Success Stories M-R

Mabelline

Mabelline was adopted by her foster family, the Black's of Indiana in May 2002. This spunky girl found the attention she was craving and the big back yard she needed at her foster home. In return, her foster mom has found a new buddy for life. A lot of us (including Mabel) knew it was a perfect match between them two before the foster mom did!

Update 5/03: Well, I finally got a new computer, so I can send a picture of Mabelline. If it doesn't turn out, then I'll do it again. Yesterday was our anniversary! Mabelline has been here for 1 year! Can't believe it, seems longer in some ways and not as long in others. I think we have finally accepted each others bad habits, well-- maybe---- sometimes! She still has not chewed up that brown bear she brought with her. I think, I will know that she accepts this as her "real" home when she does! She destroys other stuffed animals in a matter of minutes, but not that brown bear. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I couldn't wait to get her to Dr. Barton's so she could get her tag. She only needs the rabies every 3 years. Indiana changed the laws, used to be every year. Nevada was every 2. Let me know if you need help with a transport or someone needs a home for a little while. I'm laid off again and could help.

Update: Mabelline's adoptive home was forced to return her to MBR for health reasons.

Update: Mabelline was adopted by the Hanson family of Illinois. She will be the pampered only pooch and her new 2-legged sister plans on training her for therapy work. Since Mabel lives to be petted and adored by 2-legged creatures, she should quite enjoy her new line of "work".

Mac

Mac was adopted by the Baker family of Michigan in May 2006. He will be the pampered only pooch of this young family that will hopefully have the energy to keep up with this active youngster!

Macy

Macy has been adopted by the Carlton/Brulport family of Wisconsin in December 2004. This lucky girl has cheated death several times already and now has a loving family who understands her "quirks". She has two 2-legged siblings to play with and a bloodhound brother to pester.

Maddie

Maddie was adopted by the Jones family of Indiana in February 2003. This very spunky and alert girl will have three 2-legged brothers to help keep her busy. As their only pet, she will get all the love and attention she needs!

Maggie III n/k/a Ruby

Maggie n/k/a Ruby was adopted by the Phillips family of Michigan in May 2002. This loving, rambunctious girl will be the lucky recipient of all the attention in her new home as she will be the only dog. She will also enjoy romping in her new backyard and going swimming in the lake behind her new house!

Update 10/03: She is a good girl. She doesn't get along with other dogs too well but has great energy. Ruby is wonderful for our family.

Maggie IV

Maggie has been adopted by the Williams family of Indiana in July 2004. She has several new family members including a couple of small kids of the human kind and a five year old basset hound. Maggie basically is Mr. Williams' own personal dog and companion but were sure she’ll be spoiled by the whole family. With a couple small kids and a basset at least she’ll get lots of time to play.

Magoo a/k/a Moonie

Moonie was adopted by the Masters family of Missouri in August 2003. He will be their pampered (ya, we know, it looks like he's already been pampered too much) only pet. Magoo will get lots and lots of loving and play time with his FOUR new 2-legged sisters

Maisey n/k/a Molly

Molly was adopted by the O'Connor family of Texas in January 2002. Her new family tragically lost their previous puppy to a genetic deficiency at the tender age of 6 mos. But, they missed those floppy ears so much, they decided to try again. Molly spent the her first night with her new family with her paws on her Mom's face. She's not real sure what to make of the 11 doxies who share her home but we're sure she will discover that they are a lot of fun to play with!

Update: I was telling Sandi earlier today that we've had our first snow of the year down here, and we took the babies out to play in it. Zander has evidently never seen snow before; he thought romping around in it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. It doesn't matter how cold it is out there-- Miss Molly is going to plunk herself in the creeks to go
wading. Poor baby got frostsicle toes from the water. She jumped into the back of the Explorer and buried her feet in the quilt I keep spread out on the back seat. Now she's unconscious on the sofa, but she'll be in the bed with the electric mattress pad as soon as I stand up.

I know this kind of snow isn't much compared to what y'all get slammed with up there, but it sure is rare down here. We usually get ice down here instead of snow. Too bad it's already gone, because I would've liked to go tromping around in it tomorrow. Only problem is that Don fell while he was shooting these shots, and he's torn up his ankle pretty good. It's swollen like a tennis ball now, and he's gimping around here and grumbling and grunting. To top it all off, our search beeper just went off, so we were thinking we're headed out for a search, but it looks like the page is coming back as a bad number. It'd be the pits to try to drag him out tonight, even if he is the incident commander and gets to sit his kiester in a nice, warm vehicle while poor Miss Molly and I are dragging thru the muck and the mud....

Maisey II

Maisey II was adopted by the Larue family of Indiana in December 2003. This beautiful liver & tan girl was pulled from a shelter by another rescue group and mis-placed into a loving but inappropriate home. After trying to make it work for a year, they turned to MBR. After evaluation of Maisey II, MBR thinks that she will fit very well in her new home. Maisey will have a labrador sibling to play with, two kitty cousins to ignore and 5 older children (yikes!) to love on her. As a matter of fact, one of her new sisters has already claimed her as "HERS"!

Malina n/k/a Genna

Malina was adopted by the Horka family of Iowa in November 2007. Malina came to MBR pregnant and, on 1/18/07, gave birth to 17 healthy puppies. She was a wonderful mother but what about a forever home for Malina? She needed someone very special that would take the time to help Malina feel safe & teach her how to be a family pet. She has found that love & security with her new Mom and 4-legged older brother.

Update 11/07: We made it home by about 3:00. Rest stop break and a quick bite at KFC drive through along the way. Genna/Malina was a very good traveler. (I removed the "squad car grate" this afternoon. She can ride in the back seat from now on.) She and Pat did fine on meeting. Genna is following in Maxie's tradidition of ignoring Pat with one exception this evening. Genna doesn't always eat her treats up when I tuck her into her kennel and Patrick noticed that opportunity. He was in cleaning up and I got a phone call. Before I could stop her from going to her "room", she discovered Paddy-O stuffing his face in there and there were a few words. Genna could have totally made him into mince meat, but she stopped. I got her to come to the kitchen for some turkey and we got through that moment. Later I asked Pat to reflect and tell me what he learned--and he could think of absolutely nothing darn his greedy little hide. (see attached picture--notice the "attitude"--bless his pointy little ears). We've had lots of walks--three today. She does enjoy them and we've seen and heard that there are many new 4 legged friends for her to meet in the neighborhood. So far, we've taken it easy about socializing this first couple of days. Last night I'd switched to a short lead from that Caesar Milan collar and let her out in the yard...well that proved to be really interesting. She was oh so clever to keep the lead away so I couldn't get hold of it and it took a very long time and several pieces of turkey to finally get her close and busy enough to get hold of her harness. She let me know that it isn't a good idea to get her into a corner. We finally got inside, warmed up and settled down awhile before I attempted to show her to her "room". She would only go into the kitchen and out through dining room and porch to go outside. It took me a little while to figure out she needed a blanket because she just primly sat on the little rug and didn't lay down until I got the blanket out for her. (see attached picture) I finally just had to pull her enough to get her going (my she has good brakes) and into the doorway to my room where she saw the kennel and in she went. She loves it and is looking for pictures to hang to liven up the interior decor. Genna then really relaxed and slept well until morning. Her kennel is definitely a refuge for her. Genna is rapidly developing an addiction for back rubs. She comes to me when I sit in the dining room and lets me pet, rub ears, scratch her butt. Twice she has turned and presented her back for a back rub and really seems to be enjoying them totally. So, we're making progress...learning about each other and learning to love each other. I can't wait for the day when Genna feels really secure and happy here and I don't see her fears overcoming her ability to eat with abandon and have some good fun. Her tail was up in a beautiful bloodhound high curve as we headed back from our last walk earlier this evening. Thanks for your trust in me to give her what she needs. She is already giving me comfort as I adjust to life without my Max-ster. Judie

Update 12/1/07: We're learning new things about each other every day. Genna is doing well. She absolutely loves her "room" or kennel, but is beginning to come out on her own to be with me a bit. She loves walks. We went this morning during the ice storm. I put on my Yak-Trax to keep me from falling down and off we went. The weather seemed to energize her and I was trying to keep up. Did fairly well until she spotted a squirrel and thought she'd go after it. I explained it would be much more fun not to have to drag me around so chasing squirrels will be an in the back yard activity, I hope. We made it back home safely and she is taking it easy right now. I have been wondering if she can go up and down stairs. It looks like she may be able to. She started down the first step to the basement and thought about it, but decided to wait. I hope she will go down on her own so she can have a bath whenever we have a nice warm day--still holding out hope for a 60s day, though I am getting a little worried that winter may be getting the upper hand darn it. We did go for first visit to the vet to see about something to treat her ears. Once we got inside all went well. We didn't try to do anything, no weight, no hands on her by vet until we were almost ready to leave and then she just petted her and held her paw. I cleaned a little ear stuff out so it could be checked and it was yeast with a little bacteria as I had suspected. So she's getting treated for that. She's a good girl and takes her pills (ketaconazole) without any trouble since it's hidden in a piece of chicken. She also lets me clean her ears nicely and put in the medication. So we're getting along pretty well, she loves to sit and get marathon massages and lovey talk. She's cleaning up her food and she and Patrick are getting along. She doesn't even react when he barks (at nothing in particular). Will just keep o loving her and help her build her confidence in me and others she meets. I think in time she will. Hope the icy stuff misses you, but it may be headed your way. Take care, Judie

Update 12/11/07: Genna loves snow, chicken, poultry flavored toothpaste, pumpkin surprise in her food, sleeping up on my bed, her kennel, and going fast. She is trying lots of new things and learning to enjoy many of them. Still going slow with things that seem to scare her, but she now goes out into the yard and comes back in nicely. She's eating well and is a member of the Clean Plate Club almost every meal. Genna likes her new name and seems to be learning that she is Genna. We had a squirrel alert this morning, and the squirrel was put on notice that Genna is here and she would like to get acquainted up close and personal with him/her. (The squirrel showed proper respect from on high--this time.) She is enjoying her yard, however this icy stuff was a bit much and is pretty crunchy now under foot. Going for walks is her passion. I've been trying to explain to her that she has to remember I'm an older lady and can't go quite as fast as she'd like. Thank heaven for Yaktrax or with all of our icy sidewalks imagine I might be sporting a cast or crutches by now. We have lots of ups and downs in the neighborhood, which makes for plenty of excitement for me trying to stay on my feet. Genna has tried to get a little play going with Patrick a few times, and he seems to want to play with her, he's just a little concerned about the impact of her rather large front feet when she dances toward him--we're wondering if she's had clogging lessons in her recent past? She totally loves her lovin and just about turns somersaults when she gets her butt scratched and head rubbed. In short, she's a dear, sweet girl and I think we're getting pretty stuck on each other. Will work on getting some pix soon.

Update 2/08: Greetings from us in the frozen "west". Genna has had two bouts with her stomach filling up with air/gas but no twisting--New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day...and no we weren't having wild parties either time. It has been recommended she have gastropexy surgery. Have done some internet research and she indeed has the classic profile (nervous, slender, rapid eater, plus her build and breed) of a dog at high risk for GDV. Maxie never had any trouble with that, thank heaven. Guess we were lucky. I'm trying to see if we can get the surgery done through a small laparascopic incisions vs a large incision. The GDV literature recommend against elevated feeding and slowing intake so they don't gulp air with the food so Genna has treasure hunts for her food. I put a handful at a time on a towel and wrap it up (she sits and waits nicely--like a lady) then she noses it around to find it all. She really seems to enjoy the quest and eating is very happy time for her. She is eating Innova's Evo-large bites since I can't get the other food you had her on here. Also, it seemed like she was scratching a lot and the Evo has no grain if any of her itchiness and yeasty ears were due to food allergies. It was recommended at Iowa Pet Foods. They have just about every kind of food available and considering allergy and stomach concerns we tried the Evo. The dog trainer I've consulted about Genna's fear issues didn't also didn't feel the Eukanuba allergy food was a good choice due to the preservative in it. Maxie had always eaten that, so it made me wonder about the safety of it considering his cancer. Genna and I have bonded very well. She loves back rubs and doggie toothpaste. Not so much on the brushing part, but she tolerates a little fang polishing work. I keep trying to increase the brushing-- she's learning I can be somewhat relentless on stuff like that. Her ears are clear and clean now and we keep then that way with a drop or two of Conofite every 2-3 days. She seems to trust me for most things. She's still a little touchy about toenails, but we do one or two at a time when I have time and she is really mellow so progress is slow. I was amazed and delighted a week or so ago one morning to see she had finally taken care of her long "funny foot" toenail herself. Looked like she chewed it off quite neatly to just the right length. That one she hadn't let me do. I got her a boot for that foot, but to date she hasn't let me put it on. Almost made it the other day, but not quite. I don't like to stress her out totally so usually back off and wait for another day to try again. Got the boot because her little foot looked like it was getting irritated from walking. There has been so much salt and sand on the streets and sidewalks. I worried about it. She's learning to cope with me sometimes clanking pots/pans in the kitchen--I'm klutzy. Yet, sometimes she still jumps and runs if some noise or movement startles her. We go for walks most every day unless temperatures and wind are too severe. (Will this winter ever end???) She continues to be afraid of new people we meet or who come to visit. I try to give her opportunities to meet people to see if we can get her fear of new people to subside. It appears that will take some time. Imagine when weather warms we can be out more and get around more comfortably. In the meantime, we have a pretty calm routine. She does well during the days when I have school. Leave her loose in the house. She and Pat are get along fine. There have been a couple of moments when she has a toy, that I notice a little possessiveness, so I get her to trade for a treat and put it away for awhile. She's a pretty hard chewer, so don't leave any of those down unless I'm here to supervise. She can demolish those twisty rope chews--the ones with knots at each end, in short order. She likes to take the stuffing out of stuffed toys and distribute it all around. We have several toys awaiting re- stuffing and stitching before they can play with her again. We are taking one day at a time and making progress in building Genna's confidence. I had hoped we could wait for the surgery by having slow, calm, happy meals, but that doesn't seem wise since the second bout this week. I love this complex sweetie. Did I tell you she is absolutely the best cuddler? She'll let me snuggle up with her when she's laying on my bed--awfully nice these cold days. I always try to be super careful about she and Patrick ever getting loose since we live just a block from a busy, busy street. I attached a picture of Genna. My photography skills are dreadful so will keep trying to get some better ones.

Update 4/08: We are having a little jealousy I think mostly from Genna, but it comes and goes alternating between them. Lulu is a bit heavy handed with paws an mouth and Genna gets scared. Then another time usually right after they've eaten, Genna is the one stirring up a romp. I think things will work out gradually. I move away from both of them when they start with the jealous stuff. I am becoming convinced that Genna had the dog equivalent of a manic depressive type disorder. Some days she's up and confident, doing fine. Then next, she gets all spooky and shaky and acts so miserable. I can't tell what triggers that reaction. It's like a switch that goes on and she gets so weird. I love Lulu and want very much to keep her. She's so funny--loves to play with toys and can amuse herself with them. She has come close to getting a ticket back to IL, twice when she dumped a full (large) bowl of water in the bedroom on the hardwood floor. Had to move every thing and mop up-- considered using her for the mop briefly. I changed to an old HEAVY crock bowl and she still picked it up and dumped it. Actually she picked it up and took it to the other room and was tossing it around. The bowl is so heavy, I have to use both hands to carry it when full. On the other hand, she learns fast (so do I, there is no more water bowl in bedroom only small ones in their kennels.) She is pretty well housetrained, she is learning to leave food alone on the table--she took my breakfast Eng. muffin plate and all off the table twice so she got my most stern voiced "that's not yours" and we practiced a couple times with the same phrase and still say it if she goes near the table when my food is on it. She has hair is coming back on the sides of her face where there were some worn streaks. When she's good, shes really an angel and the reverse is true when she isn't good. She's doing well on leash--I think she'd be an excellent tracker. She sweeps back and forth in a zig-zag as we go along. She wraps around me less, The first couple of walks I thought I'd go dizzy trying to keep her from getting me tangled. Take a step-spin around, take a step-spin.... I put her harness on and a Gentle Leader head collar and two leashes--one is a TTouch double ended that goes on the harness and the other leash is on the Gentle Leader so it is kind of like reins on a horse. It steadies her and makes a huge difference in pulling. Tonight she was ready to roll and we were flying till she settled a little. Patrick loves to come in and clean up after Lulu eats--she misses some of the little pieces of food and he is my backup vaccuum cleaner as long as the items are edible in his opinion. Lulu is good about leaving him pretty much alone. He lets her sniff when he comes inside and he's told her a couple times he's not into playing with giant-footed huge girls. So long story short, well a little short, I got Lulu a city license tag Tuesday. We'll hope for the best that Genna's good days will outnumber the sad/nervous ones. I've registered to take her to a 2 day Tellington Touch workshop in July. It will be here in Des Moines. You might like to check out their website if you're not familiar with how their massage work and confidence course work to help with a variety of problems. Still haven't broken the news to my sister that I now have two--she will absolutely think I've gone round the bend. Oh, well c'est la vie also c'est la Jane. She's got a tubby, rotten spoiled bichon who gets jealous when she talks on the phone and pees in her significant other's shoes.

Mama Lu n/k/a Lucy

Mama Lu was adopted by the Grasz family of Nebraska in July 2003. She joins an American Eskimo sibling and lots of horses, donkeys, fainting goats, peacocks and guineas to play with. This special girl came to MBR very pregnant and gave birth to 10 happy, healthy puppies. Mama Lu was an excellent mother and friend to the other dogs in her foster home. She will now get the chance to live out her life as she deserves to - room to run, 2-leggers to love and no more worries about having more puppies!

Mandy

Mandy was adopted by the Connell family of Ohio in April 2005. This lovely little girl was rescued from a shelter. Shortly afterwards, MBR discovered that she was heartworm positive. She also had a terrible upper respiratory infection. She went through the treatments like a champ and, after many rounds of antibiotics, finally got over her upper respiratory infection. Mandy is now in her new home being spoiled by there new Mom & Dad. She also gets to play with her new 4-legged brother, a redbone coonhound.

Marilyn n/k/a Martha

Marilyn has been adotped by the Eagle family of Ohio in April 2004. This sweet, loveable girl is just what the family needed to fill the void left when they lost their female bloodhound. Their male bloodhound, another MBR rescue, was missing his companion also. Marilyn has gladly stepped in to soak up all the love and attention she can get!

Update 6/04: My girls name is Martha now. She's pretty awesome. She's on medication now every day for her hip. Hogan and she are bonding really well. Last night I had to yell at them to stop rough-housing. It seemed to go on for at least an hour last night. She still chews and gets into things when left alone, and I'm convinced that's the puppy in her. Jay is sloooooowly but surely becoming fond of her. I still think he's a little leery because of Daisy. Also, he gets bothered if she get's a bit rough with Hogan.....he doesn't want him to get hurt. Is that hysterical? He's a monster and she's a skinny little thing with a bad hip. Anyway, we're all doing well and adjusting to our new, neurotic family member. She gets hundreds of hugs and kisses from me every day, but I'll slide one in there from you.

Marmaduke

Marmaduke was adopted by the Dimpfl family of Illinois in July 2006. He joins a big brother golden at his new home. Marmaduke will enjoy playing with the family's many 4-legged friends that come to visit, frequent walks and runs on the beach.

Martha n/k/a Holly

Martha was adopted by the Heins family of Illinois in July 2009.

Update 12/09: I’m hoping this is your email address. I just wanted to let you know that Holly (Formerly Martha) is doing fantastic!!! She slept the whole drive home, and has been healthy and active ever since. She’s very attached to us already, and loves to go for walks or just bounce around in the yard. She’s a wonderful puppy, and we’re glad we found you guys. Here’s a picture of her in our backyard, and I was wondering if you could send us the one you took of all three of us. It looked like a great pic! Have a great week, and thanks again for everything!

Mavis

Mavis was adopted by the Ice family of Indiana in January 2004.

Mavy a/k/a Peanut a/k/a Diesel

Mavy a/k/a Peanut was adopted by the Dolt/Gatton family of Ohio in May 2009.

Update 12/09: We drove to Wisconsin to pick him up. He was great all the way home. We love him and wanted to let you know he is doing very well. We changed his name to Diesel in honor of his late owner and because he most certainly is NOT a peanut of a dog. He has gained about 60 pounds and has gotten 5-6 new teeth in. (He won't let me see them all!!) We were told he was 4 but believe he in only about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. That's just fine with us since he has mostly stopped teething and drooling like a baby. Even though we still have drop clothes with us at all times. I am going to try to attach some recent photos but I am not very good at it. I will keep trying. I know you update your files every so often and post adoption stories as well.

Maxie

Maxie has been adopted by Woods family of Ohio in August 2004. Maxie's new Mom has never owned a bloodhound before but is very familiar with the breed. She’s the perfect match for Maxie who has a few health problems and can’t handle stairs. Maxie has a lot of good years left in life but needed someone who could help her up when she falls due to her hip displasia. MBR feels very lucky to have found thes wonderful match for Maxie and her new Mom.

Maxine a/k/a Joy

Maxine a/k/a Joy was adopted by the Travis family of Illinois in July 2001. Mrs. Travis helped transport Joy to her foster home and, in that short time, she fell in love with her. Who couldn't? Joy is a dog that is lucky to be alive and knows it. After careful thought, the Travis' decided to permanently adopt her. She brought so much joy to their lives that they decided to make it her name! Joy's new brother, bloodhound Casey, is quickly warming to her sweet, quiet nature.

Update: In July we adopted Joy, a wonderful girl whose feet have been mangled apparently by a steel trap. She is so well adapted to her injury that I don't think she realizes she is different from the other dogs. She runs and plays a mile a minute. Joy is also the sweetest most gentle soul I have ever had the priviledge to know. All she wants out of life is to love and to be loved. My mother is 92 and in a nursing home. Her mind is not very good and it has become difficult to visit her and carry on any meaningful conversation. Several months ago I spoke with the activity director about Joy and asked if it would be alright to bring her into the nursing home to visit with other patients as well as Mom. I don't have the time or energy to have her qualified as a therapy dog but she doesn't need any training to be her own sweet self. I began to bring Joy with me on visits and she has rapidly become a popular visiter. When we come through the door I will hear people say, "Here comes Joy!". We then search out Mom who may be anywhere in the facility scooting around in her wheel chair and after visiting for a short time we begin to make the rounds to see other people. Then we go back for another visit with Mom. It is wonderful to see peoples faces light up when they see the friendly dog with the ever-wagging tail. And Joy loves it! I feel she is doing something helpful for people and I think she realizes it too.

May

May was adopted by the Campanale family of Indiana in October 2005. This sweet, shy little girl will enjoy romping in her new fenced-in yard (2 acres of grass & woods) with her new big sister, a 10 year old bloodhound, and her new big brother, a 4 year old bloodhound.

McDreamy

McDreamy and Adele were adopted together by the Faus family of Illinois in April 2007. These two beautiful four-legged girls will enjoy playing with their beautiful new two-legged girls!

Meenie

Meenie was adopted by the Norton family of Illinois in November 2004.

Meridith n/k/a Sally

Meridith was adopted by the Davis family of Illinois in April 2007. This perky pup will have fun playing with her new big sister, a Chocolate Lab, her kitty cousin and her three new 2-legged siblings.

Mica n/k/a Bailey

Mica was adopted by the Knoll family of Illinois in March 2005. She joins a lab/boxer mix to play with. Most importantly, she has a new mom & dad to cuddle and play with too!

Update:   We got Mica who has been renamed Bailey home fine.  Her and Buca are getting along pretty well.  Surprisingly Bailey is very protective of me already.  She doesn't take well to me giving Buca any attention. This in turn has made Buca the same.  Niether one is dealing well with me giving the other attention.  However, when they are playing and not concerned about me they get along great.  She explored the house and backyard when we go home and now seems very comfortable with her surroundings.  The only thing I can't get her to do is go downstairs.  Buca and I will stand at the bottom of the stairs and encourage her to come down, but she stands at the top and whines.  With time I'll get her down there, I just would like to do it on her terms so that she's comfortable with it.  I fed them both seperatley and that worked out well, but I can tell she is protective of her food.  Thank You for everything that you have done.  We are really excited  to have her.  If you have any advice about the dogs issues with attention I would appreciate any suggestions.

Millie

Millie was adopted by the Boyll family of Indiana in November 2004. The Boyll's were Millie's foster family and, after spending so much time with her, they decided they just couldn't part with her. MBR feels that both Millie and the Boyll's made a great decision!

Miney

Miney was adopted by the Freehling family of Illinois in October 2004.

Miranda

Miranda was adopted by the Ciszewski family of Illinois in April 2007. She will be the very pampered only pooch and will enjoy playing with her two 2-legged brothers.

Update: Miranda is now 6 months old. She just finished puppy school and did a fine job, even with her nose as a handicap. Hard to concentrate when there are so many smells going on. Miranda is very sweet, gentle and loves to play. She is the ultimate sock stealer. We could not have asked for a better pet. She was house-trained and crate-trained almost completely after the first day we brought her home. We will keep you updated. One of the photos (on the grass) was taken a day after she came home.

Update 1/08: We just wanted to wish all of Miranda's brothers and sisters a Happy Birthday. Hopefully they are all doing well. Miranda has been great. The chewing on the furniture has stopped. I wish it would have stopped before she ruined a cocktail table, a rocking chair, a brand new leather sofa etc. She still loves to steel anything she can get her hands on, hats, gloves, socks and unfortunately kids homework. No, but seriously, we love her to death and will keep working on these bad habits. We take her to the dog park often and it is her FAVORITE place. She knows that anytime she gets in the car, that is where she is going. If we end up somewhere else, she refuses to get out of the car. Hope to here other stories from you all. Have a great year!

Missy n/k/a Annabelle

Missy was adopted by the Williams family of Minnesota in January 2004. Missy used to be owned by puppy-millers who could not take care of her any longer. When she came in to MBR, she was friendly but very scared. It was also obvious that Missy had whelped several litters. Luckily, she was in pretty good shape. So, with a little time & love, Missy's loving personality came out. She will be the pampered only pooch in her new home and enjoy an active lifestyle with her new mom!

Mitzi n/k/a Roxi

Mitzi was adopted by the Shousha/ Liberopoulos family of Quebec in June 2004. Mitzi had a very rough start in life. When she came to MBR at the tender age of 4 months, we were her 6th home. Why anyone in their right mind gave up this sweet, loving girl is beyond us. All the bouncing around is behind Mitzi now as she joins her new family waaaay up north. She has a big sister, a 13 yr. old bloodhound, and two new 2-legged siblings to play with.

MN Billy

MN Billy was adopted by the Romanowski/Williams family of Illinois in May 2008. Billy will be the very spoiled only pooch in his new family but he will have to share some of his new people's attention with his new kitty cousins!

Update 5/08: Just wanted to let you know everything is TERRIFIC !!!!!!!  So far billy has adjusted great.  He's had NO accidents in the house.  He only spent one night in a kennel (the 1st night) we let him roam the house all day and night he hasn't chewed or destroyed anything YEAH.  He doesn't bother the cats or jump on guests.  He has made a spot for himself on our front room couch and he spends most of his time there.  He still is a bit nervous of certain rooms and does'nt really hang out with us alot.  I have introduced him to a couple of buddies,  He does'nt really like the small dog but is really friendly with a rott named Bella, whom we walk with often.  This weekend he's going for a bath.  He's eating well.  My husband loves him.  So a BIG thank you.  I finally got what I wanted - a good dog.

MN Blue n/k/a Dallas

MN Blue was adopted by the Page family of Pennsylvania in May 2008. Mr. Page has always wanted a bloodhound and he has finally been able to get one! Blue herself picked him and he was grinning for the next hour. She'll have to share some of the attention with her new kitty cousins, though.
MN Elwood

MN Elwood was the first of the MN8 puppymill bust to go to his new home! He joins the Cohagen family of Illinois in March 2008, who had adopted Daisy VI from us in 2003. Unfortunately they lost Daisy in late 2007 and the house just wasn't the same without a bloodhound. Elwood is a little more active and will definately not let them get bored!

Update: All is GREAT with Elwood. Took to the family like a gem! He is SNORING so loud in the living room and all are laying around like they’ve been together for years! We are just delighted. Daisy was a dream girl, but we have to say that we thing Elwood has a smoother disposition. We were used to that “grumbling” that she did. Haven’t heard it once from him. He loves hugs – she didn’t especially like that. I’d say we have a great beginning here.

Update: You are just so cool! I love getting hints from you. I never thought about standing up when he rushes me for food I may have when I’m in my recliner. I’ll do that. Obedience classes start Wed nite (27th). Can’t wait. We did forget about “puppy proofing”. He did a really good one on the remote for the DVR from cable company! HA… We will learn. He is really a big lover. Much more willing to cuddle than Daisy ever was. She was particular about her feet and face. He seems to want to be touched CONSTANTLY and is just a bugger. HA But a big doll. I think he’ll do well. We just have to learn. We’ll apply these hints. You are just terrific! Thanks so much for your patience with us.

MN Green n/k/a Bella

MN Green was adopted by the Sharp family of Michigan in May 2008. She has a new big sister, Ippy, and a very happy new mom!

Update 5/08: Thank you again for rescuing Luna. This puppy has been a delight and she now has a name: Bella. My next door neighbor is from Italy and Bella means "beautiful" First time Frances saw the pup she blurted out: Bella. :) I liked it. The pup seems to respond to it. Last night, she slept with me in my bed all night without an accident. That's pretty impressive, I think. We're still working on potty training. <sighs> I forgot what a pain it is hehe.  But, we're getting there, kind of :) Ippy is establishing control to some extent and even played with Bella earlier this morning. It was very cute. I would not say Ippy is happy about all this, but I think she's ok with it. In time, I think she'll come to like her, I can already see it.

Update 10/09: My name is Janet Sharp and I adopted (green collar) named: Bella (now) in May 08 and have come to the conclusion that you maybe do not have a picture of her! ? ! Not sure. She was one of 9 (I think) puppies born to you on Feb 20, 2008. She is an awesome pup and I adore her :)

MN Luna

MN Luna was adopted by the Ranspot/Todd family of Missouri in April 2008. Luna was the mother of the pups but she doesn't have to worry about being a mom anymore. Now she can just enjoy being the loving dog she is, getting totally spoiled by her new parents!

Update 4/08: Just wanted to let you know that Luna appears to be adjusting. She helped me unpack my overnight bag - or my toothbrush anyway. Maybe she just needed to freshen her breath after the trip! Pooped and piddled for my husband before he understood he needed to introduce himself to her out-of-doors. She actually appears to prefer the deck and yard to the house - probably more interesting smells - so we'll try leaving the screen door opened when the weather and bugs permit to get her used to coming and going in and out. She and Chino are still checking one another out but I think it will work out as Luna is making the appropriate submissive gestures. Luna is intrigued with one of our cats - it was a rescue from a no kill shelter that had been handed around a bit before coming here. Wilma had lived on her own so long that she tends to attack any critter she sees - or at least arch, hiss and show claws. All our animals from the other 2 cats up to the donkey, have learned to just ignor Wilma and she does the same with them. I guess Luna will have to get her nose scratched before she learns Wilma isn't really all that interesting. Poor Luna just wants to make friends with Wilma but Wilma only trusts humans for some odd reason - usually it's humans they're afraid of. So far, no real problems. We have moved the cat food bowl to a higher location as well as the stuffed bears the grandkids like to play with.

MN Maroon n/k/a Tasha

MN Maroon was adopted by the Vitiello family of Pennsylvania in May 2008. She will have a new basset brother and bloodhound brother, not to mention a new mom & dad that are thrilled with their new little girl.

Update 5/08: Hi my name is Tasha. We made it home. Very late last night (really this morning (3:30 am) Somebody got lost going home from the airport. Tasha did so very well with both drives and the flight. As you will see she fits in perfectly. Has her on spot on the couch already. And the boys just love her. We'll keep you updated.

Update 9/08: I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how Tasha (maroon) is and send you a copy of her spay cert. She is doing so well. She is a very sweet loving puppy. We are so very happy she is apart of our Family.  She is a true Girl, the little princess around here. Zeke our 2 year old Bloodhound is very protective and has taught her or corrected her on how to behave both good and bad. Our older Basset hound shares everything with her, from his food to his toys even gives up his spot on the couch for her. Not so sure if it’s his real choice or if just so she stops annoying him. Her surgery went well and they repaired that umbilical hernia at the same time. We just wanted to thank you again for letting us adopt her she is such a joy to have around. I hope all of her siblings are well. Please if you could keep me informed of their health and of coarse happiness. I attached the Spay cert and a couple of pictures.

MN Mauve

MN was adopted by the Baughn family of Wyoming in May 2008. This lucky girl will learn how to use that nose of hers!

MN Pink n/k/a Garmin

MN Pink was adopted by the Aeschliman family of Michigan in May 2008. This little girl has some big paws to live up to as the family has previously owned & loved three other bloodhounds. Pink is a charmer so we are sure she will make her own niche in their hearts in no time at all!

Update 5/08: Garmin is doing just fine. She has turned out even better than I expected so far. Even my wife and mother think she is pretty - at least so far! I am teaching her to lead on a leash now and take her with me in the car most places.

MN Purple n/k/a Ramona

MN Purple was adopted by the Sittig/Spry family of Washington in May 2008. She has a new name to go with her new family, Ramona, two new 2-legged brother and a kitty cousin.

Update 5/08: I hope that today is finding you relaxed and enjoying having the last puppy out of your house!  Purple, now known as Ramona (or just Mona for short) is happily settling in to her new digs.  She came into the hosue last night, guns blazing and barking at the other dogs.  Needless to say, Chula and Jack didn't appreciate that too much!  She'll learn.  She's already respecting Chula (probably because Chula is bigger), but she's not always impressed with Jack's authority.  Poor little guy.  He's really telling her off too!  She responds with a growl half the time and backing off the other half.  Mona is not interested in staying at the bottom of the pecking order any longer than necessary.  She's also discovered that Pants, our cat, makes a fun chasing toy.  He doesn't really mind that much.  He's used to playing with Jack all the time. Ramona slept very soundly in her house crate last night.  I hope that she'll find comfort in a private space when its nap time, and hopefully it'll help speed her through housetraining!  She seems to be a very smart puppy, but definitely headstrong.  She'll be a trip to train.  I guess that's what I get after wanting a Bloodhound so badly for all these years!

Update 10/08: I hope that you're having a great summer.  I noticed that there aren't too many dogs on your adoption page.  That's great news!  Hopefully all of your dogs are finding homes super fast. Ramona got spayed this week and I've attached the spay certificate to this email.  How do you handle the deposit?  I have also attached some current photos.  She has more than doubled in size in the last 3 months! Here is her latest update if you would like to post something new about her: I can't believe that we've only had Ramona for 3 months!  It seems like she's been here forever.  Ramona is growing like a weed and has all the crazy puppy energy that comes with a 6 month old baby dog.  She has settled nicely into our household and we have settled into having a puppy around again. She's getting along well with all the animals in the house and has figured out her place in the heirarchy.  Ramona and Jack (our Yorkie) are pretty good buddies most of the time.  They do lots of wrestling play and Jack really likes to bite on her loose skin.  She doesn't seem to mind at all. She's a super smart girl, who sometimes uses her smarts against us!  But most of  the time she's pretty well behaved for her age.  She sits and lies down and even waits for her food until we say ok.  She's also walking really well on a leash.  We take all three dogs out together so she learns some good manners from them.  She pulls a bit, but not too badly.  I also take all of them to the off leash dog park every Tuesday.  Ramona has become a celebrity!  Everyone likes watching her grow and are amused by the antics of a Bloodhound puppy.  There aren't many Bloodhounds in the Seattle area, so she's a rare treat.  She gets to run and play with lots of other dogs at the park and she's excellent about coming back when called.  Must have something to do with the cookies in my pocket.  The park is located on Lake Washington (a BIG lake) so she's learning to swim too.  So far she's progessed to wading pretty deep on her own, but isn't too sure about actually dog paddling yet.  All in good time. We are really happy ot have been able to adopt Ramona.  She is a constant source of entertainment in our home. We'll be even more happy when she's over her constant biting stage!  She has extremely busy snappers!!!  But we love her just the same and can barely remember life without her.

MN Red n/k/a Banjo

MN Red was adopted by the Boyle family of Kentucky in April 2008. The first puppy to go home, he is also the only boy in the litter. He joins big bloodhound sister, Lexi, who was adopted from MBR in 2005.

Update 10/08: just a note to say hello and that both of our "mbr" babies are doing great. Banjo "Minnesota pups" is 6 months old and has just been neutered.

MN Rio n/k/a Beau

MN Rio was adopted by the Hildebrand family of Washington in April 2008. This spunky but shy boy will get the love and security he needs from his new family. He has two new 4-legged siblings and a dad that has always wanted a bloodhound. Mom is just a little excited about their new "kid" too!

Update 5/08: He is still adjusting but eating well and soaking up the love and companionship. Still a little skittish but slowly coming out of his shell and being afraid all the time.

Update 9/09: Hi, an update on Beau/Rio, Beauregard has come out of his shell and is only afraid of loud noises now. We thought her needed a friend to romp and run with as  our late mixed breed Sammy was elderly and not as mobile as he once was and our Pug Isabelle could not keep up with Beau’s long legs. So we thought and looked around and discovered a young male bloodhound being fostered by Pacific rim bloodhound rescue and adopted Rufus. The two are enjoying life together barking at the neighbors playing with the kitties and letting us know if anyone is in the cul-de-sac who shouldn’t be there. Haha. Beau is up to about 82 pounds now at the age of 2 and a half and the younger Rufus who is 1 and a half tips the scales at close to 95 pounds. Of course they love treats and going for a “ride in the truck”.

MN Tahoe n/k/a Butkus

MN Tahoe n/k/a Butkus was adopted by the Bofigner/Hale family of Illinois in May 2008. The family's young boxer just really needed a playmate and, since they liked the bloodhound breed, they thought it would be a great match. Guess what? It was!!

Update 6/08: Tahoe has settled in and seems to be very content! He has already found a nice sleeping-spot and it's amazing how small a space such a large dog can curl up in.

Update 6/08: Angus is leaving Butkus alone more often and Butkus is getting into the playing a little more, which is good to see! It is weird to have a dog that doesn't beg, is crate-trained, and actually listens when you tell him to get off the counter. I never realized how many bad habits I taught Angus. We are beginng to train Butkus basic commands and he is really smart. We are still having a problem with the bloody tail but have learned to simply avoid wearing nice slacks in the house, hah! So we are both wearing shorts until the VERY LAST MOMENT when we crate him and leave for work.

Update 4/09: Just wanted to send you an update to say that Butkus (alias Tahoe, adopted May 2008) has settled in well and seems to be doing just fine! He went to the vet 2 weeks ago and she said he has filled out some and his coat looks gorgeous. He seems very comfortable with us and yowls in joy when we come home from being out. He is a little less destructive than he used to be, but still has a nasty habit of eating Ivory soap. And he SO TALL we have to put it up really high after using it! At last count he has also stolen 4 sandwiches off the counter. Someday I will learn not to turn my back on him. Butkus’ hobbies include: taking long walks, having a belly-rub, and being trained by Troy…also, there is a bloodhound who lives on the next block so we often walk over to say hi to him! Troy has also given him the nickname of “Bubbe,” which is Yiddish for “Grandma.” Butkus doesn’t seem to mind… Also, this is a very strange thing that has happened—I have grown so used to the bump on his head, that when I see a bloodhound without one, I’m like, “Where’s his head-lump? What’s wrong with that dog?” Some sad news about our boxer Angus -- we learned in January that he has heart condition that will probably end his life in the next several months….I think it’s called Dilated Cardiomyopathy. For the moment, he is doing well and is being an unholy terror to his brother. He seems to think God gave Butkus long ears just so Angus can nibble on them. We are pretty devastated especially since we lost our last dog in December 2007. So we are just focusing on enjoying him for these next few months and trying (unsuccessfully!) to keep him calm. Angus and Butkus have grown to be great friends, and Butkus has never been an “only dog” so I am a little worried about him after Angus passes. He loves people (Butkus) but isn’t sure how to play with them! So, that’s about it. Just wanted to touch base and let you know Butkus is great!

MN Willa n/k/a Lulu

MN Willa was adopted by Ms. Horka of Iowa in April 2008. She adopted Malina n/k/a Genna in late 2007 and felt that Genna needed a playmate. Willa is a lovely young lady that will definately enjoy Genna's company and will love all the attention from her new mom.

Update 4/08: Wow, Willa--now Lulu, is quite a girl, thus the name change. Her nose has been going non-stop since she arrived. She has checked everything in the house over totally at least twice. She and Genna have already had some pretty good romps outside. They'd love to continue inside, but I have exercised veto power. Lulu is fascinated by her reflection in the porch windows and tonight she stood up and put her feet up on my dresser to get a look at herself in the mirror. She doesn't bark at herself, but just admires herself. She just about cleared everything off with her dainty little feet. She finally found a spot to get comfy and has been having a good sleep. See the photo. Genna is camera shy and I'm a lousy photographer, but one of these days will catch a good one of her. Am wondering how I'm going to manage getting everyone fed, emptied out and me ready to go on Monday morning when I have to go back to school?

MN William

MN William was adopted by the Mr. Skubic of Illinois in April 2008. This lonely bachelor needed a buddy to spend time with and share his love of SAR work. William will most definately keep Mr. Skubic active and will enjoy learning how to use his nose!

Update 6/08: William is doing great. He is afraid of everything, but getting much braver. He took about 4 weeks to learn that outside is the place for doing his business.

MN Yaris

MN Yaris was adopted by Ms. White of Illinois in April 2008. Yaris was the smallest and most timid of the MN8 but he will soon come out of his shell being the pampered only pooch in his new home.
MN Yellow n/k/a Isabella

MN Yellow was adopted by the Gheorgia family of Michigan in May 2008. They lost their beloved bloodhound not long ago and it just wasn't right not having a bloodhound around! Yellow's new family is pleased as punch with her and are probably going to spoil her rotten!

Update: Yes, the Gheorghiu family of Grand Rapids, Michigan has our adopted bloodhound, named Isabella or Isabel or Izzy. I'm attaching a few pictures of Isbella. She loves my shoes (weeded out about 50% of her Mommie's & she's eatern one couch, and is on her 2nd loveseat.  Last Fall 2008 we moved across town from Kentwood, Michigan to the NE side of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Isabell has more grass to run in, and lots of dog friendly parks to visit which we just began visiting much more often since the weather has improved. We've finally got her potty-trained well, once in awile she has a little pee-pee, but not daily, hank goodness. Isabel is like our 2nd daughter, very spoiled.

Mo

Mo was adopted by the Letheby family of Illinois in October 2004

Moe

Moe was adopted by the Schmitt family of Illinois in February 2004. This handsome young man will be the pampered only pet in the home. He will have lots of grandkids to spoil though!

Update 7/04: Doing great. Loves to play. He's appx. 80-85 lbs. and in great health. Still has some accidents inside when in a new place.

Momma

Momma was adopted by Church Creek, a Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Illinois in December 2007. She will have 60 seniors to give her plenty of attention and love, not to mention plenty of couches to choose where to take her nap!

Monroe

Monroe was adopted by the Crockett family of Manitoba, Canada, in April 2004. This sweet boy will enjoy playing with his new family and training for SAR work.

Update: We arrived home Sunday Morning at 9:00am. It was a long trip and Monroe was excellent. He slept the entire way except for the four or five stops we made at the rest stops for him to exercise. He is fitting in really good with my other dogs and my
kids just adore him. I did a quick test track for him today. My wife and daughter went down the road to the next road and turned down it and waited there. I scented Monroe on my daughter's outfit she had just changed out of and he went right to them. No hesitation he just put his nose to the ground and went. I will continue to work him daily and hopefully he continues to do well. Sorry I didn't stay long to visit but it was a long trip and I just wanted to get back home. I stopped for another two hour nap on the drive home. I felt safer this time with Monroe in the truck with me. Not that he would hurt anybody but he would probably be a good visual deterrent. Again Thanks for everything and I will be sending you a picture of Monroe and the kids shortly.

Mr. Moses

Moses was adopted by the Smith family of Mississippi in November 2005. This lucky guy is going to be the ONLY dog and is sure to be very spoiled by his new family. Moses' new mom plans to take him on lots of walks. Moses' new 2-legged brother is a Police Explorer so Moses may even run some trails in a SAR class, too with Mom. Moses made the instant connection with his family the moment they met and MBR is confident this has been a match made in heaven!

Update 2/06: Hi there, we (me and mo) just wanted to say hello and let you know he is doing just great. We went to the vet yesterday and he is down to 127 lbs. Everyone loved him at the vet and commented what an beautiful animal he was and how his coat just shined. One lady stated we need to take a picture of him and put him the paper because he was just plain beautiful. He is laying here by my chair as I type this. Yesterday he started running (not jogging) during our walk, ears just a flapping in the wind.  We will probably be stuck in the house for the next couple of days, its is sleeting, raining and snowing pretty hard here since about am. We haven't seen this much winter activity in YEARS. He switches between sleeping in his crate and sleeping on his pillow.  Sometimes he does both. I figure he is just trying to get comfortable. Dixie finally came downstairs last night and hung around, she has been gradually coming down the stairs and watching him. She even came up to him last night and sniffed him. We thought that was a great. Give it a few more days and they will be the best of buddies. Cats are finicky anyway and you cant force nothing on her. I just want to say the you have taken such great care of Mr. Mo and it shows in his appearance and his actions. He is such an awesome addition to our family and he is so spoiled with all the 24 hr loving he receives since there is always someone home. WE JUST LOVE HIM!

Mrs. Minnie

Minnie was adopted by the Clegg family of Indiana in December 2005. This poor girl was rescued from a human abusive situation that caused her to live outside for the last year without any shelter. She was more than a little touchy and leery of us when she first came in but her underlying desire to trust, love and be loved shone through. She is still a little touchy when scared of being hurt but she knows that her new people will not hurt her and she is free to play, sleep on the couch and get hugs. Mrs. Minnie will enjoy the company of her new Bulldog sister and occasional visits from her 2-legged nieces & nephews.

Nadine II n/k/a Lucy

Our beautiful puppy Nadine was adopted late last night by the Kaczmar family of Michigan in December 2002. Apparently they’ve wanted a bloodhound for some time and fulfilled their wish just in time for the New Year. Nadine has gotten stronger and put on a lot of weight in the last month. She’s not the skinny, scared, weak puppy of just a few weeks ago. The Kaczmar's are true rescue pros after rescuing Nadine’s new four legged sibling from a freeway; so this is their second rescue. They’re going to have a very exciting New Years holiday; Nadine will make sure of that.

Update 1/04: MBR would like to thank the Kaczmer's for their generous donation of supplies and money.

Update 12/04: This Update if from Lucy's former Foster Dad ... Lucy and her humans came at New Years 2004 (one year after Lucy was adopted) for a personal visit! Last night we had a very interesting visit. The Kaczmar's drove all the way down from Michigan to show us their beautiful one year old hound, Lucy aka Nadine, that they adopted a year ago. She’s grown into a beautiful dog and is the tallest female that I’ve seen yet. She’d make a great fashion model. Anyway, before they left, they donated several leashes and collars, which we desperately needed, and then gave me a donation check for $100 for Midwest Bloodhound Rescue. It’s been a year since she adopted and she’s familiar with almost every dog we’ve had in the past year.

Update 3/08: I need advise about our bloodhound Lucy. We adopted her from your group when she was about 4 months old (Dec. 2002). She has always been a challenge, but I have never had this extreme behavior before. She has been to "dog school" but that was a while ago. About a year ago, she started peeing in the house. She was checked for infection and found none. Then this summer we moved. She continued to pee and then we tried to crate her during the day. She did ok at first but then she started peeing in the crate. So we moved her bedding into the basement. This way if she peed it would be easier to clean up. She continued the same behavior. She is only confined during the work day. We went out of town in Feb. and our pet sitter took care of her for the week. Within the first 24 hours Lucy scratched and ate her way through the wooden door! Now I have left her in the main part of the house so that maybe she would not feel stressed, but she continues to pee and sleep on the couches. Lucy will be six years old. She is healthy and very playful. She is a registered therapy dog. She has had severe seizures in the past and currently is taking phenobarbital. She has several behavior issues that we are generally ok with but now she is destroying the house. We spend time with her inside and out. We have a two year old that she had bitten in the face this time last year. We worked though that and made sure we put up any item that Lucy is aggressive with away. We also have a 10 year old Chow-Lab mix, three cats and a bird. There is plenty of attention and love for her but she does not seem to be responding positively at all. I have already contacted our vet and he told us that any "calming" medication might set off her seizures so that is not an option. I might meet with a behavior specialist he recommend in the next week or so. Do you think that might work? I feel like I am running out of options and it is causing me so much stress! I don't want to let her down. I have always been of the mind set for better or worse I chose to take her in so it is up to me to help her stay with me forever. I do not want to get rid of her! My husband does! I need help so that I can get her back on track and start enjoying my Lucy! I am thankful for any advise and guidance you can give. I want Lucy to stay with us and enjoy her life as part of our family.

Update 12/09: I was checking out your updated web site and thought I would give you an update on Nadine aka Lucy. It  She will be eight this year. This is time of year when we drove down to Don's to pick her up all those years ago. I attached a couple photos. We solved the problem we were having with her:) We switched vets! We were able to wean her off her medication for seizures and found out that she had a "hooded vulva" which creates the perfect storm for on going urinary tract infections. I could not believe that in all the years that I have had her, the vet was not able to figure this out. I felt so badly that even though I was doing all I thought I could do as a pet owner, that the vet I entrusted her care to could not help us. She is doing much better now! Medication free and does so much better with our daughter. The other thing that worked was getting a behavioral specialist to come and work with all of us. This helped reestablish all of our behavior. I read my last desperate update and I am so glad that things worked out for Lucy. As for many of the contacts that I made during that time, I felt that most of the rescues were not helpful at all. I would never recommend anyone to contact "snoppy-dogs"or what ever it is called. That person was so judgmental that I could not image them helping anyone. I do appreciate your phone conversations and trying to help me with some leads. I hope that you know how much it meant to me to have someone trying to work through a very stressful situation. I am truly glad that I did not give up on Lucy or have her put down. I feel that it is important that you encourage anyone who is having such a serve problem with their dog to get a second opinion. Ultimately, checking out a second vet is what gave Lucy a second/ third chance. Thank you for continuing to fight the good fight and be a kind and strong voice for those that need you. Dogs and owners alike:)

Naomi

Naomi was adopted by the Marino family of Ohio in June 2009.

Update 12/09: Naomi kicking back on the couch she has chewed apart!

Neli

Neli was adopted by the Armstrong family of Indiana in March 2002. Her new family includes three 2-legged siblings, a big brother Coonhound, 3 cats, 3 rabbits and 8 exotic ducks. Neli should soon be sporting a gloriously shiny clean coat as her new mom is a professional dog groomer.

Update 11/03: Neli is still battling her health/joint issues and may be facing a total hip replacement. She enjoys sleeping on "her" boy's bed with "her" kitty. Her mom recently had surgery and Neli was right there to cuddle and comfort her while she recuperated.

Nellie

Nellie was adopted by the Jindrich family of Wisconsin in April 2009.

Update 10/09: Just thought I would drop a quick note to let you know that Ellie is doing great. She and Tedd E. (golden) have become buddies in crime. They are so funny together. One of their favorite passtimes is cat chasing - believe it or not. Tedd has taught Ellie that cats are fun. I don' t think the cats think it is fun, but the only cat who spends a lot of time upstairs is the one male we have, and he taunts the dogs, so in a way, he deserves it. I have to rescue him at least once a day.Their other passtime is squirrels. I have actually seen Ellie out in the yard walking on her rear legs, nose in the air smelling for the squirrels in the trees! She still likes to pee on rugs, so I have taken up the rugs - not a big deal - and the peeing has stopped. I will put a rug down once in a while to see if the behavior has extinguished, but so far it hasn't, and I'm planning now to remove rugs for a year or so now. The behavior will probably go away by then. Otherwise she is perfectly housebroken - it is weird that she thinks rugs are ok. I wonder how she was originally housebroken - maybe paper, or a rug???She is much less hand shy, and even less freaky about loud noises. She goes out without coaxing, and sometimes can open the screen/storm by herself. I'm hoping that she doesn't really learn how to do that. Tedd can do it, and lets them all out (after squirrels :-) ). Hope you and your family are well, and thanks again for such a sweet dog. She is a doll - she jumped up the otherday and planted a kiss on my lips - uck!!!! :)

Update 12/09:
Here are a couple of pix of Ellie enjoying her Christmas present - a chewy bone. She is doing well. I wished I had my camera handy yesterday. She looked so funny with snow all over her nose :-) Hope you all are doing well.

Noble

Noble was adopted by the Greer/Osterhaus/Torand family of Iowa in November 2001. She has a new aussie/shepard mix brother and two 2-legged sisters to play with now. But we can't leave out her new Mom and Dad. She even has a new Grandma to love and take care of her while Mom & Dad are at work!

Update 1/05: Just a little note to let you know that Noble is doing great. We all enjoy her very much. She loves her treats and walks. She gets along great with all of our cats and the strays that we feed. She'll sit at the gate and watch them carefully.

Update 8/07: Noble is doing fine.

O’Malley n/k/a Raven

O'Malley was adopted by the Prima family of Illinois in April 2007. She will have lots of help learning the ins & outs of her new home from her new siblings – a Mastiff, an Akita, a Bloodhound and a Chocolate Lab!

Onyx

Onyx was adopted by the Hedges family of Illinois in December 2005. His new family lost both of their previous 4-legged kids about a year ago. They were deeply affected by the loss but began to miss the pitter patter of paws. Their cat just wasn't completely filling the void. Along came Onyx and a match was made. Onyx will have fun playing with his two new 2-legged siblings and hopefully not chasing his kitty cousin too much.

Otis n/k/a Toby

Toby was adopted by his foster family, the Cooper/Reketis' of Illinois in May 2002. This poor little guy was found as a stray at the tender age of 3 mos. in pretty bad health (including cherry eye). Little did he know that just a few short days later, he would be a TV "star", making an appearance on WGN's morning show with foster buddy Jed. He did so well under the loving care of his foster family that they found they just couldn't part with him. His new 4-legged pals are pretty happy that he's staying too.

Otis II

Otis II has been adopted by the Buckley family of Ohio in December 2003. Otis will have an extra-special Christmas this year. He gets to spend the 25th with his foster family (who really get a big kick outta this big lug) and then gets the best xmas present of all - a new forever family - on the 26th. As if that weren't great enough, he gets to play with his new bloodhound sister at his new home!

Update: Otis and Ripley trying to get the same spot on the couch resulted in this picture. Otis is such a sweetheart, he has so helped to heal the sadness after losing Blue and Buford. There is no time to feel sad with two young bloodhounds in the house!!

Otis III

Otis III was adopted by the Hyde family in November 2009.

Update 12/09: Otis is adjusting to his new home quite well. He and his brother are getting along great and it seems as though he has always been a part of this family. His two kitty siblings still don't know quite how to deal with him as he likes to chase them if they run from him. I will get some pictures taken of him and send them to you soon. I had planned to do that but with the holidays things have been rather hectic as I am sure you have had those same issues. Good to hear from you and I will be watching for his paperwork. Thank you!

Pearl

Pearl was adopted by the McGwin family of Indiana in February 2005. She joins little sister, Bernice, a Basset Hound.

Pebbles n/k/a Lilo

Lilo was adopted by the Colson family of Illinois in February 2004. This fuzzy little girl will enjoy playing with her new 4-legged brother, Stitch, and her new 2-legged siblings. Lilo promises to be a very active, very sweet girl!

Update: Just wanted to let you know that Lilo (Pebbles) was spayed yesterday and is doing just fine! She's such a joy to have around the house...sometimes a bugger, but mostly a joy. :0) We had more than our fair share of dog poop and vomit this past weekend, as both Lilo and Stitch were not feeling well...we'd clean up one mess and, lo and behold, there would be another...I'm sure you're VERY familiar with that. :0) Thanks a lot...hope all is well with you!

Pedro n/k/a Uncas

A young "Senor" Pedro was adopted by the Flox/Schalinsue family of Ohio in October 2005.

Penny

Penny was adopted by the Heather family of Wisconsin in August 2002.

Update: We adopted Pennie in August, received her from Stephanie. Just wanted to let you know she is doing wonderful and here is some updated pic's of her. We fell in love with her so much, we ended up getting a puppy now too. Thank you for all of your organizations hard work and help. Pennie is the best tempered and loveable dog I have seen in a long time. She is definitely part of our family now. Thank you so much.

Penny II n/k/a Sunny

Penny II was adopted by the Eyl/Reis family of Colorado in August 2003. The beautiful little bloodhound/lab puppy will enjoy (almost) all the attention in her new family.

Update: I've been meaning to send you pictures from Sunny's 1st birthday since last June.  Last March (2004) we adopted Alex, a "Heinz 57" mutt, from our local shelter.  He and Sunny are the best of friends and completely inseparable.  Even though Alex is half her size and six months younger, Sunny lets him be the boss most of the time.  They shared Frosty Paws on her birthday

Penny III

Penny was adopted by the Bryant family of Illinois in November 2006. Penny is a quirky girl who spent that kept her foster family quite amused. Not bad quirks – just really funny ones. Like she loves to like the insoles of shoes (not chew, just lick). Like she can bend her body in quite amazing positions (hence the nickname of Gumby dog). Well, her new family can now enjoy her quirks and loving, cuddly personality when she is not playing with her new little 4-legged brother (who outweighs her), another bloodhound. He was used to being the only child so there are some sharing issues going on but MBR is confident they’ll work it out.

Update: Boomer and Penny have finally settled down and doing great together.  All they want to do is play and sleep!!  Boomer has finally accepted the fact that he has to share his toys and they play tug-a-war with them!!  I still have to feed them in different rooms though, which I am sure I always will have to. I took her to the vet last Tuesday evening since I thought she had fleas.  I got some flea medicine for her and it didn't seem to work.  I then called the vet back and she told me to give her a little benedryl, due to some allergies she might have.  I have found there is no change, so I am guessing the last alternative is that she has mites.  Boomer is actually starting to itch and bite more than usual.  I have an appointment set to get some testing done for tomorrow evening.  I am just hoping to figure out why she constantly bites and itches herself.  You can tell Penny is feeling like she is at home now.  Boomer is still jumping on her, but not as much as before.  The both of them crack us in the evening.  She is also doing great in her crate.  We put our x-mas tree up last night and both dogs didn't know what to think about it!!  Penny seemed very timid at first, sometimes still is, but she is doing great.  Lately, she is testing her limits more and more (putting her paws on the counter).  In the evening, they both sleep on our couch right next to each other.  They are too cute.  Boomer would never let her leave at this point!

Peppi Petunia n/k/a Lola

Peppi was adopted by the Hudspeth family of Illinois in August 2004.

Update: Just thought I'd send a note to let you know all is going well with Peppie, we've had absolutely no problems with her at all and she is just adorable. Everyone who meets her just loves her. She has done great with our kids and the other 2 beagles we have here (We had several responses to our request for another beagle, and we did get another male beagle, Watson, a very shy one that needed an outgoing dog for a buddy, from the same rescue org where we got Sherlock). If there is any "problem" we've had it's that Sherlock is jealous of her and she is trying to boss him--she's "humped" him and taken his toys a few times and he has lost a couple of little spats with her so I think she will eventually be the "boss dog" around here. Being the female, that's as it should be :) Today was the first day she was home alone for several hours and she did fine. So far we have no problems w/ housetraining at all, she loves to be outside and plays all the time.

After doing a little research on the Sherlock Holmes theme, we decided to change Peppie's name to Lola, the female character in the Seven Percent Solution. She seems to like that name and answers to it pretty well. Although I can see why she was called Peppie, she's definitely the fastest dog we have here. thanks again for everything.

Peter

Peter was adopted by the Cavener family of Wisconin in October 2007. Peter was pretty lonely since his brother went home but not anymore! He now has three 2-legged playmates (who are very excited to have another dog at home)! Peter's family have owned Heelers before and MBR is sure it won't be long before Peter knows all sorts of cool tricks (and hopefully a few less pranks).

Phoebe n/k/a Major

Phoebe was adopted by the Flynn family of Iowa in January 2008. She will be training for SAR work with her new Dad. New brother Chief, a basset hound, is not very happy about having a new sister right now but he'll come around!

Update 4/08: Just wanted to take a minute and give you an update on Pheobe. We've changed her name to Major, I think she likes it. She's caught on to it really well. Chief is learning to accept her. He's still not too happy that he doesn't get all the attention anymore, but he loves to play with her. The first few weeks were a little rough, both of them wanted to be in charge so they fought a lot. Major finally relented and decided Chief can be the boss. They still have their moments especially if they're tired, but we think they're doing really well. We've had her to the vet a couple times. She had a bad ear infection which I think added to making her a little grumpy at first, but she's feeling much better now. The vet decided to watch her eyes for a little while before we do another surgery. When we first took her she thought for sure they would need another tuck, but she thought they looked a lot better the second time we had her in so she wanted to give them a little more time. She goes in for her shots in a couple weeks, so we'll have a better idea then how she's coming a long. She's learning to like going for rides and she LOVES meeting people. She's visited the fire station and the police station and just loves everybody. We're so happy to have her and we love her a lot!

Update 1/09: We adopted Major, (fka Phoebe) last January. It's hard to believe it's been a year. She'll celebrate her 2nd birthday tomorrow. She is such a lovable dog, she hasn't met a human yet that can resist her. We love her lots and are so thankful we got to be her forever family. It looks like there's been some changes at MBR over the last year. We'd love to do help out if we can. I wish we could be a foster family, but I don't think Chief (our Bassett) would tolerate another dog, there is only so much couch space to go around. If you need any help transporting dogs, updating the website, following up on applications or anything else we can do from a distance keep us in mind. I hope the organization can continue to help place dogs in need, it just so sad there are so many that need help.A recent picture is attached, she's obviously adjusted well to us!

Pickles was adopted by the Fierro family of California in March 2009.

One of pickles most enjoyable things to do for fun well of couse eating but also to get in chevy truck in the back seat and open sliding window just enough for his head and ear to flap in the wind all I have to ask is if he is ready to go by-by and there is no turning back.I think that california is just fine with picxkles now at first the sun seemed to be a little to bright for his eyes (cool photo of him at pool side with sun glasses on to come) but not a problem and we both say our prayes together every night before bed ----- and we always thank him for given you the strength and abilty to save Bloodhouds and put familys like mine that seamed so derailed and out of place back together  after the loss of my child Roscoe god bless you every day.ooh before I forget he is also training for a grief therapy dog he has gone to work with me and EVERBODY at work loves him and watches over him,Should I have to make a funeral arraingment I ask the family if they happen to be animail people and if so I tell them there is somebody else that may be able to help at this sad time in there life and in walks pickles man family after family has commented on how haveing him in the office to pet and hug made the worst day in there life a little better and he seams to be able to find the person that is haveing the most trouble with the loss and target in on them with love. Thanks again for hooking us up I will always be there if you should need anything from us dont you worry we both a big debt to you well its afternoon here and we our of to town for soda nad I hate to tell you this but he get a little piece of beef jearky for the ride home  talk at you later mike.

Pinky

Pinky was adopted by the Schmit family of Wisconsin in October 2004

Pinto Bean

Pinto Bean was adopted by the Boisvert family of Illinois in July 2004.

Poochie

Poochie was adopted by the Kowalski family of Illinois (Poochie Kowalski - how's that for a catchy name!) in April 2004. She has slid right in to her new family's home and hearts with her quiet grace and charm. Poochie has a new Black Lab sister to help her exercise and, if Smickers doesn't feel like playing, then Poochie's three new teenage siblings can help. She is also enjoying lots of walks with her new Mom.

Popeye

Popeye was adopted by the Drane family of Illinois in November 2002. This beautiful boy received his name because he is blind in one eye. He was also rescued from a puppymill auction. Popeye's handicap certainly doesn't slow him down any and it definately doesn't hinder his ability to love. As the Drane's only pet, he will receive all the love he deserves.

Update 4-04: Popeye is doing fabulous. He loves the dog park and he is healthy.

Update: As you can see from my pictures, I am quite spoiled. Bailey, my sibling, and I have our very own bedroom. Mom worked hard to make it very nice for us. Santa came early this year for us! He brought us new beds. As you can see from my picture, I enjoy it very much. My stocking is hanging full of goodies but Mom won't let me near it until Christmas :(

Pork Chop

Pork Chop was adopted by the Alexzondra/Augustyn family of Michigan in March 2005. His new family also rescues animals, so Pork Chop will have lots of new doggie & kittie playmates.

Presley n/k/a Matilda

Presley was adopted by the Nelson family of Missouri in December 2007. Besides a new family for Christmas, Presley also got new Redbone, dachsund & lab sisters!

Update 1/08: Presley (we call her Matilda) has adapted well to her new home and has been accepted by our other dogs.  ChiChi and Matilda play all day and most of the night.  It took about a week for Keaton (our Coonhound)  and Matilda to figure each other out but I've seen them playing in the yard.  Matilda sleeps in her bed (at the foot of our bed) during the night.  She has become part of our family activities and we all enjoy her.

Update 5/08: Matilda (Presley) is doing great.  We have moved into our new home in the country.  ChiChi and her are  best pals.  She is very affectionate and loves going for walks, playing with ChiChi and chasing her toys. Best pals!

1/09 update:  Matilda has lived with us for a year now and she is doing great.  Her daily routine is as follows;  1) Chase mice with ChiChi in the barn while we feed the horses 2) take a nap  3) Play with ChiChi and Keaton in the yard during the day  4) go for a walk on our 31 acres. She loves hunting for all of the field mice and other critters 5) Fetch her squeeky toy. She carries it everywhere in the house with her  6) Latter in the evening, she walks up to us to be petted then puts herself to bed.

Preston n/k/a Doolie

Preston was adopted by the Fields family of Illinois in March 2007. He joins a big brother Black Lab and a big brother Lab mix brother. The boys will have fun romping together and playing with Mom.

Update 10/07: I would LOVE to keep in contact with the other Blab owners about how the other kids are doing! In fact, I am constantly checking the website for updates about the other pups... some people never sent any updates at all! Doolie is quite a character, to say the least. He has several nicknames...Doodles, Doofas, etc. He races me up to the waterbed every night to get my spot first, right on the pillow, literally no room for me! Last time that I weighed and measured him was one month ago, and he was 72 lbs and about 23" at the shoulder, and I have never seen such a long tail! During the day, from about 8 to 5, he plays outside with 5 other dogs and 4 horses, then during the evening he either has friends over, or plays with his 2 brothers, and he goes to school once a week. He is now in advanced obedience, and will continue on with his education to get his canine good citizen certificate and will be a certified therapy dog.

Update 12/07: Doolie would like to pitch in this Holiday Season to help buy his friends some xtra treats! Merry Xmas! P.S. If he doesn't stop digging holes & eating all the dog beds at the neighbor's house, and chewing his own leashes, we'll be sending you all HIS treats too!

Update 1/08: Happy Birthday to everyone from Doolie Fields!!!!!!!!!!!!  He has survived his first year without doing too much damage! Thank you Sandi for picking him out for me.  I asked for the biggest mush in the group and I think I got him!  Two weeks ago a Collie growled at him in doggie school and I haven't been able to get him on that side of the room since,  and now he is afraid of any dog that is even that color!

Update 10/08: Just a quick question about Doolie (Preston). I was just curious because I've never had a Bloodhound before. Is "hugging" a normal bloodhound behavior?  Doolie is such a hugger. I've never had a dog like this before! When he sleeps he literally "wraps' his paws tight around me. And he loves to jump up and give everyone a big hug, wrapping his (large) paws around your shouders, pulling you close and giving you a big kiss on the lips. he's really something! Anyway, I was just wondering. He's doing great. 84lbs. tall and lean and happy happy happy.

Princess

Princess was adopted by the Sutton/Sprabery family of Laramie, WY, in October 2009.

Update 10/09: I have been meaning to write you since we got back home.  Its been slow to recover from two trips back to back.  Princess is doing very well.  When Luke met her, he fell in love and she can do no wrong.  Koda our Great Pyrenese got jealous for a day or two and now we’re good.  We had 6 inches of snow this morning and Princess was so funny.  She didn’t expect it and jumped right in and gave a look of surprise.  She is a sweet dog and we’re glad we came and got her.  Pictures will come.  We wish you well with all  you do and finish up that nursing degree.  Sandi was a jewel and we had no trouble finding her house.  We will keep in touch.  This weekend, I’m resting and Princess is right there with me.

Puggle Wuggle n/k/a Tonka

Puggle Wuggle was adopted by the Apolinski family of Illinois in August 2004.

Update: Wanted to send a picture of Tonka (renamed him from Mr. Puggle Wuggles), my pug that I got August 28th from the Midwest Bloodhound Rescue group. He is such a good boy and is doing very well. He had fun dressing up for Halloween and going trick or treating with my niece and nephew.

Purdy n/k/a Misty May

Purdy was adopted by the Kostal family of Illinois in August 2006. This spunky gal will be the very pampered & spoiled only doggie in her new home. However, she will have to share a little bit of her new peoples' time with her new Chinchilla cousins.

Update 8/07: Well, it has been a year since we adopted Purdy who is now Misty May. She is very happy and in good health. We love her and are glad you found her for us. Everyone just loves her when they come over. So, thank you again. We couldn't be happier.

Update: Just seeing how everything is going over there. How is Mosley doing? I see you have a new puppy Hotdog what happened to his front leg? Did Tahoe find a good home I really hope so? Things are good over here Misty May is healthy and happy now that the weather has cooled down. She is such a good dog they opened a new lake here in bolingbrook and she had so much fun. For any of your other Bloodhound owners Whalon Lake also has a dog park. Its funny that if we take her for a walk around the block she pulls 70% of the time but if we take her to a lake or park she is on her best behavior and pulls 10% of the time. I think I figured it out that she has to hurry to get to the next house with a dog cause she knows where they all live. The albino pitbull I was telling you about back aways is now kept in the house and is well taken care of so the phone calls to complain about the treatment  of him must have helped. ( They used to lock him in a 6x6 shed when the werenot home with no water or food and no windows for air) Well thats about it I hope everythings good with you.

Radar n/k/a The Colonel

Colonel was adopted by the Johnson family of Illinois in June 2004. This big, bold & beautiful boy will now be known as The Colonel, to go with his brother, Elvis. Elvis was adopted from MBR last summer and one bloodhound just wasn't enough.. They are hoping that The Colonel will help tire Elvis out some or at least provide a speed bump to slow Elvis down :)

Update 1/08: It's never a boring day around this house....I started storing their dog food in my bird room since Colonel knocked over the container in the kitchen one day and got into the food.  Well, he KNOWS where that food is kept now and is always bound and determined to try and sneak into the bird room.  It's not just his food, but the food that the birds drop on the floor and anything that my tortoise hasn't eaten.  Many times when we are ready for bed, Colonel is downstairs on the couch, so I just leave him down there and crack my bedroom door.  He always comes up to bed between 4:30 and 5.  Yesterday morning, he came up, right on time.  He then instantly filled the room with gas that was so thick, I could have cut it with a knife and stunk to high heaven!!! And, they were loud farts, not SBD dog farts! OMG! It was terrible!!!! Well, I found that he had broken into the bird room and eaten about 10 lbs or so of dog food.  I let him outside and he just layed down in the snow.  He threw up and then felt the need to stay outside to guard this delicious treat.  Needless to say, he did not have dinner last night! He still has gas and they are still loud ass farts, and they are very stinky! He's feeling much better now.  I now have a baby gate in front of the bird room as an extra barrier!

Radar II

Radar II was adopted by the Foster family of Illinois in March 2009.

Ramona

Ramona was adopted by the McNally family of Michigan in September 2005. Her new little twin sister, a mini doxie, will have chasing after Ramona, who will probably be chasing after her 2 new two-legged siblings!

Update: She is doing great and we love her! She is really making a great transition. I will send more pictures later and let you know how things are going.

Red n/k/a Harley

Red was adopted by the Suarez family of Illinois in May 2004. This jumbo-sized boy will benefit greatly from his new mom's expertise in dealing with jumbo dogs (she used to train and show Great Danes). When he is not learning how to be a proper young man, he will enjoy jogging with his new mom and playing with his new Cairn terrier brother.

Update: Harley is settling into his new life quite well. Sunday, we spent time at the dog park and Harley was in the water with all the retrievers and a lone Irish Wolfhound. On Monday, Harley had his first obedience class and he did amazingly well. Only resisted the healing exercise 2 times by laying down and howling about the control. Harley quickly adapted and his tail gave away that he was enjoying himself. Amazingly, our recalls and sit stays were "right on". Still working on the food agression and got great tips from my trainer. All in all, he is going well and adjusting.

Update 7/04: Harley's human witnessed nothing short of a miracle this weekend. After our usual walk at the dog park, Harley shared a drinking bowl with other dogs without growling or showing an attitude. Harley also approached the water bowl when in use by another dog and the two of them were drinking water side-by-side. I can now pet him while he's eating and even remove his feeding bowl (with food still in it). He has made tremendous strides with his food aggression. Harley loves Monday nights obedience classes and he demonstrates the attitude only matched by a golden retriever. Harley will be performing synchronized obedience in the Lake of the Hills parade on Saturday, September 4th.

Red II n/k/a Redzinger

Red was adopted by the Mounts family of Indiana in October 2006. This sweet, gentle boy will enjoy his new life as a very pampered pet, playing with his new 4-legged siblings (2 bloodhounds, 1 basset and 2 labs) and getting lots of love from his new mom & dad.

Reilly

Reilly was adopted by the Troller family of Ohio in April 2006. She has 2 new four-legged sisters and 2 new two-legged brothers. Reilly and the youngest boy buddied up right off the bat, which is a good thing since she will be "his" dog.

Riley

|

Riley was adopted by the Mr. Kibble of Illinois in November 2003. This spunky,fast-growing girl will have all the love and attention of her new owner.

Rocky

Rocky was adopted by the Benjamin family of Illinois in September 2004. Rocky has been through a lot in his life. He was rescued from a life of squalor by MBR, who was impressed from the get-go by his wonderful disposition. Then Rocky was adopted to a loving family who was forced to return him 2 years later due to a family member's illness. So, then Rocky got to lay around and be loved on by his foster home for awhile. Now, he is in his last home where he can relax and be totally spoiled.

Update 10/09: Just to let you know Rocky just had his 11th birthday and he is doing fine….spoiled rotten and very much the center of our life. When time permits, I would like to write a story about the last 5 years with this wonderful and highly intelligent “critter.

Rolo

Rolo was adopted by the Mixer family of Illinois in August 2004. This very active coonhound/mastiff puppy will enjoy playing with the family's Great Dane as he grows. Rolo is the Mixer's wedding present to each other. MBR wishes Rolo and Mixers many happy years together as a family!!!

Roman

Roman was adopted by the Mellor family of Missouri in March 2004.

Rooter

Rooter has a wonderful new home in Central Indiana with Dawn and Chad in July 2005 .  After the long ride home Rooter had managed to burry his new stash of bones in the backyard and refused to share them with his new brother Charlie; a beautiful golden retriever. Dawn and Chad are slowly teaching Rooter and Charlie to share and they were last reported frolicking in the back yard.

Rosalie n/k/a Abilene

Rosalie was adopted by the McBride family of Florida in February 2003. When Rosalie was picked up at the shelter, she weighed a measly 45 lbs., was heartworm positive and had fleas & tapeworms. True to the bloodhound nature, she came through it all with flying colors and enjoying life. Her new home saw her picture on the internet and it was love at first site. She will be the pampered only dog and will be better traveled than most people as her new family travels around the country for business.

Update 10-03: Abilene is doing very well. She is getting really good in obedience class. She has some dog aggression issues but is working through it. She is very people-oriented.

Roscoe

Roscoe was adopted by the Mitchell family of Michigan in August 2002.

Roscoe III

Roscoe has been adopted by Nutting Family of Wisconsin in April 2004. Forrest recently lost his best friend, a beautiful German Shepherd. While nothing can make up for this loss, Roscoe is the perfect match for this family as Roscoe is one of those special creatures that you bond with instantly. He’s your typical big, soft, gentle bloodhound.

Rosey

Rosey was adopted by the Douglas family of Illinois in April 2002. She joins 2 basset hound brothers and lots of 2-legged "honorary" cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.and some official 2-legged grandkids to play with. The whole group had quite an adventure coming out to visit with MBR and it quickly became clear that Rosey was the gal for them. Even the bassets seemed to know this!

Update: Rosey is doing fine and lives well with me and the two basset hounds. Rosey has found out (just before winter and the freeze of ground) how to dig. In spring, I will probably bury invisible fence and will also have concrete poured at the fence line to discourage her digging. She has all the characteristics of a hound and loves to wander if allowed to. She is kept on leash when outside of the yard. She is very much "food oriented". Most disputes with the bassets are over food. She is counter top high and most items must be kept above the counter. Enclosed is a picture of Rosey and 4 convicts she is "trailing" from the Labor Day Parade.

Rosie II

Rosie II was adopted by the Miller family of Pennsylvania in July 2003. She joins big sister Ellie Mae (another bloodhound).

Update: Ellie & Rosie are getting along fine.We haven't had any incidents other than Miss Ellie being greedy with her toys, but Rosie takes care of that when they go outside.Rosie gets to wanting to play and she'll just knock Ellie on her but.The only problem that I'm having is getting Rosie to go in her crate at night once she's in she's fine it's the getting her in that's a feat but we're working on it. Rosie had a visit with the Vet on Friday she's weighing 75 lbs and is in good health except for the yeast infection she got a prescription for that and is doing well taking it.They love going for their walks in the evening. Last night we had traffic stopped on the street cause the ladies in the car wanted to admire the girls and make a fuss over them.Of course the girls weren't going to argue over the fussing. They Love it. I often say it's all about the petting that they have a recomended daily allowance of strokes they have to get. Today we're going to the Lake with Tracey and her dogs should be quite an adventure. Well I better get going I need to drop some film off Yeah I finally caught Rosie in some pictures where she's looking at me Now to get the two to sit together long enough for a picture of them. Rosie has this way of just stealing peoples hearts she's so loving I get home from work and the girls both are looking out the window waiting for me and as soon as I get in the house and sit down there they are giving me kisses I don't dare get up Well I can't really they have me pinned so I sit there and take my licks. And if anyone comes for a visit they are welcomed with kisses too.I'll keep in touch and let you know how things are going with the Mayblossoms and their adventures.

Rowdy

Rowdy was adopted by the Indiana Department of Corrections - Westville Facility in June 2005. He joins big sister, Lady (previously adopted from MBR). Lady has been doing tremendous work learning to mantrail so Rowdy has some pretty big paws to fill!

Ruby

Ruby was adopted by the Bannerman family of Illinois in August 2001. She was one of 12 puppies turned in to SEBR by a family who found out just how hard it is to raise puppies. Thanks to the cooperation of SEBR, Ruby now enjoys playing with really big brother Moose (Great Dane) and big brother Cosmo (Weineramer). One of Ruby's favorite pasttimes is going to the barn with her new Mom to visit their horse and running along while Mom rides.

Ruby II

Ruby was adopted by the Yunkers family of Wisconsin in December 2002.

Ruby III

Ruby III has been adopted by a real dog loving family in October 2003. She’s going to be living in the very small town in Ohio with her new mom and dad, the Hamm's. Ruby was last seen leaving her foster home riding in the backseat being hugged by her new two year old niece. Ruby just loves kids.

Update 2/04: Ruby III is doing great.

Ruddaford n/k/a Reilly

Ruddaford was adopted by the Daniels family of North Dakota in February 2002. This rambunctious 1 yr. old will have a lot of fun playing with his new brother Bernie (yellow lab) and his new two-legged siblings. After being kept outdoors previously, he is quickly learning the joys of indoor life. Now, if the two-leggers would just stop making him get off counters and out of the garbage, life would be really great!

Update: Reilly is the most wonderful dog I have ever lived with! Slobber and all. He gave us a little scare when he broke through the back fence and wandered the town until the wee hours of the morning. I had the deputies searching and everything! He made his way home and howled outside my bedroom when he was ready to come back inside. He slept for 16 hours straight and hasn't left my side much since! He has turned into a model "indoor" dog as well!Amazing what a little adventure will do for you! The coat is blowing as we speak and he just loves to be brushed. I'm confident I could have made at least half a dozen Reilly sweaters with the excess hair! And still it comes! I don't think I could imagine life without him! The Daniels Family
