. On his first day at his new home, he found the pond and decided to suddenly take an ice bath. The next day, he decided to open the sliding glass door all by himself and go exploring in the neighborhood. After lots of panic and frantic searching, he came running back home.

Update 3/05: Dempsey is absolutely healthy and doing well.  He doesn’t really have a nose on him which is disappointing.  The more troubling part is he has a Jekyll & Hyde personality.  His food aggression seems to be getting worse in that he growls and barks at us when we’re close to him and the food but he hasn’t snapped at us yet.  And he can be happy as a lark getting petted but then all of a sudden just starts growling.  It takes a bit of time to get him to relax and snap out of it. Wish I had that dog whisperer fella close by.

Denny n/k/a Jon

Denny was adopted by the Carpenter family of Iowa in July 2006. He is joined by a big sister Weimeraner and 4 kitty cousins. Denny impressed everyone he met with his quiet, loving demeanor and the soft, squishy feel of his beautiful coat. His new family lost their much beloved bloodhound earlier this year and life just didn't seem right without a slobberer in the house. His new dad was so excited he is probably STILL grinning from ear to ear!

Update 12/07: Merry Christmas from Denny! I'm now called Jon Carpenter and thought I would drop you a line as it is christmas time and let you know I'm doing great! I love it here! Dad and Mom put up a new fence for my sis and me this summer and I really enjoy it. I've been getting frequent visits from all my dog cousins (7 of them) and we have a ball although it makes Mom & Dad a little uptight at times as thats a lot of dogs in one place at one time. I've learned to yowl when Dad comes home which makes him laugh. I've learned to sit when told and know my new name very well as I hear it a lot. I'll have Dad get some pics of me under the tree for you so you can see what a fun time I'm having.

Update 5/09: It's been a while so thought I'd send you a new photo of Jon and our newest arrival Adeline.  Addie is first grandchild and Jon just adores her.  When she comes to our house, which is often, Jon starts howling before she gets in the driveway.Jon is such a good boy.  He is so gentle and easy going.  He is very attentive with his new friend but not overly protective.  Addie was born in Feb. this year and as she gets older she seems to like the big lug too.Hope all is well on your end .

Derek n/k/a Rossi

Derek was adopted by the Terando family of Indiana in March 2007. He will be the very pampered only pooch but will have to share some attention with is 3 new kitty cousins. Derek is a very lucky little boy. He was one of the first boys to go home and was, by all appearances, happy and healthy. Puppies can be very sensitive and not show any problems or signs of illness until they quite literally crash. That is what happened to Derek. He crashed the night after he went home and was found to have a severe case of pneumonia. Derek responded well to treatment is now doing fine with his new family.

Update 10/07: Oh, I've been thinking about this for sometime now! Rossi (aka Derek) is doing fantastic! He's Huge! He's such a goodlooking dog, too! Thank you so much for the info, Sandi. Maybe we could work on a family reunion! I'll send pictures when I get home!

Update 1/10: I hope the New Year is treating the Midwest Bloodhound Rescue well! I just wanted to give you an update on Derek aka Rossi. The BLABS will be 3 in a couple of days-hard to believe! Rossi is such a joy! He's so smart and his personality is playful, yet laidback. We don't take any trips that we can't bring him with! He LOVES to swim, his favorite place is Northern Michigan! He's come such a long way since the night we brought him home! Our vet was convinced that the strong antibiotics from his puppy pneumonia would stunt his growth, he's now almost 125lbs! The one constant comment from everyone he meets is how Handsome he is! I'm sure his brothers and pretty sisters get the same! Anyway, thank you for allowing us the priviledge of having him in our family!

Diesel n/k/a Dooley

Dooley was adopted by the Gray family of Illinois in March 2004. This wonderful, sensitive, spunky boy is enjoying playing with his new lab sister and his very own 2-legged boys. As is common with young dogs, especially bloodhounds, Diesel had some minor behavioral issues that were quickly corrected with structure, appropriate reprimands and patience. His new family understands his need for structure (with 2 little boys, ya gotta have structure!) and Diesel is acclimating very well.

Update 7/04:Diesel n/k/a Dooley - is doing great. He is a very happy dog. He went through obedience class and is now in Intermediate class.

Dilbert a/k/a Buford

Dilbert was adopted by the Reason family of Indiana in July 2005. This boy truly is lucky to be alive! When he came into the shelter, he weighed only 60 lbs. and was infested with about everything a dog can be infested with. His inner strength and winning personality kept him going and his rescuers hopeful. The only thing left for him to do is put on weight and get used to his new family. Dilbert will have three 2-legged siblings to play with and, in the near future, another 4-legged playmate!

Dixie II

Dixie II was adopted by Ms. Hovey of Michigan in September 2009. MBR met Ms. Hovey in 2002 when she adopted Annie from us. Annie lived a long & happy life until her recent passing. Along came Dixie to help heal her heart.
Drew n/k/a Doofus

Drew was been adopted by the Conley family of Wisconsin in March 2005. He joins big brother Zeke, another MBR bloodhound as his playmate.

Update: Update from Doofus...My family has found a great dog park to take me and the others too.  Im pretty popular there (well anywhere I go) must be my charming personality. I have decided to let Don run the house!!! I will be the dog and HE can run the roost. He wants to be the ALPHA so bad he can!! haha....Im not sure about all the time I have to share my master with this little girl thats staying with us...mom assures me she is a cutie and will get adopted in no time. Life here is pretty good, I go to the spa on a regular basis to get pampered (I cant call it beauty parlor, Im way to macho for that). It cant possibly be because Im a stinky dog!!! Well it is late and I cant wait to crowd mom and dad out of there spot on the bed so I guess I will say goodbye for now!! See you at the next expo..... Doofus.

Duchess II n/k/a Ellie

Duchess II was adopted by the Durbin family of Illinois in February 2008.

Update 2/08: Ellie(Duchess) has been with for one week. She came in took over the first night-shyness is not something I associate with her. She is simply adorable. I'm always amazed at rescue dogs that are dumped- why would anyone dump a dog like this? Thank you

Dudditz n/k/a Dudley

Dudley was adopted Grossman/Voss family of Illinois in September 2005. He will enjoy playing a little bit with his BIG big brother, a Great Dane, and going for long walks with his new parents.

Duke IV

Duke was adopted by the Ford family of Wisconsin in September 2002. This lovely boy will have fun playing with his 2 new Lab friends - one of which might actually out-play Duke! He will also have two 2-legged siblings to play with.

Update 11-03: Duke IV is spoiled rotten! His vet is impressed with how he looks and what a sweetheart he is. He does have some food aggression, though.

Duke VI

Duke VI was adopted by the McKinney family of Indiana in June, 2003.

Duke VII

As of February 2004, Duke is a very happy boy. After a very rough start in life, he’s now living the easy life with the Turner's of Ohio. He also has several four legged brothers and sisters to play with. Last we heard, they were all playing happily and sleeping-in at the foot of their parent’s bed (this is every bloodhound’s vision of heaven).

The Turner's run a dog training academy for police work. Mr. Turner is also a K-9 officer and hopes to use Duke in Search and Rescue work. We’re sure Duke’s up to the task as his favorite thing is to run on lead with his nose on the ground. Duke will be greatly missed by his foster family but we know he’s a very happy boy.

Update: Sandi, I stopped up and Duke saw Don. Don and Duke were happy to see each other after a year. Duke is doing well. We work around his aggression issues, and he is nationally certified with NASAR, and will be getting his Ohio Police cert in the spring. Ohio only has 8 police bloodhounds in the state. I sent some new pics if you want to use the for the site.

Update 9/07: I am not sure if you remember me. My name is Jeff Turner & I own K9 Solution Center (www.dopedog.com). I just wanted to keep you posted that Duke is still doing great. He has been involved in many high profile fugitive cases. I also have used him in the SAR Team I run, as well as on the state prison escape team for fugitives. I have also started to teach bloodhound seminars all over the country and use Duke as an example of what level people can reach with training. He has really turned out nice!

Dunken

Dunken was adopted by the Ray family of Michigan in November 2003. He has a new mom and dad as well as a brother and sister. He instantly bonded with his new 12 year old sister who seems to have already claimed him as her own. They make a great pair. He’ll also have a Labrador Retriever to play with when his sister is not around.

Update 11/03: I wish you and Don could have seen Dunken yesterday after we got home. He and Jeb took to each other immediately, which was such a relief. They played almost all afternoon. Jeb has never slept so good. He was exhausted! Dunken and my daughter Elli both fell asleep on the way home from Ohio. Elli's head sort of fell over on top of Dunken's head. Oh how I wish I had brought my camera. It was adorable. He is just such an affectionate dog. We fell in love with him instantly. I did take some pictures yesterday and again this morning. I will try to scan them and email a copy. So far, he has been very well behaved in the house. He is definitely checking everything out. Elli cannot get over how huge those paws are. Oh course we are use to a yellow lab. Big, but not that big. We also just love the way he talks. He makes wonderful sounds. We have not heard him bark yet. But he is quite a talker. We will have to go get a tug of war toy tonight. They kind of destroyed Elli's hat this morning. She didn't mind though. She really didn't like that one anyway.

Dusty

Dusty was adopted by the Cornbleet family of Illinois in May 2005. He will be the pampered only pet and get all the tennis balls to himself!

Echo n/k/a Maya

Echo was adopted by the Alfano/Ortiz family of Illinois in April 2008. This sweet, little girl now has three two-legged siblings and three two-legged siblings. That should keep her busy as she grows!

Update 4/08: We had an excellent first day with Echo, although she got car sick on the way back and didn't feel good in the car. But once we got home, gave her some water, and got settled in the yard, she began to play and be happy again. She is happy with our other dogs, and already getting the routine. We went to our big field in the afternoon (perfect weather), and she had a great one hour hike with us and the dogs. She's sleeping now, sound asleep, in her dog bed, nice and cozy. She's exhausted. So far, everything is just great.

Update 6/08: I am happy to report that everything is going really well with Echo. We have had her for two months now. We changed Echo's name to Maya. So, Maya is growing, happy, playful, goofy. We had her spayed and she's recovering nicely from that. We were going to have her spayed at the Anti Cruelty for much less money than our vet but it turned out that they don't do the procedure on bloodhounds. Then I made an appointment with the Animal Welfare League but I didn't like the sound of the place: too many dogs, workers too stressed, felt like a factory. So, we spent the extra money and got quality care for her. Maya is eating well everyday and getting good exercise. All of a sudden, she developed three big warts on her face. We took her to the vet immediately and he said the warts are caused by a virus, that sometimes puppies were prone to this and that they would go away in 6-8 weeks. At least they are not contagious. I will send a photo when Maya gets bigger.

Update 9/08: Here are 2 silly photos that we took yesterday of my husband (Beco) and Maya (formerly Echo, adopted from you in April). As you can see, Beco & Maya kind of look alike. As you can also see, "little Maya" is now a big girl. You can't see but my husband is also wearing his favorite t-shirt which says "Only My Dog Understands Me". Maya is doing really great with us. She is the best: great temperament, great health. We run her every day, she gets plenty of exercise. She eats well, sleeps on our beds (as you can see), loves all the family members and other dogs in our pack. We are so glad we got her!

Update 5/09: She weighs about 70 pounds, and is a picture of excellent health. We feed her Nature's Select which we consider to be a premium dog food. We run her, with our other dogs, in a cemetery field (using dogtra collar), about 5 - 6 times a week (occasionally we miss a day b/c of rain). So, she gets lots of exercise, in addition to our small yard, and she also sleeps on our double bed (how's that for spoiled!). Maya's temperament/character is excellent. She is loving, silly, gentle, vocal, playful, and just so nice.

Update 10/09: Here are some photos my son took today of me & Maya. We adopted her from you in April of 2008 when she was just a 4-month old pup. Now look at her! She's doing really great w/us. She love her to pieces...

Ed a/k/a Duke

Ed a/k/a Duke was adopted by the Rains family in January 2002.

Eenie

Eenie was adopted by the Peter/Lindsay-Jones family of Illinois in October 2004.

Elie

Elie was adoted by the Hurst family in Feburary 2010.
Ellen

Ellen was adopted by the Cook family of Illinois in October 2007. She will enjoy playing with her new big brother, a chocolate Lab, and little 2-legged sister.

Update: Just wanted to let you know that so far, so good with Ellen.  She enjoys her morning run with Simon and they get along just fine.  She’s very curious, very nosy, and a bit of a mischief maker (she likes chewing up unused diapers).  She’s very nice and she’s doing well.

Update 11/07: Ellen is doing very well. She's a jealous girl who wants all of the attention for herself. She loves going for her runs with me & Simon (our Lab) in the morning. Everyone is very taken by her when they see that forlorn-looking face. We're very happy with her!

Update 1/08: Just a note to let you know that Ellen is doing really well.  She’s about 93 lbs. now.   Ellen’s a gentle girl and our 2 yr old daughter Sofia loves playing with her.  She loves her run every morning and she’s a really great dog to have around.

Update 12/09: I adopted Ellen a little over 2 years ago and she's been a wonderful dog.  Best of luck with the good work you do with these great dogs.

Ellie III

Ellie was adopted by the Currie/Biechman family of Illinois in January 2003. MBR had described Ellie as being "almost" the perfect dog. She is extraordinarily well-behaved for a bloodhound, mellow, sweet and obedient. She will now enjoy the attentions of and playing with her new family's Lab, Miniature Schnauzer, Scottish Terrier, 2 cats and four new 2-legged siblings.

Update: Ellie is doing great! She has moved up in the chain of command and is now alpha over all dogs in the house and thinks she can boss the cats around to. But we know who wins there. Zach my 6yr old son loves her because she is the only one that won't drag him around the block even though she is three times his size. We have added a new addition to the family and her name is lacey and she is a 6 mth old chocolate lab that loves to play but Ellie keeps her in her place. Just a little update from the Currie/Biechman house.

Ellie Mae

Ellie Mae was returned to her breeder in North Carolina in August 2007. Most people are not aware that quality, responsible breeders will take pups they've bred back if the owners cannot keep them. So, if you buy a pup, make sure its from a responsible breeder because you never know what life holds in store for us!!
Ellis a/k/a Katey

Ellis was adopted by the Davis family of Maryland in April 2007. She joins a big sister Husky mix to show her the ropes and three 2-legged siblings to love on. Ellis even has a new Grandpa & Grandma to help spoil her!

Ellsie

Ellsie was adopted by the Nuffer family of Michigan in March 2002. She joins a basset hound sibling, who was previously rescued from a shelter. Ellsie and the basset weren't real sure of each other at first but they should soon be fast friends.
Elvis

Emma

Emma was adopted by the Pueggel family of Iowa in March 2004. When Emma came in to MBR, she was quite literally scared of her own shadow inside but more confident outside. She did not appear to have been abused, more a case of neglected socially. What was clear was that this girl was exceptionally sweet and desparately wanted to be loved. Since Emma is much more comfortable outside (normal household noises scare the bijiminies outta her), her new home is going to keep her very comfortably outside. While MBR rarely places bloodhounds to be outdoor dogs, our primarly goal is doing what is right for the dog and where the dog is most comfortable. Emma will receive a lot of love and attention at her new home in an environment that makes her the most comfortable.

Update: Hello. Emma has found our bed to be quiet comfortable. We couldn't find her yesterday and there she was laying spread out laid up against our pillows just as relaxed as could be. She looked adorable. I think she was telling us, "this is the life". Charlie and Emma are starting to play a little more each day. Emma no longer is growling at him. She's eating pretty good too. She likes the squeaky toys. The stuffed animals she tries to chew up so we have to watch her with those. She did take a bite out of our remote control that was laying on our bed so we have to make sure we keep it picked up. It has a big bite mark through it but still works. (all part of dog ownership I guess) The candle is awesome. We think we're hooked on them. We will be ordering some in the near future. They are the BEST! I think Roger really took a liking to Wilbur when he was here. We hope he does okay with his eye problems. Take Care....

Emmie

Emmie has been adopted by the Ford Family of Wisconsin in November 2004. They drove all the way to southern Illinois to pick her up. After arriving home, she was soon playing with all her new sisters and brothers (both two and legged). Her new brother Jethro, another MBR bloodhound, seemed especially taken with her as he showed her around her new home. Thanks again to the Ford’s, who have once again saved another precious hound.

Eugene

Eugene was adopted by the Roberts family of Missouri in February 2007. The beautiful red boy came to MBR over a year ago as an owner turn-in. He was living in an apartment and being left alone for up to 16 hours a day. Needless to say, it wasn’t working well. Eugene was first adopted to a lovely young family and he did wonderfully. The problem was that they had a constant revolving door at their home and he had no time to acclimate to his new home or adjust to all the people coming and going. So, back he came. Then he was adopted by a middle-aged couple. MBR has nothing nice to say about these people other than they brought Eugene back a year later. We’ll leave it at that. MBR found Eugene to be the much dirtier and skinnier but same sweet loveable boy. He is now going to enjoy life with the Roberts family. They previously adopted Buford from us so Eugene will have a bloodhound playmate. He will also have two 2-legged boys of his own to play with too!

Fozzie

Fozzie was adopted by the Matthews family of Illinois in March 2005.

Frack n/k/a Grace

Grace was adopted by the Vinson family of Illinois in October 2004.

Update: Sandy I'm sure you know the joy this little beagle has given my family! We decided on changing her name to Grace, after the show "Will and Grace" my oldest son Patrick thought it would be funny since we call our youngest son "Will". Potty training is going pretty well, did you do paper training inside, beacause if she does have an accident it ison newspaper. She doe's wonderful on the leash. I'm telling everyone where we got her, spreading the word. Thanks again for everything, we will send pictures soon.

Fred

Fred was adopted by the Helms family of Kentucky in February 2002. He joins two 2-legged siblings, a big sister Dalmation, 3 cats and several birds. Fred will also enjoy romping with his new family in their fenced acre of land.

Update: Hi Sandi - It is going great with Fred. He has adapted well with everyone. He gets along well with Abby our dalmation and our cats. Had a great check up at the vet, the vet loved him. He weighted in at 60 lbs started heart worm medicine and got 2 set of shots. We enjoy Fred very much! He is as much my buddy as he is Diana's, so I'm not in the dog house. Thanks a million!! The Helms Family

Update 9/03: Fred is doing great. He weighs 120 lbs. and is a big healthy baby who still tries to be a lap dog. He loves the cats & neighbors and they love him too.
Freight Train n/k/a Jake

Frieght Train was adopted by the Goldsmith family of Illinois in September 2005. This huge boy came to MBR as a yearling and was adopted into a very loving home. However, his new home soon came to realize FT's potential in SAR work and, as MBR had a working home available, agreed to the transfer. FT began his SAR training and showed real promise. Unfortunately, this new family fell on difficult times and could not keep him. As luck would again have it for FT, there was another SAR home looking for a bloodhound to train. FT now has two new 4-legged siblings, four feline cousins and a few feathered friends.

Update 11/08: Jake has been a delight and more than a handful, but all his issues are more than made up for by his personality and very sweet disposition.  We have four other dogs and three cats and Jake is great with all of them except for rawhides which he tries to steal.  They all eat and sleep together.  I recently married and I tell people that my husband married me to get Jake - he doesn't argue.  We don't have a large area to fence in but we go for daily walks.  We did have any interesting summer though as Jake broke my arm. It's kind of a funny story as all bloodhound stories are.  We had just finished 9 weeks of obedience class (which he hated) and I had spent the morning working on sit/stay and heel during our walk.  Well, I decided Jake needed a break and stopped by his favorite 'peeing' tree.  He took off after a squirrel and the leash went around the tree stopping him.  Jake returned immediately and sat - all on his own.  I praised him and was preparing to put him back into heel position again when he took off again and this time wrapped my arm around the tree.  My radius snapped and the ulna chipped at the wrist.  Jake had no clue until after we made it home, then he acted very concerned.  In the end, I had to have it plated and it's doing really well.  Jake, on the other hand, is very unhappy as he has to wear the gentle leader around his nose now on walks.   I figure we're even - I have a plate and he has a halti. There was also the time that he almost took out my flanker's knees when he thought a mailbox was going to attack during a training.  I guess he didn't see it and suddenly yowled and jumped back about ten feet and landed on Jim's knees.  After realizing no one was hurt, we laughed so hard we cried and had to start over at the beginning.  Luckily for Jake and I, Jim has a rescue bloodhound too. Jake is a wonderful dog and I'm very lucky to have him.  His legacy will be that all my bloodhounds in the future will be from rescue organizations.  With five dogs and Jake still very full of energy and mischief, we aren't quite ready yet, but in about 2 years when we get more land, I'll be looking.

Frick n/k/a Mickey

Frick was adopted by the Bonomo family of Illinois in October 2004.

Update: Have a few questions and wanted to give you an update on one of your former house guests. I have named Frick, Mickey, as in Mickey Mantle, being the huge baseball fan that I am. Wanted a female name with two syllables. Best I could do, but it is working out just fine. Mickey is doing great. She has been to the vet twice & got her updated shots and will get spayed in December. She almost did me in two weeks ago. I was walking her in the back yard which slopes down to a pond. It was in the morning and the grass was still wet. I had my slippers on which have no traction. You can see it coming. Some ducks took off from the pond and she got startled. Her leash was around my leg and down I went and twisted my ankle and foot pretty bad. Went to the emergency room the next day because the foot was swollen quite a bit. They took Xrays and fortunately there was no broken bones. They gave me crutches and said I should be ok in about 3 weeks.
