Success Stories G-L

G.G.

G.G. was adopted by the Smith family of Kentucky in August 2002. She joins big bloodhound brother, Hank, to play with in her new yard.

Update 2003: We just got some new pics of the family and thought we would send some. One is of GiGi and the other is the gang with Mom and the treat jar. We have added a pound hound from Georgia. Her name is Haley and she is GiGi’s best friend. We have to drag her out of G’s crate because they want to sleep together. Well I gotta go, just thought you would like to see what a beautiful girl she has become!

Update 2/08: Here is some pictures of GiGi and Priscilla.

Garbanzo Bean

Garbanzo Bean was adopted by the Abraham family of Indiana in November 2004.

Gator

Gator was adopted by the Raines family of Illinois in June 2008. The recently lost both of their beloved pets and the house was just way to quiet and lonely without a dog. Gator has two older 2-legged siblings to help expend his energy and a very happy new Mom & Dad.

Update 6/08: We have loved him for the moment he entered our life's, we are very greatful to have adopted him. He has such a loving and playful character.  He is enjoying his new home and yard. We have been getting him used to the new area and walking him everyday.  Our next adventure will be walking him down to the beach. The more he noes the area the easier his seems to be to walk , even though I think Jims arm is getting longer!  I have one question, do they make a water bowl that is taller and more narrow? I thought this might help his ears from getting so wet. Or should we put vasoline on the bottom of his ears to keep from chapping? They haven't yet , but we thought we would ask.  Once again thank you for the opportunity to adopt Gator.

Update 8/09: Gator has a new sister.....see success story for Lulu!

George

George was adopted by the Olson family of Wisconsin in February 2002. He will enjoy the company of Tina (lab) and Trigger (beagle), as well as two new 2-legged brothers. This sweet boy was found as a stray in Indiana and quickly stole the hearts of his foster home with his quiet demeanor. His new home also babysits 2 other bloodhounds when their people go on vacation.

UPDATE 9/03: George is doing great - no problems. He is a big baby who lays around most of the time but still gets carried away at others.

George III

George III was adopted by the Vandenberg family of Michigan. This lucky pup joins this young family and will soon be spoiled rotten being the only dog.

Update 10/09: Just wanted to let you know that George is adapting very well. He slept the entire way home and my wife (Stephannie) loved the surprise. He's already found the food dish, couch (and some chairs), and my wife's gym bag. We're still working on finding the bathroom outside but that was my fault, I didn't leave him out long enough. It was great to meet you and thanks again.

Giles n/k/a Elvis

Giles n/k/a Elvis was adopted by the Johnson family of Illinois in July 2003.

Goobers

Goobers was adopted by the Curtis/Samuel family of Ohio in September 2005. This very active and fortunate boy has already beat the odds once by cheating death from a round of distemper. Now he gets a forever home to give & receive all the love and attention he could ever want. He even has a big sister retired Greyhound to help show him the ropes.

Update 12/07: Goober was the Bloodhound with distemper that was adopted in 2005 and brought back to Cincinnati, the weekend after Hurricane Katrina.  He was so skinny at that time but thought you would enjoy some pics of him now.   Despite the sad look on his face, he really is happy!

Update 3/08: Goober is healthy, happy, and great.

Grace

Grace was adopted by the Langston family of Indiana in October 2005. This lucky one-eyed girl will enjoy playing with her new Labrador brother and learning how to play the SAR game.

Gracie

Gracie was adopted by the Shaw's of Illinois in August 2004. Gracie made great friends with the kids from the start!

Greta

Greta was adopted by the Blum family of Wisconsin in April 2005. The beautiful, albeit very skinny, young girl will enjoy being the spoiled only pet in her new home. She has three 2-legged sisters to play with and learn some SAR techniques.

Gunn n/k/a Clyde

Gunn was adopted by Mr. Myers of Illinois in July 2003. This spunky, rough 'n' tough little boy was born in rescue shortly after his Mama Lu came to MBR. After having to share the attention with his 9 siblings, Gunn is going to think he has found heaven being the only spoiled puppy around with his new Dad.

Update 4/04: The Myers' family adopted a brother for Clyde.... he has a new brother Homer!

Update 7/04: Well yesterday was Clyde's 1st b-day. In his usual form ..... he is over excited, full of energy and can't wait to open his presents and blow out the candle. You can imagine how many times I had to ask him to hold still while I tried to get two lousy pictures!

Gus Gus

Gus Gus was adopted by the Ackerman/Hansen family of Illinois in November 2006. He joins big brother Sammy, another MBR bloodhound. Gus Gus will enjoy learning the ropes with his new family (including a big 2-legged sister) and Sammy. Maybe he’ll even teach Sammy a new thing or two!

Update 2/10: He has his own Facebook page his name is  Rufus Ravinewalker III he has some friends would like more I am sure. There are some pics of him on it so if you have some free time and want a laugh you can go see it. He is in a virtual relationship with one of my daughters friends dogs it is quite funny. He is doing fantastically well sleeps with me every night. He won first place in a singing competition, he even got a trophy!! That boy is going places.

Hambone n/k/a Billy

Hambone n/k/a Billy was adopted by the Cisco family of Wisconsin in August 2004. New mom has bassets and fell in love with him right away. She is very happy not to bend down to pet him! So off they went with his ears flapping in the window wind!

Update 8/10/04: I hope nobody minds but I changed his name to Billy. He already knows it and comes when called (unless he is doing something WAY more interesting that me) Anyway he is doing great!! He had some sores on his neck and those are clearing up just fine. Also he has what seems to be fluid on his elbow of the front right leg. We are going to the vet about that. He is such a affectionate boy... doesn't know his size and wants to sit on my lap or lay on top of me while he sleeps. We have gone to the dog park a few times and he does really well staying close by to me. Unfortunately he was playing with some labs on a pier (the labs were jumping in and out of the water)... Billy either fell in or jumped in... but he did not like it. He got water up his nose and spent 10 minutes sneezing. But he went right back on the pier to play, just not in the water this time. He is getting along with the kids in the neighborhood really well. They already come over and visit him and know that he may knock them down by accident while he is licking their faces. He is so happy to have them come to play. I really love him a lot.. my girls (bassets) are getting used to him and he is giving them their space for the most part. We have had just a few outbursts but no real fights. He is good at backing down but really wants to play with them.

Update 8/18/04: Hambone is doing GREAT!! We have had some arguments here about who is going to be the top dog. Funny how dogs work things out. Poor Hambone is finding that he will not very high status with the girls and is learning to back off when they tell him to. No major fights.. just a lot of barking and growling. Our latest discussion is on what is mine and what is his. He insists on sleeping with my dirty clothes and plays keep away with my underwear (very fun when the neighbors are watching and he is running around with my undies). He is such a hound!!! We have been to dog park a lot. He is so wonderful with people and dogs... he has become the ambassador of the park.. welcoming everyone as they arrive. He is so bonded to me.. never lets me out of his site.. where I go he is right there. The hardest thing is finding new high places to put things. I need to hang some shelves to keep things on. He has gained quite a few pounds.. filling out nicely. Strong doesn't even begin describing him.. he is an ox All in all.. I adore him. He is the sweetest boy.. very affectionate, playful and great sense of humor. It is as if we were meant for each other. Thank you for helping us find each other!

Hank

Hank was adopted by the Spaeth family of Wisconsin in April 2005. Even though he is slightly hip-challenged, this spunky boy will enjoy going for walks with his new dad and playing with his four new 2-legged siblings. Hank even has a new Granddad to sit on the enclosed porch with!

Hank-Bob

Hank-Bob has moved in with the Hayworth clan down on the Wabash River in Indiana in September 2002. He has six redbone hounds and several donkeys in his family. His new mom needed an inside dog to lay on the couch and Hank Bob’s an expert at that.

Update12/14/03: Hank-Bob is doing really good. He is spoiled and is a good boy. So far he has been pretty laid back and good in the house.

Update 12/04: Hank-Bob is doing well, he still is very much spoiled - sometimes too spoiled. We had a baby in February and Hank adores him. Our son loves him as well.

Hanna Banana

Hanna was adopted by the Meixner/Mackenzie family of Wisconsin in October 2004. She will have three new 2-legged siblings to play with (and keep her toenails painted).

Update: The Meixner/Mackenzie family dumped Hanna on another woman, who contact MBR. We got Hanna back.

Update: Hanna Banana was adopted by the Bettario family of Illinois in January 2008.

Update 3/08: Hanna is almost over the floor thing.  I watched my neighbor's dog, who she just loves and that helped her to get over some of her fear of the floors because she was following the other dog everywhere.  She is doing great.  Has learned all of the bad habits that a spoiled dog should learn.    She is also starting to get a little more daring in her attempts to steal food....her bloodhound in her is starting to shine through!  :)

Hannah II
Hannah II was adopted by the Boyll family of Indiana in December 2005.

Haps

Haps was adopted by the Costa family of Indiana in February 2002. This lucky boy will enjoy romping with his new English Pointer brother and playing in new yard.

Update: Haps is doing very well. He has 2 other rescue brothers at our house that he plays with all day (or watches, since he prefers laying as opposed to chasing birds). He has three acres he runs around on throughout the day while we are at work, monitored by the pet safe electric fence. During the summer days he can be found laying under a tree enjoying the weather or chasing the
horses and llamas along the fence line. During the winter he is found in the heated dog room in the horse barn (it used to be a veterinarians office, but now consists of a large couch and dog beds). When we get home from work, all of our dogs come in the house for the evening. Health wise he is great. He used to get a bit stiff in the hips, but he now receives daily doses of glucosamine/chondroitin and runs around like a puppy. I have enclosed some pictures of Haps. Please let me know if there is anymore information that you would like to know. Thank you, he has been a blessing for the family!

Harpo

Harpo was adopted by the Simpson family of Illinois in December 2004.

Harry

Harry went to be with his "Forever Family" with the Regal Family in June 2003. Peri has now become a fan of Michigan Football I am told by her son, Kip. He fell in love with Harry at first sight. They all seemed to hit it off right off. The only glitch was that Harry decided to do the driving when it was time to leave.

Heidi

Heidi was adopted by the Michelucci family of Pennsylvania in January 2007. They had lost their beloved bloodhound to Addison’s disease and the house just wasn’t the same without a big slobberer around. Heidi fit the bill perfectly and she is now happily snoozing in front of the fireplace and enjoying her new family!

Hermoine n/k/a Greta

Greta was adopted by the von Inten/Plant family of Florida in January 2002. Greta will be a very spoiled little girl in no time as the only dog of the house but will have to share the backyard with the pet rabbit. Her new 2-legged brother was quite surprised when his parents took him to the airport to pick "something" up and it turned out to be Greta! They are spending quite a bit of time together already and will have lots of fun romping at the beach for many years to come.

Update: 9/03: Greta is doing great. She is friends with the other dogs but does not like the bird. She weighs in at 98 lbs.

Hershey

Hershey was adopted by the Nelson family of Illinois in Augsut 2004. This beautiful little brindle girl will enjoy the love and companionship of her new family as she grows.

Holly

Holly was adopted by the Nusbaum/Kazimer family of Illinois in September 2004.

In early 2010, Holly was found as a stray by the Begolka family. Turns out that, unbeknownst to MBR, Holly has changed hands several times. She hit the jackpot this time. The Begolka family fell in love with her instantly and decided to keep her.

Honey

Honey was adopted by the Lebron family in January 2010.

Update 2/10: She's good. She is terrified of my husband when he walks in the house but she's fine if he's sitting. Men that come over don't seem to bother her as long as she doesn't have to pass them. We've pretty much ignored the behavior but she doesn't seem to be getting any better. Soooo, I've decided to start training with her and maybe she can build her self confidence. She's fine otherwise. No accidents at all, as a matter of fact she comes and tells me when she has to go out. She LOVES the yard. Today we tried fetching with a frisbee, a ball and a stick. I'm used to site hounds so this is pretty funny stuff! She sure tries though. Today she grabbed the stick and ran with the other two dogs chasing her around the pool like they were going for blood, the next thing I knew they were running for their lives the other way with her chasing them. Way to go Honey! I'm looking forward to nicer weather so she can be out more. Her body language is entirely different outside--tail and head up. She's very well behaved in the house. We did have a missing muffin from the counter and the cat sure licks her bowl clean these days but heck, that's what dogs do! We love her. Hope everything is going well for you.

Hopper

Hopper was adopted by the Karmeier family of Missouri in November 2006. Hopper charmed one and all with his goofy, playful, gentle personality. His new family is no exception. Hopper will have lots of little 2-legged people to play with and a new Mom & Dad to guide his energy and give him lots of love.

Update 1/08: I wanted to give you an update on Hopper. I will tell you a little of the bad. If you remember, Hopper bit someone that went into my backyard. Well another stupid person that lived a couple of streets away approched the fence and stuck their hand over without us being around. He bit this lady also. Not bad and it didnt' break the skin. I can't believe people would be that dumb to do that but my theory is that if he didn't look so sweet they would never do it. (NO ONE would put their hand over a fence if it was a German Shepard). Now we dont' let him out without watching him at all times. We have to protect him from these people. He is the friendliest, kindest dog in the world as long as he knows you were invited in my house.  We just love having him. He just loves other dogs and people. He is still a chewer. My loveseat will never be the same but stuff like that happens when you have a dog. I am finally getting use to having slobber on my ceilings. I am definately use to having it on my clothes at all times. We all just duck when he shakes. He still gets unsuspecting visitors :-) We were having a huge issue with his ears and he would not let us near them. I changed vets and the new one ( which is a pretty old guy) spent so much time with Hopper and I. Training me how to take care of them. We have all the ear problems cleared up. I had been taking them to a groomer to get them cleaned and they had left some cotton in one ear and that is when they got so bad. So we don't have to worry about that anymore. I am a bloodhound ear cleaing pro. By the way....it is pretty gross but someone has to do it. Thank you for letting us take Hopper. We have just gotten so much from him and he is such a part of our family.

Update:Just a quick update on Hopper.  He has been wonderful.  My next door neighbor recently adopted a dog so she comes over and plays almost everyday.  Hopper LOVES other dogs and even cats. I thought I would share this great picture of him getting in trouble.  Noone was home except my husband and son.  Joey was the only one in the house.  I can't believe he thought to take a picture( he is 9 years old).  There is nothing like a 100 pound dog on your kitchen table. :-)

Hoover n/k/a Barney

Hoover n/k/a Barney was adopted by the Kuper family of Colorado.

Update 12/09: Hi sandi it's Louis I tried to send the proof of neuter for hoover but I'm not sure if it went through so let me know if you got it, the procedure went well and he is doing great I will send some pics of him, he still dose'nt look like a bloodhound let me know what you think..  he is a great dog and he has a happy home so all is good hope your holidays are good I look forward to hearing from you.

Hotdog n/k/a Rusty

Hotdog was adopted by the Koeb family of Illinois in November 2008.

Update: As you can see from the pictures, Rusty has made himself right at home and we are so happy about that.  He is great with our daughter and son-in-law's 3 children, Zack, Charlie and Sarah and he enjoyed the visit from our son and daughter-in-law from Florida and their little dog, Gabby.  Rusty is a little bit too rambunctious when new dogs come to our house to visit but we fould that if we calm him down first before anyone enters the house, the meetings go much better.  He is just too playful and loud with his barking which tends to make visiting dogs a little fearful of him. He loves to play fetch and cuddle with us on the couch and bed.  He enjoyed rearranging our Christmas decorations and destroying one of my Christmas ornaments.  He still likes to steal shoes and dish towels if they are not kept out of his reach.  He does great on a leash now and comes when we call "Rusty."  If he knows you are about to sit on the couch, he tries to beat you there and plops down right where you were going to sit.  He has conquered his fear of going in the basement with us.  Now he follows us when we go down there to do laundry or exercise instead of standing at the top of the stairs barking til we came back up.  He still thinks the dogs on television are real and always runs to the front door barking trying to find them.  (Maybe he is expecting to see his old friends he met in Mequon). We are just so happy to have found him on your Website.  We fell in love with him when we first saw his picture on your Website and then our first visit to see him was the icing on the cake.  We never thought we could feel this way again about a dog after having two wonderful Yellow Lab littermates for over 10 years who both died over the past year and a half.  We can't believe Rusty has been with us a month already.  We are so well adjusted to each other.  He follows us around the house all the time.  We consider him our Christmas present.

Update: Thought you'd enjoy these pictures of Rusty on the treadmill.  He yawns while he walks and I don't know why (as you can see in the second picture.) He usually walks at 3 mph but he enjoys 4 mph where he goes into a trot.   He goes on the treadmill everytime we go in the basement.  Now I even put it on for him while I am doing laundry in an adjacent room.  I come back to him after I load the washer and he just looks at me as if to say "Are you going to exercise with me?" We are going to Florida in May to see my son and daughter-in-law and will take our motohome so Rusty can join us.  Even though he enjoys being at my daughter's home with their dog he still likes to chew on things and will wait til maybe next year to leave him with her.  (We would miss him too much anyhow).

Howie n/k/a Teke

Teke was adopted by the Hale/Hogg family of Wyoming in August 2006. He joins a big brother bloodhound to help show him the ropes & keep this active youngster in line. Howie will begin his career in SAR work (he has an unbelievably good nose) with his training as a Canine Good Citizen.

Update 2/08: Teke just returned from a human remains seminar in Utah; he did great.  He's a bit over two years now, has his CGC and should certify in trailing and HR this summer (when the snow melts).  He has never learned to grow a hair coat, so he wears a blanket in the winter when we are walking.  He still gets about three miles of walks a day-one in the morning and one at night.  Of course, he is still a bit of a wildman, but totally irreplaceable.  Attached is a picture of Teke snuggling with his older brother, Herc. (Note cord under Teke-he loves a heating pad to curl up on while sleeping...a bit spoiled, I guess.)

Update 4/08: Congrats to him-he just certified operational in trailing and HR.  Sadly, he was just diagnosed with juvenile catarats, but he has a good opthamologist and if surgery is needed later, we'll get it done.  Otherwise, he is a happy camper-practices, long walks and play time with his BH brother, Herc (from SE BH rescue many many years ago). Still so thankful that you let me have this wonderful guy.

Hubert

Hubert was adopted by the Guidarelli family of Indiana in December 2002. This long-legged, short-eared spunky boy will have a lot of fun playing with Teddy, his new 4-legged brother. MBR thinks their 2 cat cousins are not going to be very happy for the first few weeks as these 2 boys were in cahoots together right from the get-go!

Update 4-04: He is doing great and his health is good. He is a sweetheart and they adore him.

Update: Just thought I’d let you know that Hubert is doing great. He was quiet and relaxed on the 3 hour ride home. He’s the most mellow guy. Teddy and Hubert are getting along very well. Sometimes they get a little wound up playing and sometimes they curl up together on the couch for a nap. The cats excite him a little, but they can hide under the bed when they want to get away and neither dog can bother them there. Hubert goes easily into his crate whenever I ask him and knows to sit so I can take him out on his leash. He had a couple accidents the first 2 days, but I just chalk that up to a new place. He is already going to the door when he wants out. I haven’t started training him on the fence yet. I have to get the flags back up first and I’ll be on vacation next week, so we will start working on that. His only bad habit is jumping on people and we’re working on that too. He’s starting to get the idea that he has to sit to get petted. The most amazing thing is that I’ve only heard him bark twice! Happy holidays to you and your family! If you get a chance could you email me the picture you took of Teddy, Hubert, and me? Thanks!

Huggy n/k/a Daisy Mae

Huggy n/k/a Daisy was adopted by the Boyd family of Illinois in October 2008. The Boyd's lost their beloved bloodhound, Elvis, a short time ago and the house just isn't the same now. Their other dog, a german shepherd, misses her companion terribly. Huggy should be able to keep everyone plenty active & entertained!

Update: Through a family consensus, her new name is Daisy Mae.  We tool her for her remaining vaccinations and she weighs 59 pounds.  Eva, my shepherd and Daisy play all the time.  In fact, Eva started eating again as soon as we brought her home. She has completely settled in here.  She sleeps in our bed between my husband and myself.  She got a quick lesson on not to chase the cats.  One day 3 of them cornered Daisy and started growling and showing their claws.  Now Daisy respects their territory.  She plays constantly and you can tell she has a lot of growing up to do. I've sent you a few pictures.  The little white terrier (Fred) is my mom's dog and is staying with us while she is out of town.  All 3 dogs get along great! We love Daisy Mae dearly, thanks so much, she means the world to us, Susan Boyd

Hunter

Hunter was adopted by the Hartman family of Illinois in March 2002. He joins big sister Beatrice, a mastiff puppy. These 2 high energy puppies will enjoy romping in the backyard and going for walks.

Update: Hi again, Sandi. Hunter is doing just great. He and Beatrice are having a blast together. We've been working on more basic obedience stuff with him at home, and he's picking that up quickly. We take them both to a puppy play class offered near our home and they have a lot of fun there, too. Everyone there calls him "the ref" because if two dogs start barking at each other and making a commotion, he runs over and starts howling at them, like he's breaking things up or something. His hair has all grown back in now. We'll try to send some pictures of him to you soon, too. Thanks for helping us find him -- it's been a perfect match!

Hylda

Hylda was adopted by the Kraft family of Illinois in July 2008. Their previous MBR bloodhound, Henry J, just passed away after a long, beautiful life. Hylda will now have a new family that will love & dote on her, just as she deserves!

Update 10/08: You may very well have adopted out the most perfect bloodhound-to us. Hylda has been an angel since she got here: loving and happy, non-threatening to her housemates, and oh so disciplined. She even let two pieces of pizza sit on the table all evening until 11pm, when she figured she'd help us clean up::)  Our other dogs would never have that kind of discipline. She is a really nice girl  We weighed her and she was 122 lbs on Wednesday.I caught up w/her other owners and now I know why she's on a diet. No more happy meals for this girl. Thanks for the updated sheet. We mailed out your choker and leash today-you'll have it next week sometime. Thanks again for Hylda. She really is the coolest dog!

Update 12/08: We'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2009. Since I've last written, Hylda has met her target weight of 100 lbs and enjoyed swimming several times in the Fox River (see photo). She is truly Thom's girl and always accompanies him to the barn as protection against those killer pygmy goats:) The girl also enjoys presenting dead things to us-like rabbits and other dead critters. Thank you for such a wonderful dog-Hylda is such a joy.

Izzy

Izzy was adopted by the Sanders family of Illinois in April 2007. She will have a new German Shorthair sibling and a 2-legged infant sibling to play with as she grows up.

Jack

Jack has been adopted by the Conway family of New Jersey in August 2004. The Conway's have had bloodhounds before so they’re very aware of the care required and the wonderful things Jack will bring to their family. Jack may be seeing some Search and Rescue work in New Jersey as well. We know how bad they wanted Jack as they drove all the way to Ohio to meet MBR volunteers who were bringing him from Illinois. Jacks a wonderful big boy and the wait was worth it.

Update 1/05: First of all, Jack is doing wonderfully!!! He has settled in very nively and is thriving on all the love and attention we bestow upon him. Of course, he makes it so easy to spoil him since he tries to spend as much time as possible in our laps, giving kisses and trying to clean our ears. He is a terrific "little borther" to Cody, our Lab. They love to play with tug-of-war toys, then snuggle up on their comforter for a nap. We have yet to see any food aggression in Jack - personally, I think that was a crock of ..... He always waits for his food and cookies like a well behaved, but anxious, bloodhound. We cannot for a minute understand anyone giving this lovable goofball up for adoption, but we ARE certainly happy they did. My daughter has set the picture of Dallas as the background for my computer screen, along with a wrap-around message saying "Please Adopt Me!" For now I have sent along a donation instead. Jack and Cody are so content with each other I couldn't see me upsetting their relationship. Plus, they would never let another dog alone. They are far to outgoing for t
hat. You helped give me back a part of my life that I lost when my Beau died, I can never repay you for the joy Jack brings me each and every day...it also helps me accept why Beau died...so a donation when I can is the least I can do to help all of you and support the terrific work you do. Who knows, I may even be able to squeeze another Bloodhound into our lives this year....best wishes for a healthy, happy new year to all of you.

Update 2/08: I'm Jack's Mom.  First, he is doing very well, spoiled to death, pestering me for petting as I type this.

Update 12/08: Please accept this donation in celebration of our 4th year anniversary of adopting Jack. He is still the wonderful love-bug he was when we got him. He and his basset hound sister, Abbey, entertain us with their antics - especially "choir practice". His health continues to be a roller coaster ride. The ever amazing Red Bank Veterinary Hospital staff saved him again. This time it was an especially nasty, and near fatal, case of myasthemia Gravis. He went from the brink of death to his old silly self in a matter of weeks. He is my baby and I can never thank you enough for letting us have him in our lives.

Jackson

Jackson was adopted by the Dreibelbis family of Indiana in August 2006. He has two new 2-legged sisters to help spoil him and a new Mom & Dad to hopefully make sure he doesn't get too spoiled! He'll have to share a little bit with his new kitty cousin. If he gets out of line, the family Macaw will promptly let him know!

Jaime n/k/a Keiffer
Jaime was adopted by the Kakavas family of Illinois.

Update: Jaime's first night went fine, 1st hour was sniffing the house, then he settled downand found his new pillow in the living room, no problem durning the night, he was fine. This morning he has already found his new toys, and exploring some more. Hopefully, if it quits raining, we are going to take him for a walk on the bike path later. He is a sweet big baby, we love him...thanks for the info, we will keep in touch.

Update: Keiffer is doing much better, once in awhile he will still growl or have that mean sounding bark when Kris gets home from work, but not very often. Then he quickly settles down, its like he forgets who he is for a minute, then he warms right back up to Kris with kisses and Kris can give him treats and still feeds him. I think he is feeling comforable and getting into a routine, no issues with the kennel anymore...goes right in. Loves to play fetch and chew on his bones or toys (or Kagan's toys, have to make sure bedroom and bathroom doors stay closed.

Jane

Jane was adopted by the Braun family of Wisconsin in February 2004. She will miss her littermates but not for long. Jane now has 2 new siblings and a kitty cousing to play with!

Update 6/04: Jane went through puppy class. She has her own routine and loves the dog park. They are very lucky to have her and she is absolutely great!

Jasmine

Jasmine was adopted adopted by the Diss family of Illinois in September 2002. She joins 2 other gracefully retired 4 legged dogs, a cat, and 2 horses, and a 2 legged brother to play with. This special girl has come a long way and is doing wonderfully - she brought a lot of joy to her foster home and will bring a lot of joy to her new home as well.

Update: Hello from the Diss family. I have enclosed a few pictures of Jasmin, as you can see, she is great. That's one of our miniature horses in the background. Jasmin was petrified of them at first, now she likes to hang with them. Truth be known, we know she is just waiting to score a fresh horse pie!! But thats our Jasmin! She still gets a can of green beans every night. She has been holding steady at 92-93 lbs. and we can live with that. She is famous at the vet clinic for her "green bean diet".

Update 8/07: Here are a couple of pics by snail mail. Jasmine is great - I can't believe she's 9. Time flies!

Update 8/08: A few pics of Jasmine - she turned 10 in May. She is a little gray-er in the muzzle and likes to sleep, obvious from the photo's! But she still loves to run every night on our farm after dinner.

Update 9/09: Hi Sandi, here's a recent pic of Jasmine. She is doing good. She's 11 now.

Jasmine II
Jasmine II was adopted by the Swoik family of Illinois.

Jasper

Jasper was adopted by the Douglas family of Illinois in March 2003. His new sister, Rosey, was adopted from us last year. They enjoyed her so much, they decided to bring in another one! So now there are 2 basset hounds and 2 bloodhounds to Arrrroooooo at the neighbors. Talk about drool city.....!

Jean Claude

Jean Claude was adopted by the Kingzett family of Ohio in January 2005. He’s such a loveable slug we’re sure he’s already laying on their couch watching the Cleveland Browns games.  Jean will keep the kids busy when he isn’t playing with his other four-legged sibling.  We still love you Jean, even if you are a Browns fan.  Go Dawgs!

Jeb

Jeb was adopted by the Honsberger/Sheriffs family of Canada in December 2008.

Update 8/09: Just a quick update on Jeb! He is doing amazing, loves everyone and is always smiling! He has a girlfriend a little white boxer named daisey they are so cute together, and is always right beside Maggie are other Bloodhound! They enjoy all the other dog's at the dog park but then have play dates at home with daisey and a grey weimeriener named Elvis! Jeb now loves people and now goes right up to women! He is still a little cautious with men but will approach with a little assurance. The men he sees often he is very comfortable and runs right up to them! We love Jeb and He has even stopped chewing, thank you for giving him that extra chance!

Jebediah

Jeb was adopted by the Gaughran family of Missouri in August 2003.

Jed

Jed was adopted by the Schuler family of Illinois in May 2002. He joins a big brother husky/collie/shepard mix, a 2-legged brother and a 2-legged sister. This huge, wonderful boy is enjoying romping in the backyard with his new playmates & cuddling with his new family.

Update: 9/03:He is a great big teddy bear. We have a new dog for him to play with and they are best buds. Jed is playful, gentle, nice. Had some destruction issues but they have been resolved. Is up to 128 lbs.

Update: We have "Jed" who is quite content as you may notice! Jed is a wonderful dog and loves to hang out with our 11 yr. old mix, Patch. They really like to be outside a lot, but as you can see from the photo, Jed also loves his time inside with the family. He does bark somewhat when approaching other dogs and when mailmen, garbagemen, etc. come by, but he is very quiet in the house.

We have taken him to 2 sessions of obedience classes and when he's with dogs in there, he's perfectly behaved (never barks!). He also is quite a conversation piece as the other dog owners are fascinated by him! They all love his name & wrinkles.

Jed continues to behave very kindly to all people (really likes kids) and to other dogs when people let us approach. If he would just pipe down so they wouldn't think he's a monster!

He filled out nicely - was borderline thin when we got him - but has since gained about 20 lbs and looks great. We think he is such a handsome hound!

As winter is upon us and we've had some some, Jed & Patch have enjoyed romping in that, as well as dodging snowballs from the kids! We've gotten used to the slobber and drool; we just keep a roll of paper towels handly and forewarn visitors about getting "slimed"!

Jed is a great companion for all and we just wanted to send you this latest update to let you know that and to wish you continued luck in placing these special dogs in good homes.

Jed IV

Jed was adopted by the Dickinson/Schliske family of Colorado. This lovely young family was so excited to meet Jed! Jed wound up following us around like a puppy (har har) the whole time they were here visiting. Jed will be the pampered only pet and will love every minute of it!

Update 8/08:

Thank you for all the years of dedication to the Midwest Bloodhound Rescue if it wasn’t for your help and efforts we wouldn’t have such a wonderful Bloodhound. Jed IV aka Burroughs the Bloodhound is the most wonderful dog.  He keeps us laughing and puts a smile on everyone’s face!  We love him. He had a rough year last year when he started having seizures but we have him on medication and cross our fingers he hasn’t had a seizure in 6months!  Woo hoo.  Other than that he has had a very healthy life with us! He is getting older and a little grey but that doesn’t keep him from enjoying life and walks!  His nose gets him into trouble here and there because he just can’t resist counter surfing because of the delicious smells coming from the kitchen.  He loves to drink coffee……..when I turn my back he slurps my coffee right up.  But who can blame the guy! He has a new sister, Tuesday who is part Coonhound/Doberman and she just loves cuddling with him.  We also have a cat, Einstein that Burroughs would just love to be best friends with but Einstein just won’t let him. We thought we would send a few pictures and we wanted to thank you for all of your hard work!

Jelly Bean

Jelly Bean was adopted by the Stancel family of Ohio in August 2004.

Jersey

Jersey was adopted by the Bannerman family of Illinois in January 2002. See How she has grown!!! They started off fostering this sweet little girl but she quickly became the twinkle in her new Daddy's eye. A little helpful mothering from big sister Ruby (above bloodhound) didn't hurt either.Sister Cosmo & Brother Moose aren't quite so taken with the new girl but they'll warm up in no time.

Jesse

Jesse was adopted by Robert and Ruth Fisk of Lake Odessa, Michigan, in August 2002. The Fisk's chose to purposefully pay the adoption donation with a bad check. The District Court of Michigan awarded MBR $952 in fees and possession of the dog. Mr. Fisk, who is/was a paramedic in Lake Odessa, has chosen to hide Jesse from us rather than obey the court's order. If anyone sees this man or this dog, please contact MBR and the local authorities immediately!

Jethro n/k/a Clyde

Jethro was adopted by the Gorny family of Wisconsin in February 2008. He'll be the only "kid" at the house but will have seven adult siblings to come visit him. He also has a new little sister to play with, a bloodhound/coonhound mix.

Update 3/08: Things are going great. He has become very attached to a rubber chicken. He loves to run and play with it. Sometime crashes into things. Okay most of the time crashes into things. He has brought new life to our house. The neighbors and us love to watch him run and play in the snow. Trying to catch snowballs that just disappear. The big boy is getting alot of attention from the family. Starting to settle in and feeling like he is apart of us. Stella and Clyde came to visit me at my work. Everyone fell in love with him. My boss invited him back to spend the day. He brings his dog Sam everyday. Dave cleaned the back of our Suburban, Clyde  (Jethro)  enjoys  riding back there. Stella rides in the back seat. They both check on each other through their trip. They are starting to get very close. Thank you for letting us have him in our family.

Update: One year has passed. Things are great. Clyde feels at home now. He joins us in bed every night. Thou he doesn't stay there all night, Clyde and Stella start there every night. Clyde and my grandson have become buddies. I think it might have something to do with the extra treatment he gets or is it the extra treats. With Clyde around, never a dull moment!

Jett n/k/a Buford

Jett was adopted by the Ciyou/VanWinkle family of Indiana in June 2008. He will be the pampered only dog in his new home so he'll gets lots & lots of love & attention!

Update 6/08: Well, Jett or new name "Buford" is truly adorable. He sat on my lap the whole drive home, but was still pretty timid. He actually wet on my leg after about 4 hours of laying on my lap. We have to pick him up to get him in and out of the car. He would not walk up or down the wood steps last night, so Bryan has been carrying him. He seems to want to burrow himself under a bush or in a corner. He did not pee until a little today, and he has had about 3 bowls of water. He has not eaten anything. I have had a bowl of food in front of him since about 4:00 yesterday, and have tried to hand feed him, and nothing. Should I be concerned? Do I need to mix water with the food? He did sleep soundly last night, next to us. We made him a bed in a corner about 2 feet from our bed.  We are extremely gentle with him and are very sensitive to his needs. He played/layed outside for about 4 hours this morning, and now he is in his new home, in a corner, under a table in his room.We made a comfy bed for him.

Update 10/08: It has been 3 weeks now and you would be amazed at Buford's progress. He has really come out of shell. He will always be timid, but a new trait appears from him every day! It is so fun to see and watch him develop into the dog he always wanted to be. He likes to hide things under his bed! This I find to be very funny. We have a place for him inside under a table in the laundry room with a thick, large bed he can stretch out on. This is on a slate floor that he does not mind to walk on! Outside we have a shed/ structure that has another bed for him. He enjoys lounging in there during the day. He is eating and playing and doing well. He is truly the sweetest dog I have ever known. He does what he is told and is a very quick learner. Everything just seems to come natural to him. He still has some fears, but we are making huge progress! My family and I truly love Buford and could not ask for a kinder, more gentle bloodhound. I see why you dedicate your life to these animals. Thank you so much for bringing Buford into our life.

Update: Sandi, I started Buford at daycare yesterday. I can watch him play from the internet. He had a really good time interacting with other dogs. He is so adoable!

Joe

Joe was adopted by the Bylow family of Illinois in October 2004.

Joe-Bob

Joe-Bob was adopted by the Poepping family of Minnesota in July 2002.

Update: Haven't heard anything from you for awhile so thought I'd drop you a note. Things are going well. I think JB is starting to mellow a bit. He is not nearly as "hyper" as he was, doesn't jump and bite like he used to. He loves to play-especially wrestling with Gary and has totally claimed the back yard as his own domain. While he doesn't eat as much as you might think, he has filled out to around 110lbs.
Seems to be healthy as a horse except for the chronic ear infections. I manage to keep them controlled by routinely using drops 2-3 times/week and daily cleaning-which he hates. My other dog tolerates him and the cats are still basement dwellers unless JB is outside. We've come a long way since last summer---and so has he. We love him to death and I can't even remember what life was like without him-slobber and all.

Joey

Joey was adopted by the Knanishu family of Illinois in May 2004. He will be the spoiled only little boy in his new home, which is probably a good thing! It means more time for his new Mom to catch him in his tricks and teach him how to behave like a good little boy. It also means that he gets all the lovin'!

Jolene n/k/a Maggie

Jolene was adopted by the Mounts family of Indiana in September 2005. She joins big sister Debbie n/k/a Edie (another bloodhound previously adopted from MBR) and several other 4-legged pals.

Update: Jolene/Maggie is working out so well.  We can no longer see her hip bones, and she weighed in at 53 pounds at the vet today.  I don’t know how any of you let go of her . . . she is so very quiet and loyal. She is at the vet’s tonight and I wanted to share this story with you from this afternoon. . .  three of our kanine kids needed routine shots, and Maggie was to have a blood test today and to be spayed tomorrow.  We were talking with Lisa Banker, D.V.M. about Maggie and her history, and mentioned that she has separation anxiety . . . that they might need to reassure her this afternoon and evening. I was standing there, holding Zak’s leash, looked down at him, and thought “why not?”  I asked Lisa if Zak could stay with Maggie to help her and she said . . . neat idea.  Yes of course!  That will really help Maggie a lot.  So tonight Zak is being a hero/babysitter/and support. After the surgery, he can’t be in the same kennel, of course, but he can be next door so they can see each other.  Now isn’t that special???  Lisa is such a good, big hearted, loving vet.  She actually is the daughter of our first vet who has now retired.  We have known Lisa since she was a young girl.  (We will have to do something special for Zak when he comes home, too.  He will be quite the hero, and I would guess that this will bond them even more than what they have already done.) Dr. Banker said that she saw her first “Katrina” victim, and the dog was in very sad shape.  Apparently stray dogs are picked up and taken to some shelter . . . many have heartworm, haven’t had good care in the way of shots, and of course in that environment, there are many fleas, tics.  And all of the dogs are probably infecting the ones who don’t have heartworm, yet.  Lisa said that the care of the dogs is beyond imagination, and that is only a small part of the horror!  The people are much worse off,. . . it is beyond awful down there. Thank you again, Sandi, for giving us Maggie. You are such a good, big hearted, generous person and do such good work with the dogs.  Once again I wish I was 30 years younger and could help in such an endeavor but the energy lacks, so I am your cheering team.  God Bless you

Judy n/k/a Ally

Judy was adopted by the Fishburn family of Illinois in February 2004. Her new Golden Retriever older brother will enjoy playing "his" new puppy. That is when Judy's 2-legged siblings let him have a turn!

Update: Hi Sandy and Samantha: Just wanted to let you know Judy, now christened Ally after much debate, is doing great. She has the sweetest disposition, is acclimating well, and has an adoring fan club, except for maybe Max. Max, the golden retriever, is a little put out that she wants to chew on his tail and cuddle up with him. The girls were very upset when he growled at Ally as she tormented him, but I explained (I hope correctly) that he has to do that to teach her some manners. He wouldn't harm her in any way.

In fact, our rabbit seemed to sense that from the beginning. She's never been afraid of him and will climb right over top of him if he's in her way. She's much more worried about Ally, though. Ally would really like to chew on her ears, so the bunny thumps her hind feet and does a little kangaroo punch that scares both of them. I can't send a video, but I'll try sending a picture of Max and Ally. Thank you again. We're really enjoying her.

Katey

Katey was adopted by the Raymond family of Illinois in March 2008. She is a shy but loving lab mix and her new family is thrilled to have her join their family. Katey will be the spoiled only pup in the house but has two new 2-legged siblings to play with.

Update: Thanks so much.  She is doing great and getting slowly over her shyness and slowly learning the housebreaking.  Such a sweet girl, we love her.

Kia

Kia was adopted by the Spirek family of Illinois in January 2005. She joins big "little" sister, a mini-doxie.

Keelee n/k/a Duchess

Keelee n/k/a Duchess was adopted with her sister Kylee in 2006. In December 2010, she was found as a stray by a veterinarian. Turns out her adopter had given her away to someone else, who allowed her to roam without reclaiming her. So, Duchess came back to MBR. Duchess was adopted by the Koeb family in February 2010. The Koeb's had previously adopted "Hotdog" from MBR.

Kylee

The "sisters" were both adopted by the Gray family from Michigan in August 2006. These two very lucky and very spoiled sisters will enjoy a life together playing with their new 2-legged brother & sister. Besides a new loving Mom (that is sooooo excited to have 2 more "kids"), they will also have a new loving Grandma that is also very excited to have new "grandkids". Kylee & Keelee joining the home fulfills their new Mom's desire to have a bloodhound, which she has had since she was 5 years old and not able to fulfill before now!

Update 12/09: See Keelee's info above.

Lady

Lady was adopted by the Borsa family of Illinios in August 2003. This lovely "lady" will enjoy being the pampered only dog by her new mom, dad and 2-legged brother.

Update 2004: HI FELLOW BLOODHOUND FAMILIES!! It's just about a year since we welcomed Lady-Ladybug-to us, to our family. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She lives with us in the suburbs, and its been interesting to say the least, to our neighbors. She's not a big howler but she will howl when people pass by without taking time to pet her, and tell her what a pretty girl she is. It's been funny realizing how many people don't even know what a hound is. So we've educated the neighborhood, and she has lots of new friends. She is very spoiled, the princess that is, and very much loved. She has adoring grandparents who have two big chocolate lab boys-Murphy and Dudley. Although she is a very laid back girl-she let's the boys know she is the princess. A single howl has them in line. She enjoys walking through the neighborhood and visiting all her new people, feline and canine friends.

Larry n/k/a Eddie

Larry was adopted by the Million family of Illinois in January 2004. Larry was the last of the "3 Stooges" to go home but I'm sure he didn't mind! He will now get to play with his new sister, Molly - a black lab mix, in his new yard. He even has a new name to go with all this newness - Eddie!

Update 7/04: He's doing wonderful! He's a great dog that likes to sleep with Mom & Dad. Larry is in wonderful health and really playful.

Laser

Laser was adopted by the Weeks family of Illinois in June 2004. He was born deaf but you don't need hearing to recognize a good belly rub! This cuddly boy will enjoy lounging with his new sisters. He will have to share some belly rubs with his new Basset sister, though.

Update: Hi Sandi, Just wanted to let you know things are going good with Laser. We LOVE him, he has already became part of our family. On the weekends the girls and I curl up in the waterbed and watch T.V. with Laser and Sophie. During the week when I have to work it is just me and Laser and Sophie still a bed full. WE ABSOLUTLY LOVE HIM, and I think he likes us too. THANKYOU

Laura n/k/a Cookie

Laura was adopted by the Spencer family of Illinois in January 2003. She was last seen smiling from ear to ear at her new brother. They seemed to bond instantly. What a great pair they’ll make with dogs, cats, brothers, sisters and her new mom and dad. She’ll sure be missed by her foster family.

Leathan n/k/a Bogey

Leathan was adopted by the Kelly family of Florida in May 2009.

Update: I wanted to let you know that Leathan (Bogey) is great and he has been neutared. Thank you for your the work you do. Bogey is the best dog I could hope for.
Lefty

Lefty was adopted by the Jordan family of Pennsylvania in March 2009.

Update: So sorry we have not gotten back to you prior to this, but we wanted to let you know that we are really enjoying Lefty and Lucy (AKA Sidda). Lefty is doing great, his first month was tough with some bowel issues, however with our vets help we got him straightened out. Lucy is a ball of energy and she keeps Lefty busy all of the time. They had some food and attention aggression issues in the beginning, but both are much better at this point. We still feed them separately, but maybe some day we will be able to change that. Lucy has gained a few pounds and she is very healthy and spirited !! We have taken them on family vacations and they have loved all of the attention. Every evening after dinner they have a wrestling match that goes on for quite a while and they exert a lot of energy, running and tackling one another. Since we have opened the pool, we have found out that Lefty enjoys swimming. He fell in the pool originally and I coached him to swim over to the steps and climb out. Since then, he walks down the steps and swims around a little bit in the shallow end. Lucy steps in the top step and sits her butt on the deck and cools off that way. I’m not sure she is going to become a swimmer, but we will take our time with letting her find out.  They both have their favorite spots on the couch, late in the evening when it’s time to settle down. I think they both have settled in very nicely here and we are thrilled that we have them both.

Leo n/k/a Murphy

Murphy was adopted by the Shelhamer's of Illinois in September 2004. He joins 4-legged siblings Charlie and Spooky. Word has it that Murphy and Charlie are BEST FRIENDS!

Lexi n/k/a
Orphan Annie

Annie was adopted by the Boyle family of Kentucky in September 2005. She joins two big brothers, Jugger the senior Black Lab and Useless (I love that name for a bloodhound!) the Bloodhound. We have no doubt that Annie will soon rule the roost over the two boys!

Lexi II

Lexi was adopted by the Meyer family of Illinois in December 2005. The Meyers adopted Molly in 2002. Molly's canine sibling recently passed away. Molly and her family were lonely so they decided to bring in another bloodhound. Lexi II will have lots of fun playing with Molly and getting loved on by her new 2-legged siblings.

Update 10/09: Just wanted to update you all on Rebel, he is doing really good.  Jamie is now roller blading with him and she can barly keep up with him.  He now thinks he has to sleep on the beds, which is Jamie doing, that is what she wanted in the first place and now he hogs her bed.  He like to lay on your lap also.  Him and Lexie get along great, they run around in the back yard like crazy dogs!  I have attached a couple of pictures.  I tell you Rebel is such a baby, he dosen't do the stealing thing any more but counter surfing is still a habit of his and Lexie also.  What can you do with dogs that big, they see it, they smell it, they want it!!!  We love them anyway!!  We'll talk to ya soon.

Libby

Libby was adopted by the Grimes family of Indiana. This unlucky/lucky girl was recovering from heartworm treatment and, during a brief jaunt outside, escaped. She was found by the Grimes family and they fell in love with her. Libby readily accepted all the Chinese Cresteds in the household and has even taken to sleeping curled up with them.

Lillian

Lillian was adopted by the Bull/Ciotti family of Michigan in March 2007. She joins big sister, Bauer, who is a slightly older bloodhound that was adopted from MBR. The two girls will have a blast playing together and Lillian will love her new family!

Update: Love her!  Can't believe how well she has acclimate to our home and giving Bauer heck all day!  Bauer is great with her, until she wants to nap.  Then Bauer puts an end to her shenanigans!Anyways ... just wanted to update you on a few things about Lillian. Found that she had hookworms (might want to have blabs and Melina checked out!) ... and she also has a bit of kidney issues (maybe from the beer at the Frat house?! he,he,he). The vet said that we will just watch her blood/urine for the next 6 months and see what develops ... Otherwise ... she's amazing.  She has already broken a harness while walking and she has wormed her way into everyone's heart that she meets! The kids at school ask about her EVERY DAY!  She came to school and became an instant hit!

Update: Yes, Lillian and Bauer are happily romping around driving my husband crazy in the backyard!  He is planting tomatoes and herbs ... and they are helping to dig them back up! (picture of Bauer & family attached, but as you are well aware, the more "kids" the less pictures of the younger ones!  Lillian does have pictures, but just not downloaded.)

Lillie

Lillie has been adopted by West Family of Kentucky in March 2005.  Lillie immediately took to them with an open heart as she does to everyone she meets. The West’s are originally from England and Lillie will represent a little bit of home as bloodhounds were very popular with English Royalty.  We’re sure they will treat her like royalty , which she richly deserves.

Lily

Lily was adopted by the Olvera family of Illinois in October 2007. She will be the very loved & pampered only pooch in the house. Her new 2-legged brother & sister and thrilled to have a new pooch to walk and play with. Mom & Dad were pretty excited too!

Lily II

Lily was adopted by the Fisher family of Minnesota in February 2005. She is a big, beautiful & bold girl who will enjoy romping in the northwoods with her new family!

Update: Hi Sandy - Just wanted to let you know that we had an uneventful trip home.   Lily is a very good traveler which is a good thing cause I drove a total of 1500 miles in two days.   I was getting a little concerned cause she didn't eat much and really didn't go to the bathroom very much at first either.  Do you know did they walk her or was her yard fenced.  She rarely will go if she is on the leash. Thanks a bunch we just love her!!!

Little GirL n/k/a Sakota

Little Girl was adopted by the Evola family of Illinois in June 2004. Little Girl was one of the lucky bloodhounds who got loose and was found by a loving person. This person took care of her while searching for her owner. Her original owner never appeared so her "rescuer" turned to MBR. After some additional socialization, some vet work and lots of love, Little Girl is now in her "forever" home!

Little Man a/k/a Rudy

Rudy was turned in by his owners who fell on financial hard times. This playful pup was adopted by the Dressel family of Illinois in July 2001. His new big brother, William, is a HUGE Schuler boy who was not real happy at first about having a puppy hanging on his ears! He's discovered its kinda fun after all. When not playing with William, he enjoys sleeping on one of the many teenagers visiting him.

UPDATE 9/03: Little Man n/k/a Rudy has grown into a big, healthy boy who still enjoys playing with his big bloodhound brother.

Lizzie

Lizzie was adopted by the Atamaniuk family of Alberta, Canada, in June 2003. This lovely petite girl will enjoy romping in the north woods with her new Coonhound brother and family.

Loretta

Loretta was adopted by the Andrews family of Illinois in August 2003. This beautiful, loving puppy will enjoy playing with her new big sister, a Lab, who has been missing her Rottie brother (passed away due to cancer). Loretta should help keep her quite entertained!

Louie

Louie was adopted by the Echele family of Illinois in August 2003. Louie is everything a bloodhound puppy should be - active, active, active! He will enjoy burning some of that energy with his new big bro, Barkley the Beagle.

Lucy n/k/a Lady

Lucy was adopted by a correctional facility in Indiana in February 2003. This lovely girl was everything a person would want in a bloodhound and also every reason why a person wouldn't want one! She joins a well trained team of professional dogs and their trainers to help serve the safety of the public. Lucy is also the only lucky dog to have her success story picture with 4 handsome men! (Maybe the next time her trainers visit us they will realize you DON'T have to go through Wisconsin in order to get from Indiana to Illinois!)

Update 12-04: Lady a/k/a Lu-Spazz is doing very well. She gets along well with everyone and everything. She has passed her Novice Certification and is currently working on her second one.

Update: Well it has been a while so I thought I would give you an update on the progress lucy has made. Lucy has adapted very well to her new home, she has become an outstanding trailer and a major asset to our team. Lucy has been on one real man hunt and she did fantastic. Lucy has aquired her first certification and is working on her second and we could not be more proud of her. I want to thank you for introducing her to us we love her dearly. Due to her sucess I am very interested in getting another bloodhound from you soon and I would encurage anyone interested in adopting a bloodhound to contact you before going anywhere else.

Lucy III

Lucy was adopted by Rerko family in Ohio in July 2004. She has a new brother Basset "Jack", that is still barking at Mom for being gone so long to go it Lucy, and Lucy for being there.. Lucy made up to her new Dad for belly rubs already..

Update: Thanks for the picture of Lucy and me. She is making herself at home and checking everything out. Jack has decided that she can stay and has stopped barking at me. I have more dog love than I can handle. Every time I get for any reason I have two dogs at my side. Like I have said before, God gave us two hands so we can pet two dogs at a time. She has bonded with me and excepted me as mom. Her personality has started to show through and she is just to precious. She found some of the dog toys that are all over the house and has stared to play with them. She has checked out the back yard and has started to feel comfortable in walking around by herself. I thank you so much for choosing me to take this wonderful dog. I think everything will work out just fine. I forgot to ask you about her heart worm medication. What does she take and when was her last medication? Jack takes Heatguard and I use Frontline for flees. Is there any other meds or anything else I should know? Send the license to the Mt. Vernon address. We will have our mail foward to the new address around the middle of August. Lucy can sleep with me and Jack, or any place she feels comfortable. This is her house and since she thinks she is such a princess I will let her make up her own mind. LOL I just knew this was going to be a great match!

Luke n/k/a Henry

Well, if bloodhounds were humans, it'd be the Dixon Family. As of June 2002, Luke has a happy home. They really bonded and no doubt you could pry them apart with a crowbar. Luke is enrolled in obedience classes, they want to look into a mantrailing club, Luke gets to go to agricultural high school where his new mom works. They have great critters like pigs, llamas, cows; so Luke gets interesting smells. His new mom is going to take Luke on walk and lots of places in the car because she likes company. The Dixons are sending adoption announcements out to all their friends. Luke's new mom is interested in doing transport and maybe rescue for MBR. I'm thinking just maybe she might like a companion for the Lukester, maybe another young male.......

Lulu

Lulu was adopted by the Mesick/Friend family of Chicago in February 2007. This goofy girl will be the pampered only pooch for a little while and then she will probably be joined by a little 4-legged brother. Even though she is going to live in the big city, she will have lots of other pooches to play with and will also enjoy going for walks by the lake and bike riding with her family.

Update: We hope you are well!  Thanks for your newsletter - we are often checking your website to see what's new, and telling friends about it.  Does your stepping down mean you will no longer have a house of foster hounds? Lulu is the most amazing love.  We cannot believe our luck to have her!  Brent always says, "Lulu" means love.  I think you will get a kick that she has her own "webpage" - check it out! http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/b/bloodhoundphotos7 Also attached are five photos that are not on the website. We are very sorry we missed the pet expo.  Without going into too many details, we were in a bit of a whirlwing when my dad suffered a mild heart attack, and I lost track of the email inviting us to sign up for it.  Then we found it too late to participate.Lulu is happy, and has recently been swimming with us in Lake Michigan.  At first she seemed baffled and startled by the moving water - and now she is swimming up to her neck after balls.  She does all of this on leash, by the way, with us in the water with her!  (dogs are allowed on the beach up until 9:00 am ) She goes on 4 walks a day and jogs the mile with me to the fedex box several times each week.  (Thanks to Lulu, I have gotten back in shape with our jogs and I have lost weight!) She is so popular, the whole neighborhood knows her.  She visits with every dog she sees and is such a character and personality.  People stop their cars to meet or ask about her.  She never bays inside, but out on the field, she calls after dogs she wants to go meet, so off we go, jogging zig zagging across the fields.  She investigates alleys and snoops our squirrels and cries for them. She has completed an 8-week basic obedience class and we take her to doggie socials on Saturdays, in a big gym where it's safe for her to go off leash. Healthwise, she put on weight so that we can no longer see her ribs (she went from 85 to 105, but you'll see in the photos that she still has her trim waist!), and her coat came in nicely after her flea dermatitis.  She got a second anti-itch steroid shot in March, but when that wore off, her itching returned and her coat declined again.  So, not wanting to just treat the symptom, we've been investigating whether her allergies are more than to fleas.  First, the vet ruled out skinmites/mange with a scratch test, and now she is on a limited "duck and potatoes" diet to see if after two months on that, the itching doesn't subside.  If that doesn't work, we'll look at a blood-panel allergy testing and/or skin allergy testing - the latter a whole day ordeal while sedated.  However, happily, the new diet is bringing improved coat again and itching is declining, though gradually - hopefully this will do the trick and we won't have to escalate to the next steps. The project of calming down her itching delayed our searching for a 4-legged companion for her, but we've been watching petfinder, and even took her to meet a few doggies who needed homes.  She liked a dog named Scruffy (his picture is on PawsChicago), but he was too much of a couch potato for Brent.  Then we met Brady the adolescent Bloodhound at Heartland Animal Rescue, and it was hilarious to hear them howl together, but Lulu spent the whole visit scolding him for having only one thing on his mind! In March or April, Lulu had alot of the behaviors of heat, but no blood.  We jogged her over to her vet who said: wait to see blood - if it happens, we won't miss it.  Well, in June it did happen - oh boy!   Now I wonder if that faint belly scar she has was from a ceasarian?   I speculate that if she had been used for breeding, and had caused the breeder the cost of a ceasarian, or had chronic allergies, she may have come to be considered a liability to the breeder, who then passed her on, or cared for her less?  We wonder about her mysterious pre-MBR life. In any case, we are arranging for her to be spayed in early July, and are researching types of spaying and anesthesia, since you mentioned that hounds are sensitive to the drugs.  I like that our vet removes only ovaries instead of a complete hyserectomy.  We are, of course, grateful for any feedback you may have regarding Lulu hound health & behavior. We adore Lulu and can't thank you enough for all of your help with her adoption with us, and for bringing her into our family.  Please give us a call when you plan be in the northside of Chicago , so you can visit - Lulu would love to see you.

Update: I'll send a full update and film clips and recent photos soon of Lulu in Chicago.  She's doing great and just unbelievably wonderful, and after being with us 6 months, she got a sister-dog, Agnes Pooch.  Attached is the clan.  People stop their cars to meet Lulu and as my friend wrote in a mailed letter to Lulu after meeting her, "Oh, your folds, your folds..." She loved diving after balls into the lake, swimming with us on her 25-foot long-lead, and exploring the nature trails with us last summer.

Lulu II n/k/a Ellie

Lulu II was adopted by the Raines family of Illinois. She joins big brother, Gator, who was also from MBR.

Update 8/08: Lulu came into our lives as we did into hers, with no expectations only unconditional love to be given and received. In the matter of minutes she melted into our hearts (and of course Gators!) She is full of love and gentleness and is deserving of nothing less. Thank you for all you have done for "Lulu" and all the other just like her. We have decided to name her "Ellie" and she and Gator like to snooze in the spare bedroom as well as the rest of the house! We will send periodic updates as Ellie becomes more acquainted with her new surroundings.

Lupo

Lupo was adopted by the Lachowski family of Illinois in September 2004.
